Drawing hands with the Charles Bargue plates (lesson #21- Fundamentals Of Drawing)

Section 3 of the Fundamentals Of Drawing looks at the the simple stages of the Charles Bargue and Jean-Léon Gérôme drawing course. In lesson #21 students will learn to draw the hand in perspective, understanding how to simplify the complex organic form of the hand into easily manageable forms.
During the lesson students will see how the Bargue course gives the student a framework to successfully draw hands using other example plates.

Faber-Castell Columbus 2103 graphite pencil HB

    It's fascinating to watch your visual abstraction method in action. Seeing the subtly of the form emerge from a series of straight lines always amazes me. My biggest mistake is rushing too much and not doing enough checking. This is a great tutorial encapsulating the method. Thanks Chris 👍

    Hi Robert, arguably the biggest mistake students make is rushing to get to the end, forgetting it is everything in the middle which is the most important part! Whilst the method of enveloping isnt always easy, it does force you to think through every step. Happy drawing!
