Awesome vid Gem. Thanks for this information. I was planning on sending a couple of my personal favorite comics in my collection for grading and I’ll look this up for sure. Stay Minty
Thanks Gem mint for keeping us knowledgeable and giving us cool content... on a side note you have the most awesome collection of T shirts I've ever seen

He died on the cross to save us for our sins and rose from the grave defeating death and Hell. You must put your faith in him only. He is the only way to Heaven. Repent and trust in Jesus. You are one of the best comic/ statue guy on KZread!! I’ve been watching for years and you never disappoint!! My wife blames you for my comic collecting again! Nah!! Just kidding! Keep up the great work!!

Wow, i didn’t even know about this man, great vid as usual!
Just started watching your vids. Awesome stuff. Hope you make that video with your friend. Can’t wait
Thank you so much for this video and the last! II have been waiting to get some information on this stuff so that I can see if I should pull the trigger on sending some comics to get pressed and then to cgc and now I feel more confident about doing that! I also have a copy of the punishers 1st appearance That I definitely want to send out
That’s crazy to see how much pressing really improves a comic, that’s a night and day kind of difference. If I ever send books to get graded I think I would definitely consider getting it pressed before sending it out. Awesome video Gem 💎😁
I have been pressing my own with great results!
Doing a show with Mike sounds like a good idea
Definitely gonna check him out! Thanks 🙏🏽 Gem! 💎
Appreciate the info on hero restoration been looking for sum 1 that presses comics and will get them CGC graded

Thanks for this video, interesting and much appreciated !
Enjoy your videos. You’re a straight up guy. Thanks!
Cool info, thanks Gem.
I wouldn't mind a video that goes in-depth on how comics are graded with all of the extra info. I never knew about pressing and how it's seen by collectors, this certainly was a great video!
Hey Gem A live show would be totally awesome. I look forward to it. Keep up the great work!
Great vid! Very informative!
Thank you for all this comic book 101. I have a 9 year old son so I’m learning what I can so we have something to keep us connected as he gets older.

How is the collecting with your son a year later? My step daughter and I collect together and she loves it so much. She has a few full run series herself and alot of mini series runs and singles that she loves. We started off buying a few at a time. then bought boxes we came across and just kept collecting and sorting and reading. we have several valuable ones now even some signed ones by the artists and we have a total of over 600 comics. Small collection to some but pretty darn big to us! Has been a great bonding thing for us. Hope you are still having a good time collecting with your kiddo.
I only got into pressing and slabbing within the last two years. I use CCS and CGC and would love to learn more about the preserving and improving older comics.
Thanks for sharing!
That was a great video very helpful keep it up👍👍
I just bought a press! I have been ironing and dry cleaning.
I have several friends that press books..really a good investment..Thanks for the video.
I've just been leaving mine underneath heavy books for a week. This makes more sense.
I love your videos so much
IM OLD COLLECTOR. I JUST STARTED TO SEND MY BOOK TO GET PRESS TO EROD. AND THE BOOK COMES BACK A WHOLE LOT BETTER. YOU HAVE A CHANCE TO IMPROVE THE GRADE.I SAY HELL YEAH GET IT PRESSED. GREAT VIDEO. MEOW
Probably the single most underrated part of the hobby. Nice video.
Your videos are the best Gem. You should definitely do make a video with him.
Waiting on that live show tonight!!
Good information yet again by Gem Mint. You can also press your own comic books and save money, there are some youtube videos that show you how to press your own comic books without having to send them away to some company to press it for you.

A live show would be cool. I'd like to know more of what he can do for not only comics but magazines. I have a few collectors issues that are old and in good to excellent condition but could probably benefit from pressing after all these years.
Thanks for a short video explaining this
EPIC t-shirt!
I've had books pressed by CGC and got 9.8s from them. Didn't think I would get those grades since the books were dinged pretty bad.

