Hello, Dave! It's my first video on MOOC and fortunately it was this one. You have explained it very nicely and simply, I must say. Thank you for sharing your years of knowledge within less than five minutes. I've recently enrolled in a great online course and I'm sure I'm gonna use these points you have mentioned in this video. Good day!

A great presentation. We are developing connectivist-style MOOCs for a vocational education and training project in Australia. As part of my research, I have read extensively the work that you, Messrs Siemens, Downes and Attwell have completed. As a result, we are also developing a generic PLE linked to resources and social media, an open source e-Portfolio, a series of MOOCs, learner guide blog and support structures. I am looking forward to the end product. Thank you for your inspiration.

A MOOC is practically taking a topic a professional in the field gives information about, then branching out and giving your own input and ideas about it.

You can create a MOOC on a blog, too. It doesn't have to cost money to be a MOOC. Moodle and Google sites are free. You just have to pay for the domain and a hosting company. A MOOC does not have to be on a course or learning management system. It's supposed to be "open".

#cse627 I like this idea of being able to learn through engagement, not just completing assignments. It sounds like a MOOC allows for a lot of free exploration and then to share it...kind of like doing a group research project where you all contribute, but you get to contribute what stands out the most to you...or maybe what is of most value to you as a learner.

Christine, the key here is "open". How can a course management or learning management system be open if teachers cannot create a course on the platform? Coursera is not open to teachers. It costs the universities money to use it. Why don't universities use a free open source system such as MOODLE?

I'm just now coming to a point where I can really start to learn to use those resources, and hopefully develop their infrastructure in the future. Do you have any suggestions for structured free education/information sites and/or material on self-education or speculation on the future of education?

Library of books was the main access to info. The World Book & Britannica once a year used to be the most updated sources of info. 1 of the most comprehensive encyclopedia was in Ming Dynasty China during the reign of Yong-Le Emperor: "Yong-Le Da Dian" with info compiled during Admiral Zheng He's voyages to parts of the world. Printed books are difficult to update. Online learning allows free access anywhere worldwide. There is already many free how-tos: fixing a car or playing music.

Présentation très sympathique ! A revoir avant de concevoir un Mooc ... Ce que j'aime bien, c'est la dernière phrase : il n'y a que vous qui pouvez dire si vous avez réussi. Participate in a Mooc is like to participate in the Marathon. It is anonymous, but you are not alone, we are many and it is friendly. Most participants do not seek to compete with others, but only to themselves.

At the end of the video you mention that mooc's are based on the notion that the participant judges weather they were successful in the learning process or not much as they do in the real world. I have a tentative position on this as individuals perceived success at learning is often inflated, or it can come at the detriment (and often oppression) of others. If we begin to set the bar of acquired knowledge, for all elements of life, at the individuals perceived benefit, can this be dangerous?

Whoa there, vilkoos, you might want to recognize the "possibility" that knowledge is emerging and that platforms like MOOCs help facilitate the social construction of knowledge. Things change over time and that's part of the beauty of open, on-line learning. While you're certainly entitled to your opinion, it isn't the be all end all as the tone of your post suggests.

MOOC might become the creative common for digital scholarship. Life long learning processes becomes the necessity for digital natives and migrants who have the intelligence to connect and to create collaborative Web based Working Space. Good ideas are bringing the people forward and recreate resilience in these years where there will be spent much money for bankers, but nothing for education.
