God is I Am & Playing with Words | Uber - Florida | Atheist Experience 21.14

The Atheist Experience 21.14 for May 9, 2017 with Matt Dillahunty and Tracie Harris.
Call the show on Sundays 4:00-6:00pm CDT: 1-512-686-0279
We welcome your comments on the open blog thread for this show.
► freethoughtblogs.com/axp/
KZread comments are at present disabled in our channel, to the displeasure of some. However, each video has a prominent link to the associated open thread that appears on our blog. In the past we've tried opening up the channel to comments, but we found that a very high number of episodes wound up being flooded with a combination of spam, long winded apologists, and various obscene or misogynistic comments directed at various hosts by people with an axe to grind. This seems to be the nature of KZread comment sections, in our experience.
We do moderate the blog, the same way that we moderate chat during the show, as well as comments on our Facebook group. For comment sections that are "officially" associated with our show (and, to a much lesser extent, channels that may give the unintended appearance of being official), we prefer not to play host to straight up ad hominem attacks and bigotry. As a general policy we do not block commenters simply on the basis of disagreement with our point of view. However, we do prefer discussion environments that don't actively chase off more reasonable contributors.

WHAT IS THE ATHEIST EXPERIENCE?
The Atheist Experience is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared at a non-atheist audience. The Atheist Experience is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.
The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop and support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing and friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of state-church separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists and to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

When people like Goober say “I was atheist for a while” I take it to mean they “tried it on” without really examining the reasons behind it, or developing their own take on it, and then defaulted back to some version of whatever magic was most prevalent in the culture they were raised in.

Nope , it's not all over. To just disregard someones experience because they were on shrooms is dismissive. I think shrooms open up your 3rd eye allowing you to see the true nature of this world. I saw an ocean suspended in the sky. Consistent with ancient Hebrew cosmology. "The Ocean of Heaven". Every ancient culture depicted the earth as flat. A flat stationary plane with a firmament above. I've seen this with my own two eyes. The sun and moon are local luminaries which rotate around and above the earth. Search- Flat earth model. Astronots pretend to go to space. They cannot go to space. It's a closed system. They do backflips on harnesses. "Space walks" in underwater studios wearing deep dive suits with a cgi globe on a green screen. Iss livestream looks real to you? If so, you have serious issues.

That's funny you mention him. There's a video of Peterson talking about an experiment done at Johns Hopkins where researchers gave different groups of cancer patients different doses of shrooms. The findings are very interesting, but the most impressive thing was that the people given shrooms who had what they called a "profound spiritual experience" had far less anxiety about dying than those who didn't. Jordan Peterson even brought up this study during a debate with Matt Dillahunty, as though it were some kind of valid evidence for god. The kinds of experiences people have, on drugs or otherwise, are very much influenced by their previously held beliefs about the universe.

Yeah, for someone who supposedly used to be an atheist because there's no good reason to believe in something which can't be proven, he should be throwing away his god belief.

I've started watching these videos and so many of these conversations are either circular or just break down into people not being able to clearly articulate what they actually believe in (probably because they don't actually know). It's insightful and frustrating to see people literally unravel as they have these conversations yet are not aware of the unravelling process - it's quite astonishing.

If you can't or won't answer a yes/no question with either of those answers and have to try go into some long diatribe ( though an "I don't know" would also be valid to a yes/no ) then I suspect your ego already knows where the question is going and is trying to protect you from having to admit you are wrong …….. Like Matt says sometimes, if there was a winning argument that proved this stuff true it would already have been trotted out ( and no doubt atheists , and other faiths , unless in denial , would have to accept what is true )

s1sters118 absolutely right with your comment - I do believe that if you can’t answer a direct question, then you have already lost the argument! This is why religious people never win these debates - all the tap-dancing they do just proves that they know deep-down that they have no legit reasons to believe, but they don’t want to admit that as it will show that they have wasted so much time on complete nonsense

I also believe the Earth is round, or at least spherical shaped, and spins on it's axis. Not including this sentence I've used 42 words. Pause.... I got nothing, no God, no experiences, no logic. I have to admit, I did let two Jehovah's Witnesses into my house once and let them go through their whole spiel because one of them was smoking hot. The other lady was only marginally attractive but pleasant enough and I wanted to fantasize about myself nailing the two of them as long as possible. And although it was unlikely to happen , I hoped that given enough time I could convince one of them to go out with me on a grown-up naked and sweaty date. The hotter of the two asked if she could come back sometime and speak with me again. I'm thinking hells yeah, I'm in! 4 days later, she knocks on my door and introduces me to her husband who will be guiding us in our Bible study this evening! This 5 o clock Shadow looking dude who was probably 20 years older than her and hit every branch falling out of the ugly tree. Total bait and switch! I don't let them in the house anymore. Thinking I was going to get anywhere with a Jehovah's Witness chick, who tend to be long odds anyway when it comes to shaking the bad if you're not married to her, was pure delusion on the level of believing in their God. But she sure was nice to gaze upon for the short time we did have! I can only hope someday she finds her way out of that cult and into the arms of a man who will give her the oral sex she deserves. A Boy Can Dream.
