I send in signed books for grading. I'll take the green label because I was the one that got them signed and they are never leaving my collection. So it's up to you as an individual.

I send all my signed books to CBCS since they have Beckett authenticate all the autographs.

Problem is even autograph authentication is flawed. We did a test years ago. We sent several autographs fake and real in. We also sent ones in got them back then sent them again. And found there is a lot of varied opinions. We had ones come back as not authentic and they were signed in person. Others that were fake came back time and time again as real. Authentication is only for the buyer/ investor to make them feel good

Made a couple of those mistakes. I’d recommend for lower value books, say under $100 fmv, consider selling the raw and just purchase the book already graded. At least crunch the numbers. It works in my favor often and limits risk & time. Great video! #comictomgiveaway

I got a question. just starting back into comics after 20+ years hiatus. There was no graded comics back when I used to collect but I just picked up a Avengers Annual #10 CGC 9.8. The book is in one of the older CGC holders and it feels flimsy. I was thinking about re-slabbing and was wondering if you think doing a press/clean on a 9.8 would possibly help it get that 9.9 or would it actually hurt it on the re-grade? Also, do you have any recommended reputable pressers/cleaners that I can check out? thanks

I started sending my books to cbcs because I had a lot of signed books and they authorized the signing I feel that that's an alternative as well. A lot of people feel that cgc is still the top dog but I feel that if I get a 9.8 cbcs whatever cgc's is whatever the market dictates is what you're going to pay for it if you want that book it's a 9.8

I literally just got into comics yesterday while shopping at a thrift store for more items to resell on ebay. I found a stack of comic books collecting dust on a top shelf and decided to go online and look up the going rate of each book. I noticed that the values varied considerably, depending on the grade. Not knowing anything about grading, I checked out this video. Thankfully, almost every question I had was covered in this one short, well put together video. And for that, I thank you both. For what reason 107 people gave it a thumbs down, I'll never know. Keep up the good work Guys, I'll be following in great anticipation of your next video.

Hey guys, new to the channel but very much enjoyed your video. I've never been much of a comic collector, more of just an avid reader so kind of jumping into the depend on this head first after finding a box I stored in my attic way back filled with the matrix recalled preview comic they handed out at the premiere to the movie at theatres. I worked at one at the time and when they had some left over they were going to throw away I snagged a box and completely forgot about it till recently when the freeze hit the Houston area and burst my pipes, the books were unaffected but gave me a reason to clean out my attic so now I have over 200 mint/near mint comics to get graded or the bigger question is should I even grade them. I see they can go for as much as 1000 on ebay if a 9.8 although how often they sell and how that many more comics coming into the scene will affect the price and more to the point if I use CGC it looks to be about 100 dollars for each I grade at least, and while I can make money off them if they sell for 1000 that is a lot to put up for so many comics. Any advice on this for any one out there would be greatly appreciated. Also I plan to release a video of the unboxing in a few days to show the quality of them though will be a simple video, not close to your production value. Thanks again in advance for your help.

I got my comics witnesses by someone at cgc but wanted other books I needed signed to get sent together and waited but by the time I got that done it was too late and I couldn’t find the person to give them to. I had a witness and a photo of the author with my books could I still send them or no?

Thanks for this video. question about the signature aspect. Some artists have sites where you can get a signed book by them with a COA. Will the CGC accept the COA as proof of signature, thereby giving the grade a yellow label or is it still green?

I know NOTHING about CGC, I own about 5000 books and only 3 of them are CGC only because I brought them like that (7.0 X-men 96, 6.0 X-men 100 & 9.0 Worlds Finest 177), I just don't believe in it, personally I don't see how you can enjoy your books that way unless your whole purpose is to sell them. I am also against having my books signed, and I never realized that green label was the "green label of death" I have seen plenty of videos where guys have stood in line for hours to get the books signed then they say in their videos NOW I'm gonna send this in to get graded by CGC, so just for the future whenever I have a guy sign a book a CGC dude has to witness it? What about all those guys who think they have GOLD because they stood on line for 2hrs getting that Stan Lee 5yrs ago? by the way....awesome video

I enjoy the historical value of comic keys as well as a lot of the silver age cover artwork for displaying which is why i like CGC

If you are a rookie like me and had comic books graded and didn't get them pressed and you didn't agree with the grade can you send the slab back to get the book pressed and regraded?

