I have stage 4 and can't eat anything with glutamine or methionine, no sugars, no carbs...meaning strict vegetarian diet is the go to (no avocados)....I'm struggling with what to eat for breakfast because I have to eat with chemopills, 2 times a day, 12h in between, so I can't do fasting either. What should I have for breakfast? Any suggestions?

I stopped eating breakfast. I was always told breakfast was the most important. I'm never really hungry in the morning I forced myself to do it because i thought i should. I'm finding out I don't have to eat breakfast. I have more energy, and I'm less hungry throughout the day. It was the best thing I ever did. I don't eat until at least 11:30 or noon, and I'm better for it, and I'm losing weight❤

Eating the right kind of carbohydrates in the evening, like whole grains or vegetables, can help you sleep better. These foods help your body produce serotonin, a brain chemical that makes you feel relaxed and helps you fall asleep. It's also important because they keep your blood sugar level steady throughout the night, preventing sleep disturbances. Just make sure to eat them a few hours before bedtime, so your body has time to digest. Remember, it's not just about what you eat, but also maintaining a regular bedtime and a comfortable sleeping environment to get good sleep.

I got so badly constipated, my bowel got inflamed, that i might need an operation to fix the damage caused, i went back eating oatmeal and now im regular regularly and no need for surgery. Steel cut oats, cooked in spring water (no milk whatsoever) , a few fresh Brazil nuts, an underripe banana, and a couple spoons 🥄 of Greek yogurt, plus one pinch of salt 🧂 Now that’s a nutritious and legendary breakfast which will keep you going all day long 😊

I think there is something miraculous about oatmeal, and it seems that the people who eat it everyday for years (coupled with a healthy overall lifestyle) seem to have a higher likelihood of living well into their 80s/90s. I do eat oatmeal everyday BUT I use 1/4 cup of organic rolled oats soaked in 1 cup of Greek yogurt for 8 hours topped with 1/2 cup of wild blueberries and 1/4 cup of walnuts. Soaking them in Greek yogurt and eating it cold turns it into resistance starch for my microbiome and with the protein in the yogurt and fat in the walnuts that really blunts any blood sugar spike. Not everyone can or should do this but it works for me.

Learn to recognize what foods work for you, not what someone claims. Sure, it takes time, but it is the only way to keep yourself healthy. Over the years, I have determined my personal daily macro requirements and am on zero meds at 70+ years old with a normal BMI. (And I have eaten oatmeal and whole wheat bread for years. The worst diet for me was keto, which put me on statins while I was on it). Know your own body and don't worry about what others say or do. Do your own personal research.

Have a look at what Dr Phillip Ovadia says about 'cholesterol' and statins. It wasn't necessarily that keto put you on statins... it's more likely to be the ignorance of doctors generally, and the misconceptions around blood lipids/diet and statins that dictated statins. Ovadia is a U.S. cardiac surgeon

Yes agreed. Try and keep oats organic but yes we all different. If you check out Tim Spector he points out everyone has a different microbiome even identical twins so what satisfies our hunger for longest time within reason is individual . Also different people get different blood sugar spikes from different foods. Tim Spector said his wife who is french by birth didnt get massive spikes when eating French bread but Tim who loved french bread did so unfortunately he decided it best to avoid most of time unless it a special treat. They both used blood sugar monitors to analyse what gave them spikes and what didnt. The more you learn about nutrition the more I believe you realise there are no hard and fast one size fits all fixes just general rules that wise to follow such as reduce or cut out added sugars as much as possible , eat organic if you can afford, favour high fibre nutritionally dence foods in preference to hyper processed foods such as cake and Pringles. Let’s face it I find Pringles so addictive given half a chance I would eat an entire tube in an evening zero real nutrition just junk . I did stop eating crisps and cake/biscuits for around 10 months and guess what I lost 32 pounds………small modifications to diet swapping poor foods for better ones like 25 grams of nuts for Pringles can make a real difference.

I do intermittent fasting, eat mostly organic and low carb. But oatmeal is one of the few high carb food that I really like and instinctively make me feel that's good for me, the other high carb I enjoy are bananas and quality honey. I prepare my oatmeal with a lot of cinnamon, often with sheep milk or adding skyr, greek yogurt or kefir and some Brazil, macadamia or walnut nuts and blueberries...for me a great cheap and healthy meal that keeps energized for hours! 😄

I've been eating oats for breakfast literally from the day I was born. I stopped eating oats when I started keto, and gradually I got arthritis in my fingers. One morning I couldn't move any of my fingers at all. At that point for other reasons (for better bowel movements) I decided to start oatmeal again, I never expected it would have an effect on my arthritis, but miraculously the very next day, I regained movement in my fingers to a large extent. It was totally unexpected and at first I couldn't understand why my condition had improved so dramatically. The only thing I did differently was the oats! My guess is that the soluble fiber fed the good bacteria and reduced inflammation. But after seeing what you have to say about Chia seeds, I think I will give that a try! Thank you.