GOOD VID. INFORMATIVE.
Dope shirt bro. Vids are always top notch 👌🏼 please make a vid on how to read Batman in chronological order starting from Batman year one. Really want to read them but don’t know the best way to start. Thanks! 🙏
So I’m new to pressing and grading. So I send my stuff to CGC to grade I can just add pressing
There are a couple books on how to press comic books on Amazon.
good to know
I definitely have some comics that need pressing. I haven't done any grading yet but I plan to.
Interesting!
What happens if you do have a color breaking wrinkle? I'm guessing pressing wouldn't fix that problem or make it worse? Or does it simply make the comic not eligible for pressing?
Thanks for the tips, I am currently looking into sending some comics for grading, since it will be my first time I need to get a lot of information...CGC? or CBCS? I am still not sure.

Well the video is What is pressing... now how to press
Great vid! I think if any positive alteration has been done to the book - it is restoration. Pressing adds water and heat into the paper of the book. We don’t know long term what that actually does to the integrity of the comic. I’d always choose a comic that is unaltered over one that has been. That includes CGC slates. I think that these money scams are what has ruined comics. (Using the generalised ‘you’ here) If you are going beyond a bag and board... you are not a comic reader, you are a collector; cold, speculative, hoarding to tick boxes or make money. Comics are for reading and enjoying. Ornaments are for putting on a shelf.
I’m late to the party 🎉 Geminites 💎 Mount up 😎 🙌🏻🔥🙌🏻
A do it yourself method i would probably do is to get anything that is heavy enough with a flat surface on it to place it on top of the comic as its flattened on a clean debris free floor and leave it overnight.

Yeah and that's risk right there if you know how to do it without ruining you're comics. I personally wouldn't bother with pressuring it with heat because i wouldn't want to ruin any of my comics no thank you lol.

So I just now got books back from CGC, and they don't at all like they got pressed. I paid for the service, but it looks to me that they just slabbed my books without pressing.
Thanks for the video gem mint so I got some singles that need a CGC grade all I do is send them in?

Hey Gem, Do you know how to get rid of “musty” comic book smells from Silver/Bronze Age? And does it affect the value? I feel like that’d be another good insightful video
@kleinstruction874
4 жыл бұрын
I knew a comic store owner that would place fresh newspaper in the pages and under and on top of comics with the old book smell and just leave it sitting out for a few weeks. The smell leaves the comic, absorbed into the new paper.

I’m really interested in you doing a live stream with him. I’m looking for someone to press books, really I would only trust someone you recommend. I’m loving this content man this all stuff I’m trying to learn. That Mario instruction guide is a night & day difference. Probably adds value to the game too. This is where it's at Dylan Brock about to get big
I would like to say and i hope everyone would agree that pressing is a form of maintaining the book and like you said it adds nothing to the book. So chock it up to regular maintenance kinda like checking your oil on your vehicle you didnt add or take away you just performed a maintanence routine
If there was a signature on a comic. Would pressing the comic affect the signature?

If you are determined to learn to do this, go grab some dollar and 50 cent bin books and practice on that for a long while trying different techniques and get it down pact before moving onto something expensive.

Certain types of covers can't be pressed. Also, you can put a comic between a stack of books for a while and it will help. Stack must be heavy enough

You can buy a heated press
Watching this 4 years later. Looks like Mike and his business are gone and some customers left without their books returned. Shame.
SPOILER: Comic book pressing is what happens when you lay back on the weight bench, then lift a comic book instead of steel. Always use a spotter. A spotter is a person who flings droplets of ink at you while you do it. Doing it means engaging in intercourse. Intercourse is a term for engaging another in conversation. Be sure you are laying back when in engaging in intercourse whether there are droplets spotting or not. Incidentally, no comic book is needed for this activity, and it could get ruined anyway.
CGC doesn't call it restoration because it's good for business. That's fine with me, but if you look at the dictionary definition it's pretty hard to say it's not restoring it.
I don’t like the sound of this, it sounds to me like it could ruin the integrity of the paper, even though it may look prettier, you are putting stress on that paper, I’m sure it is easier for that paper to break apart after pressing.
