"Mount Sinai proves..." | Stephan - New York | Atheist Experience

Part 3/3 of a long call with Stephan from New York. In this clip Stephan tries to prove Creationism by bringing up Mount Sinai, Noah's Ark, the Ark of the Covenant, and (again) polonium halos.
This is an edited clip from The Atheist Experience #661 of June 13, 2010, with Matt Dillahunty and Jeff Dee (topic: Viewer Calls / Islam's Tender Nerves). This entire episode can be watched on Blip.tv and Ustream.tv:

George Forsyth And...... might I add, that is why atheists, secularists, humanists, and critical thinkers need to speak out against religion and point out what is wrong with it. It is not harmless. As you pointed out, people like this vote, based on their worldview, thinking that a 2,000 year old book dictates our morals and how we should live our lives. Scary stuff.

+Buck Rogers I don't know about 99%, but I do agree that the US evangelicals are batshit insane human beings.... VERY much so. Yes, the pope is more grounded than the average bible thumping evangelical who is so deluded that he actually thinks the earth is 6000 years old (and its not only the US and also not only christian evangelicals but other sects as well.... Jehova Witless for example). The problem with the catholic leadership is not batshit craziness..... it is batshit dogma that leads them to promote very destructive things like resisting condoms in poor countries who cant even feed the current population and also the deliberate protection of pedophile priests and the coverup of their crimes. And don't even get me started on the hoarding of wealth that goes on within the church. To me the pope is like Don Corleone..... a smart and interesting guy, but one who is .... to be kind .... slightly morally compromised.

No, Micheal is spot on. Most atheists are actually former believers and needed to learn critical thinking/questioning their indoctrinated beliefs until they were able to leave religion. So yeah, there are many reasoned Christians and Muslims finding themselves in the shoes of these callers, starting to ask their first critical and introspective questions.

@@sophonax661 Religion is nt about God and truth, its about morality. I DO NOT believe, but I think the Christians, Sikhs, all religions are essential moral guides. the problem is the beliefs are rooted in history and mythology. the myths are invented and the reason for the beliefs is false. I think there are lessons about morality within religion. being critical about the false validation of the myths ignores the aspect of religion that would guide people in the past, and would actually have validity and intelligence.

What the hosts were putting forward is fine generally speaking. That the mind of man doing philosophy and science seemingly autonomously, is apparently a final standard by which we determine whether a proposition is true or not. And that we should be skeptical about any assertions which have not yet been determined that way. Here's the problem. While that as I said, is fine generally, its a fundamentally flawed view. Because when we start discussing "first principles" which are presupposed NECESSARILY , the empiricist's or the skeptic's position there, crashes and burns philosophically. "First principles" do not come under the purview of empirical endeavors, but are rather, presupposed by those endeavors. And the big problem for atheists is, that God BY DEFINITION is not only in that category of principles, God is definitionally primary there. So in that sense, everybody starts with the God model of "first principles" whether they think about it much or not. In the since that everybody believes that the transcendentally necessary preconditions, which is what the principles pertain to, are true. God would be the very first principle among all the other ones.

@@ChessArmyCommander Complete gobbledegook from beginning to end. All the philosophical wankery in the world can't get past the fact that there's no evidence for the supernatural in any way, shape or form, nor even the slightest hint of a sign that the supernatural is possible or necessary. Until the time when we find evidence for the supernatural theres no reason to believe in it. By all means, go get an education in whatever scientific field you think will help you find said evidence, and spend your entire career seeking it, but until you've found it I'd appreciate if you shut the hell up about how the empiricist's position crashes and burns. Empiricism is the root of all human achievement, while religion is the anchor dragging along the the ocean floor, slowing us down as a species.

There are right. If angels started appearing to everyone, as in walking through walls and such, and telling everyone God is real and it was time to put an end to this debate, and were willing to reveal certain things to us and have a conversation with us, then most everyone would accept it and it would be taught in classes. But at this point there is nothing you can present.