While adapting to keto it is so easy to get an imbalance in your electrolites due to the lack of carbohydrates. Also carbs get stored with water, if you don´t have carbs it´s easier to loose water and with that important minerals, such as magnesium, very important for your joints and muscles. I tried for about a month, just to experiment. Even though I knew this and paid attention by drinking water with some salt in the morning and taking mineral supplements, my body did not respond well. Everybody is different and has a different gut biome and metabolism.

I’ve been doing 30% protein, 30-40% carbs, 30-40% fats for a while now, and I feel great, I’ve lost weight, my skin looks great and my energy levels are better than ever. I eat oatmeal about twice to three times a month when I’m craving sweet, creamy things (always around my period). I do rolled oats boiled in full-fat goat milk, add vanilla extract, Stevia or Allulose to sweeten, a pinch of salt and abit of cinnamon or nutmeg. I top with crushed almonds and walnuts, pumpkin seeds, ground flax seed, chopped up 70% dark chocolate and chopped fruits (usually banana or berries). If I’m feeling abit extra, I even add abit of ghee or pure butter. I eat it warm, and it’s not just delicious, but so comforting and satisfying when I’m PMSing and craving carbs…my body is just wired to crave carbs + fat + sweet and/or creamy things during that time of the month. Sometimes I’ll also make chicken Alfredo using low-carb pasta and chicken breast during that time eventhough I don’t usually care for it, I try to make the healthiest version of it without compromising taste too much.

Always drinking only water. Lately I started eating omelette for every other day. I feel a lot more energized again. This just proves the fact that oatmeal is good, but you can still go to great. My problem now however was that even if I had 4 eggs I felt very hungry. So I combined it with some bacon and a salad. Now I feel like I reached the best combination so far. Within 3-6 month i was another person . I was a sportman anyway , run 3 times a weeck 25 mn 3 km etc , exercise and swim a lot but i felt the upgrade . I feel better , look better, weigh less without effort . Toilet frequency perfect . Never hungry . During that period i took vitamin B12 tabs as suppliments . I am back to eating chicken and fish but my breakfast remains strictly the same . lunch is basically a salad with a boiled egg . never eat out .

Breakfast in the Peruvian Andes differs from the typical breakfast in developed countries. While the Andean breakfast is hearty and includes a variety of ingredients like pork meat, cheese, natural milk cream, meat soups, breakfast in developed countries tends to be more focused on carbohydrates like cereal, toast, or pastries. It's fascinating how food traditions can vary so much across different regions and cultures. Thanks for helping us Doctor!

I'm glad you pointed out that oats affect different people in different ways. I've always eaten oatmeal since I was a kid. Typically a bowl a day. Mind you, I use the plain whole grain oats (not the kind with the added sugar or treats in them) cooked with unpasteurized milk... with bananas and blueberries tossed in with some honey to top it off. Always fills me up, never leaves me feeling bloated or hungry. A few of my friends would see me eating it and say it's bad for me and I was always like "how though?! What about it is bad?" This video helped shed light on some of the downsides, but I figure as long as I stay active and avoid processed foods, plain oats aren't going to hurt me much, if at all.

I dont dispute most of what you say Sten, but comparing an oats based breakfast with your eggs & avocado, the costings are at great variance. Currently here in UK, a 45g portion of good quality oats costs £0.09, whilst the frozen cherries i have with it would cost £0.32 and £0.19 for 15 g milled chia seeds, total cost £0.66, with a very small portion of semi skimmed milk costing pennies, under £0.04. Your version would cost £0.43 for 1/2 avocado, £0.62 for 2 free range eggs, not to mention the costs of the vegetables and evoo you suggest. With one tabsp costing about £0.20, never mind the rest of the veggies, probably adding up to a total of over £1.40, that is double the cost of the oats breckfast. For most of the population needing to get healthier, working class people, in a cost of living crisis, the choice is a no-brainer!

I like to do what is called overnight quick oats with whole milk. My favourite combo is ground flax seed for extra fibre, nuts for more protein and fats, raisins, cinnamon and a little maple syrup which is lower on the glycemic index for a sugar. I went to that as my go to from store bought bread, peanut butter and jam. I feel it did help me lose some stubborn weight that I was having difficulty with and I am able to keep it off. I feel more satiated in the morning and I feel it gives my the energy for my workout and job. On my days off I do eggs. I’m a big breakfast guy would not miss it.
