You cant argue a god into existence either. It obviously gives believers meaning that we were specially designed by a God. We have evolved. God is man made and it should be so clear to people. Evolution is a fact and theres no way out of it. What is the demonstrable physical evidence for a gods existence? It all seems to be so cryptic.

    If I accused God of Murder and the district attorney filed the charge based on the hearsay evidence, "the bible" As no one would show, and the trial went forth in absentia, HE would be overwhelmingly acquitted based on the inability of anyone to actually place him at the scene or any other circumstantial or physical evidence. Yet as Christians, your guidebook constantly accuses him of this and many other crimes. Maybe you need to use Charles Manson as your figurehead, he has stated he is indeed a deity and proof of his crimes has been given... Then the term Christian can finally be changed to "Charlatans"

Actual experts (i.e. not creationists) have already done the refuting.

    I don't really see the point in writing "god" with a capital "g". Why would I recognize the word "god" as something that has to be emphasized. It's just a word that has no value. Maybe it's nitpicking but I think when we type God, we sort of acknowledge his importance. God isn't even a name. And people are used to capitalizing certain words in midsentece to which they asign importance to. Well, I won't any longer. The word god is the same as the word spoon. And we all know ... there is no spoon.

I may capitalize Nanofuture87, but I don't capitalize "person" or "commenter" when referring to a specific person or commenter (in this case, you). We only use it when referring to monotheistic gods, because it would be synonymous with its name, if you were an adherent of that faith. If there were a descriptor that only applied to one thing, we would capitalize it similarly. The problem with this is, why would we bother with the descriptor if we already have a name for it?

    Like Tracie said, it depends on the claim. Well, for example, if you are talking about the god that is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent; and who is the one supreme god, then that god has a lot of proving to do. He or she must manifest in a physical form, and must cause all religions in the world (Buddhists, Taoists, Shamans, Muslims, Christians, Bahai, Hindu) to all become aligned to one world religion. He or she must provide a complete, comprehensive, concise and coherent manuscript in all languages of the world. There must be repeatable and observable evidence of that being. For example, every time that someone "prays" as that manuscript specifies, then the 'prayer" must be fulfilled, no matter how fantastic.

    What asked, "What would it take?" I generally respond with 1. Nothing humans have tried so far, so chances are nothing you can say or do will do so as I've read argumentation from those likely more familiar with this subject than you a layman. 2. I don't know what god will do or say to me. Only he knows. He's not doing so for now. Apparently, there's nothing I can do to make him do so as I have asked him to do so on quite a few occasions. He's not answered that prayer unless that answer is "No". If he's not doing anything to convince me then maybe he doesn't want me to know (at the least for now) 3. Why are you trying to do what seems to be against his will? 4. Pray to your god for me. That he will reveal himself to me in a way which would convince me. Thanks for playing. Next!

    The "something from nothing" argument is nonsensical to me. Nothing can come from nothing. If there was ever nothing in the universe, there would still be nothing. The problem is that there is no such thing as nothing. The universe is filled with energy and energy cannot be destroyed, it can only change forms. Einstein proved that mass and light are simply different manifestations of energy. Even empty space ( devoid of matter) still has an energy value and matter and anti - matter particles popping in and out of existence. Perhaps the creation of universes is just natural stages of the transformation of the energy within space?

  • @thomasbriggs4718

    @thomasbriggs4718

    +Grateful Apostate Actually if you study very recent discoveries in physics, there is growing evidence that empty space is quantum mechanically unstable. This can result in an inflationary universe, or a multiplicity of inflationary universes, of which ours is one. One of the principle theorists exploring this is Lawrence Krauss, who travels the world lecturing on this topic. The idea that nothing can come from nothing is a restatement of Aristotle's causality arguments. Quantum mechanics has shown that this is not the case. Uncaused quantum mechanical events happen all the time. Particles come into and out of existence continuously, with no cause. Moreover it has been demonstrated that there is no 'hidden' cause for this. It is a property of quantum mechanics, the deepest physics we know.

That's why I don't think that any evidence will convince me that a god exists, because the idea of a god seems so ludicrous, so unbelievable and alien to me, that it is the least sensible explanation possible. No matter what the scenario is, every other explanation (Even no explanation!) makes far more sense than the existence or intervention of a god.

    Understand this: assuming all is caused and bound by the laws of the universe, there is no "chance" in the sense that something may or may not happen. Chance under this context is only meaningful in describing how reality is understood by a consciousness instead of reality itself. For example, when the weatherman says "There is a chance that it might rain tomorrow", what he is really saying is "I don't know for sure that will or will not rain tomorrow, but I cannot definitely say it won't."

    I didn't say the book enslaves you, I said you enslave yourself. As living beings we learn from the experiences of life. When fire burns us, we learn not to stick our hands in it. The bible however gives alternate explanations to life's lessons, warping the perceptions of believers from reality. Instead of having a mind free to learn from life, you accept ideas from the bible/holy men that corrupts the normal process of learning. Constraining your thoughts enslaves you to another's will.

Just that the absence of any existence, absence of controlling rules, forces, etc., implies the freedom for anything to happen, for any rules, conditions, etc. to exist. If you want to say (in your definition of nothing) there are no possibilities allowed either, I'd say it's a contradiction in terms, since possibilities are simply counterfactual states of affairs that will always 'exist'.

Therefore, the universe has a cause. this cause must be an uncaused, changeless, timeless, and immaterial being which created the universe. It must be uncaused because we've seen that there cannot be an infinite regress of causes. It must be timeless and therefore changeless-at least without the universe-because it created time.Because it also created space, it must transcend space as well and therefore be immaterial

And you can calculate the probability of that arrangement of water molecules, which is what statistical thermodynamics talks of. In simple terms, you have a grid, that is 3 by 3 squares, totalling 9 squares. The probability of randomly placing a single object in the first cube on the top left corner, is 1 in 9. Thats what i mean by probability of a water molecule within a system.

    Stating infinite regression cannot be doesn't legitimize contradicting premises. Also, if you assume a being can be uncaused, changless, timeless, and immaterial in order to resolve the infinite regression, there is no reason why you cannot assume the same for what is seemingly caused, changing, and material. In short, it is self-deconstructing.
