What is the Charles Bargue Drawing Course? (Fundamentals of Drawing)
From the Fundamentals of Drawing: Module 1, Section 3 Introduction (Simple Bargue Plates)
The Fundamentals of Drawing (coming soon) is designed to give anybody, even those who have never picked up a pencil before, a comprehensive education in the traditional arts, developing all the skills they will need in order to be successful in their artistic career. The Fundamentals of Drawing is broken down into 4 modules, proportion, shapes, edges & values and finally composition, it is important each area is studied in depth in order for the student to gain a complete understanding of their craft.
Aswell as in depth introductions to each module the students will receive extensive introductions to each section. Section 3 of Module 1 focuses on the Charles Bargue and Leon Gerome Drawing course, in this introduction you will learn about the history of the Bargue drawing course along with examples from other courses of the era, and why this Course has stood the test of time and the others haven't.

Thank you so much for this video! I have been teaching Bargue at the Wethersfield Academy in Connecticut, USA since 2019 for both youth and adult and I can testify on how good of a curriculum this is for learning how to draw. I wrote a simplify version of Bargue drawing for children and I have had amazing responses from children as young as 9 years old. I hope this curriculum will be revived in many academies and ateliers around the world. It is "learning to see" as some artists describe it!

Yes it is truly an amazing learning resource, but one that is often misunderstood as a simple mindless coping exercise. Delve a little deeper and there is a wealth of information and knowledge.