Great info gents. I agree 100% with all of these tips and like Tom, I've made all of these mistakes myself too. The biggest mistake that tends to not make sense is when collectors send their books in without pressing. It's insane to me. They usually say something like, "this is for my personal collection" or "I don't care about grades." But that isn't responsible and we MUST geek responsibly! If you're already grading your book take the time to get the best grade possible but more importantly you never know what is going to happen in the future you may need to sell those books to pay a bill. The higher the grade, the more money you get in the future. #comictomgiveaway

Mad Max pressing is essentially expertly ironing your books. It is using moisture, heat, and weight to “press” out imperfections which can produce higher grades when submitting your books. Cleaning and pressing go hand in hand to produce a cleaner higher grade book.

I never thought to remove book from original packaging to look for errors. Thank you for the tips.

Hey Gem I realize im a few years late but what if you have a COA directly from the publisher of the signed book? Can you then send that in and have it graded properly without a green label?

Koms Collections my understanding is that CBCS have authenticators and accept and recognise signatures without this blasted witness police..... How much do you have to pay CGC at a con for a witness and what’s the procedure I wonder?. CGC has the market but CBCS perhaps the better service?

@@the_watcher_collects_comic1450 yes they do. Let's not forget the one of the founders of CSBS was a former CGC founder. I think CSBS only lacks in labels appeal and market dominance. They seem to grade harsher/most accurate and they also offer third party authentication (albeit getting you a different label). It makes me wonder if CGC will ever loose market dominance. Their marketing of services and shrewd business tactics will keep them on top for a healthy time.

@@the_watcher_collects_comic1450 CGC charged $80 per comic at DragonCon in 2017, to authenticate Stan Lee's autographs. I got 2 of my comics signed by him, but couldn't afford CGC!

so I got a big question someone please get back to me ok I have a wildC.A.T.S #1 signed by him lee with a yellow slip of authenticity already in it but it wasn’t CGC graded and the authenticity guarantee is from junior comics my question is will that be enough will they take junior comics word for it?

You're better off just sending it to CBCS. They have signature verification there and will give you a special label.

Funny video. I've made ALL of these 'mistakes'. But honestly, what makes a book worth being graded is whether or not *I* want it graded. Every book doesn't need to be sold. I still appreciate you guys for making this video.

I have a green label book worth 16000 and one worth about 2500. Green label of affordability and presentation for major keys, not death. Ad page missing and one page married. Let's go

I think that was a great top five reasons to send stuff to see CGC and how to do it. The more your videos keep coming out the more interested people will be in, collecting because it takes the fear away from what they’re afraid -Especially grading

Sooo interesting watching this video almost 2 years later. All of your points are still valid, but I love how you are focused on the 9.6, 9.8, etc. given how things have changed. It is now much more worth sending a lower grade in given many people are priced out of the top grades. Obviously you don't want to send a $3 book in but that 1.0 Giant-Size X-Men that used to be worth almost nothing can now get you much more than the cost of the grading.

Awesome video. I just sent in my first submission. After months of going through about 100 books I would like slabbed and scrutinizing their condition I finally decided on 5 books that I feel have the best chance of 9.8. I chose to have them pressed by ccs at the same time and I chose prescreening for 9.6 because if they are lower than that I felt it would be wasting money. Great advice in this video. Fingers crossed that I made some good choices of books for my first time.

If there is a big enough discrepancy, CGC will change the tier and charge you accordingly
