You won’t find a core belief of life after death in the Hebrew Bible. The concept came into being around 2,000 years ago but most contemporary Jews admit that they don’t know. Many are agnostic about god and a few are even atheists and merely culturally Jewish.

So sad to see these people confusing mythology with literal reality. I love the stories about Dionysus. How after he was torn to pieces by the Titans, Athena saved his heart and gave it to Zeus who gave it to Semele who after eating it gave birth to Dionysus a second time. Wonderful, meaningful story. But not literal reality.

What is meaningful? What is reality? You just provided me the meaningful linkage to the story of the Egyptian God Osiris and his being murdered, cut into pieces and then resurrected by being stitched back together by his sister. That is everything but his penis which had to be replaced with a golden dildo. Such stories come from a state of mystical consciousness practiced by Shaman who experience the act of being split and fragmented into various separate parts. I am suspecting a self induced epileptic seizure within a very small portion of the brain where the spatial locations of the Shaman's body parts are mapped out.

I *do* think that there will be a resurrection. I have believed this since around 2010 -- since I was about 30, 35 years old. Before, I believed in reincarnation. One difference between myself and the Closer to Truth guy, though, is that -- I think that we will be very much like we are, today: not deified. Rather, that deification will be "the job" that will occupy us for eternity. I expect that, when we resurrect, all of the problems that we have today, will still be there. For example, if a man is estranged from his son, that estrangement will still be there, when he and his son resurrect. Some problems will not be with us -- the climate crisis, for instance, won't be there, because it'll be a new environment. But people will still have difficulties. I think that broken bones would be restored and such, and who knows, maybe ADHD will disappear as well. But the problems that are in our hearts and minds, I suspect that they will still exist. I think that there will be wisdom aplenty floating around, so that people can reconnect and work through things, come to understandings about what happened in our past, but that they will be things that we go through the movements of understanding, rather than just "ta-dah!" -- "there are no problems!" I don't think so.

I think this thing we call soul is the key. I think this thing we call soul preceded our human birth and simply continues past our human demise. It’s our souls that endlessly continue. It is written we are the children of God. Perhaps being children of God we are like God. Yet through a mystery we entered a state of blindness, a state of not understanding. Perhaps this causation of our souls manifestations as blind infants intended to grow throughout our lives is meant to, through , wining experiences teach us to abandon ego and self importance

This interesting topic of resurrection pulls me back to my theory of ""true life"". Once it rained on earth, true immortal life, that we should imagine as little balls (particles) in all kind of colors, and they built bodies with whatever they found. That explains also the dna ladder that is similar to other primates but, just one different colored ball makes the difference. If we feel that there's an afterlife, it's because of true life in us that survives and builds a new body with whatever it finds, with the conditions of today and might only be enough to become some sort of worm or butterfly, maybe a bug too. There should be my opinion experiments to detect continuing life after death, under different conditions to maybe locate true life by its work. We are the vehicle's of true life, a kind of biological robots, that because of the materials we're made of, it was possible to evolve in this way adding consciousness, awareness and the whole package that makes us unique in the species world. That's my understanding of resurrection.

Amazingly, Arthur Hyman, a revered Jewish historical scholar at Yeshiva University, presents here a view of human resurrection and afterlife that is identical to the prototypical Christian view, although Dr. Kuhn does not mention that in his narration. The only missing ingredient is the New Testament and, of course, Jesus of Nazareth (big difference to be sure). Yet many if not most non-orthodox Jewish people today seem not to believe in either the resurrection or the afterlife. So, what’s the disconnect between this majority and revered Jewish scholars like Arthur Hyman?

Loved this episode. However (as a thinker and a believer) I was disappointed that neither RLK or any of the interviewed persons touched upon autophagy, or methylation. As a Pastor, I was stunned that none of these higher learned religious icons even suggested what we know from Scripture; that now life is in the blood, but then that life is in the Spirit. To me, it is most interesting how the aforementioned all coalesce and is quantified by Eschatological underpinnings....

@@andrebrown8969 Sorry. I hope you don't think me rude. Life keeps us busy, I'm sure you will agree. But in answer to your question I would have to say, in a word, "Biases". Why some people find answers and why some people cannot. That's number 1. At last count, in my estimation, there are some 52 cognitive biases in our human psyche. As that you are a fan of Closer to Truth, I know you are familiar with the term "Causation". Due to the events and situations in each of our lives we all develop a plethora of cognitive biases by and through which we govern our lives. Yes- even scientists view their chosen fields through the lenses of their own particular brand/ brands of biases. Then there is the issue of political affiliation and worldviews, which not surprisingly, inhibits or promotes conclusions / influence or askew our judgments. Lastly, but perhaps most importantly, there is the question of our spirituality and/or our baseline of conservative or liberal nature. As a Christian, and a Pastor, who once being a despotic drug addicted Atheist, I came to faith by asking much the same questions RLK asks. I am continually shocked and surprised to find that Christianity answers almost every question, and for the questions that have no answers, faith is a compass that always help me solace. Of course we have to look at, not only the questions, but also to the inquisitive and at how many (and which) cognitive biases we each may have. First and foremost, our biases must be addressed and remedied. That much I know for sure,...

Here is a thought experiment. If, and when, scientists are able to download the human brain into a computer such that all of your thoughts and memories are stored onto a hard drive, which sounds fantastic, [there are some that are working on this as a workable proposition for immortality], where would ‘You’ exist. If your brain died after wards would ‘You’ still exist on the hard drive? Would ‘You’ be in two places at once? No I don’t think so. There is a conscious you, a soul if you like, that is independent of the physical brain. As far as the resurrection goes, no-one can be certain either way. There is no scientific evidence for a resurrection, but conversely if you go on to say it is nonsense then you must provide evidence for your belief.

First Name Surname Jesus has left perfect instructions for us to follow. “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” ‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭3:16-17‬ ‭ESV‬‬ We are NOT perfect. We do make mistakes because we are human. Man has not won because it’s not by our own. We rely on Jesus. He sacrificed His life because we cannot make it to Heaven by ourselves. We are saved by grace through faith. “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,” ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2:8‬ ‭ESV‬‬ We can strive to be holy like Jesus by following God’s word. We will never be perfect until we reach Heaven.

Not sure I agree with Timothy O'Connor at 19:52. If in resurrection, God recreates you from particles in identical quantum states to the earthly you at time T, your resurrected body, there would be no physical test you can do to identify the difference. For materialists, that would be a complete resurrection. For others who believe there is some additional "core spiritual essence" that is maintained by God, putting that together with your new body would make the resurrected you - your core spiritual essence in a new identical physical body. Note that Christians believe the resurrected body is different to our current physical bodies - somehow an upgraded "deluxe" version. If you die with crippling arthritis or dementia, you don't get these carried over into your resurrected life.

Whitehead's field theory proposes that what constitutes the metaphysics of everyday life -- our relationships, our affinities, our understanding -- is greater than the reality that science calls matter. Why don't we believe that? Because we only know the world from the measurements of instruments, whether those instruments are our sense organs or a microscope or a set of critical theories. Those instruments privilege a matter-oriented view of reality. If we were ever to resolve this instrumental deficit, we might understand the resurrected body as a post-physical experience -- perhaps "body" becomes more substantial when its physical and metaphysical identifications are disambiguated, such as at the moment of death.

Includes resurrection of humanity from the death of the sinful nature to life in the divine nature, which occurs right away with the resurrection of Jesus. The body of Jesus' divine nature is given to humanity, with the blood of Jesus' forgiveness circulating through the body of Jesus' divine nature. The human person becomes part of the body and blood of Jesus' divine nature. Sin separated human person from the divine nature, leading to death; Jesus' divine nature removes sin from the human person, resulting in life. Not know enough about second resurrection.

Jesus was resurrected in the same body, but different, in some sense? Why didn't the apostles recognized him then? And, If Jesus was resurrected in the same body, how did he get into the house, since all the doors where locked? The apostles thought it was an apparition...Maybe Jesus quantum teleported, like the angels used to do in the old days?

I can't be resurrected because i was born from my mother and my father. Unlike Jesus, who was born from himself and a simple peasant girl, faithful to her husband. I could understand how Jesus raised himself from death, there are medical ways he could do that, also voodoo drug is a true phenomena, but what happened after is beyond my comprehension. He walked our from his grave, went for a beer, so to speak, than disappeared into a thin air. How could human body just vanish, many people came back from death or their body was never found, but Jesus went to Heaven and world was governed by God once again, returning from a decades long leave. And it wasn't only Jesus who did that, Buddha has also vanished and didn't came back as a cockroach or a broccoli. Who is next, looks like God want to do a bulk resurrection, re-animating everybody who ever died at once. Heaven must feel like lonely place at present, why would God create another world for us, he must know by now how new Heaven will end, same as all previous God's futile attempts. There must be a design flaw in all his genesis, he shouldn't create live and humans according to his image and continue to talk to himself alone.

We know that God screwed up his original creation so badly that first, a flood was needed to cleanse the world of the rot of humanity, and second that what followed was so effed up that he could only fix his mistakes by killing his own son so that his blood would cleanse humanity. After these two screwups, what confidence could one have that he hasn't also screwed up heaven. Track record certainly is not encouraging.

God did not mess up His original creation. The Bible says that God made it and it was “good.” God did not mess up creation.. God made it the right way but if He wouldn’t let everyone have free will, it wouldn’t be loving. God’s choice was to let everyone have a choice.. on whether or not they would live for Him or not. God let Adam and Eve have a choice of whether or not they would disobey and eat from the forbidden tree. God used the flood to kill all those who did evil and disobeyed God. He allowed Noah, his wife, and their three sons and their wives to escape because they were right with God. God sent His son to die for us! God did not kill his son, yet He allowed Him to give up His life. “And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭1:31‬ ‭ESV‬‬ “For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father.”” ‭‭John‬ ‭10:17-18‬ ‭ESV‬‬

ann baker God exists because He is God. God exists but not just because we need help. He helps us and wants us to ask Him for help. He is not existing because we need help. “All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.” ‭‭John‬ ‭1:3‬ ‭ESV‬‬ Yes, we have to have Him to live.
