Indigenous person here from the Diné people (navajo) this episode was absolutely beautiful. Inclusion and representation is always important but shit this episode was just so much fun. Great to have a new creative story/character/and alternate world history. An insightful what if... story for the peoples of the world to experience but just know it doesn't replace your established stories and histories.

Idk why, this episode actually made me tear up quite a few times. Natives needed nothing short of a miracle to save themselves from the colonisers, and being a descendant of a people who were colonised, I felt really connected.

We weren't ultra peaceful people. It is true that we were colonized in the end but let's not pretend we didn't regularly war with each other over territory and resources.

I was actually brought to tears from this episode, because too often in tv and especially in movies do we see Native Americans portrayed only as victims who were robbed of everything, but in this world, they stood up and succeeded in defending their home. And it was thanks to a young Mohawk woman named Kahhori. This has been my most anticipated anticipated episode of What If for the past year, and far exceeded my high expectations. I would absolutely love to see more of Kahhori. In comics, tv, and especially in movies. *GIVE US MORE OF THIS WORLD, AND OF KAHHORI!*

@JoeChianelli Except the fact they have flaws which make them relatable. In Kahhori's case you could probably only relate if you're native american, but even then she is a Mary Sue, so most people wouldn't be able to in any way.

kahhori meeting the wakandans would be a interesting. They find peace pretty quick, but it be fun to see her have a friendly match with their black panther.

I agree, they should've made this the premiere episode for Season 2, it's not unheard of for premiere episodes to be longer than subsequent episodes, maybe even a short movie. Clone Wars comes to mind.

While it would be absolutely ideal from a story-telling perspective if there was a slow ramp-up towards mastery of her powers, this is also the same cinematic universe that JUST had Happy Hogan able to become the Hulk and beat a Hulk Smasher after merely receiving an injection. He didn't really have to earn the power. Likewise, Captain America merely had to lie down in a pod to get his superpowers, and he seemed pretty adept from the get-go. Falling into a magic lake in this story really isn't much different. (Though yeah, from a storytelling perspective, it would be more satisfying to get that slower build. Good point about how the ending might've been more exciting if she still didn't quite understand her own skillset.)

Yeah, but I don't care to see the Happy Hogan movie. I don't think anyone really does. That felt more like a joke where as this felt more important and something that could really be part of the MCU in a meaningful way.

I think this is the proper way to do this things. I always found weird to see people in wakanda for example speaking English the 97% of the time... I don't usually demand anything from fiction. But I DEMAND a live action of this character, played by maybe the girl from 'Prey'.

This is where the fun begins!!!! This was so refreshing for Marvel/MCU! Creating an original character! Marvel has done this before when they introduce X-23 in the X-Men: Evolution series back in 2001. I'm really curious about what Kahori's character will be like in the comics in the future! My genuine remark on this episode is this: Visually, Instant best episode in What If for me, with 1x4 running close second. Plotwise, i like the general plot, although i am slightly set off by the rushed learning phase of Kahhori's powers, and the ending. The ending wasnt bad, but it kinda leaned towards the "hero has trouble learning, learns, gives a speech, and goes on to win instantly, no troubles faced" trope. But overall, still a solid episode, placeable way higher than some of the season 1 episodes. Kahhori got a good introduction.

Looks like someone at Marvel watched PREY.

I agree this one feels like this story felt like it would have been even better as a 60 minute dramatic episode or 90 minute film. It just didn’t feel like quite enough time toward ramping her up to the point she became the superpower she was at the end. But yeah, both seasons of What If so far are fantastic!

Poor Jaby had made that intro 6 times back to back, give him a break 😂😂😂

We need more this kind of What it..? introduce new stuff and tie do MCU later

Explanation to address Jaby's complaint... Carol Danvers clearly demonstrates that Space-stone energy is emotionally entwined in Captain Marvel. We spent the first third of Captain Marvel with Yon-Rogg trying to keep 'Vers' emotions in check. Kahhori's experience seems to be very similar and, as a result, accelerated without that emotional dampener.

Loved this! zthis went beyond any other WHat IF? episode for me

if you love what ifs involving natives: read east of west. great comic set in an alternate america where the west is ruled by asians (chinese) the american south by blacks, and the american mid west by natives with the whites to the north east. also, the main character is the death, a horsemen of the apocaplyse.

This epd was the BEST one so far! something NEW! for a change.....I'm glad they didn't make them all speak English....enjoyed every moment of this! she makes you feel so empowering! LOVED IT!

Spain never encountered the Mohawk. The Mohawk lived in the territories occupied by the English and French (New York and Quebec), and their story is told in the film The Last of the Mohicans. If you want to know something about the history of the Spanish and the North American Indians, it would be better to consult with Alfonso Borrego, the grandson of the famous Apache chief Geronimo or you can also consult the history of Fort Mose.

Filipinas was conquered and colonised by people of mixed race, Indians and Creoles all born in Mexico, from Mexico the Philippine islands were administered. I thought that this episode was more about the Mayan tribes! Some people believe that they did not compete the Mayan calendar because the Spaniards came along and murdered them all! This is so far the best episode to me!

I had a lot of fun watching this episode and reaction. I would really like to see Marvel do more stories like this in the What If series about other cultures with different outcomes from our world. There are stories of oppression in all cultures no matter what race you are and I'd like to see all of those variant stories of what if those cultures had the ability to properly defend themselves. Enjoyed the reaction 👍👍✌ out.

If i had to guess Shes probably a mutant her X gene was activated by the tesseract and its why her powers are so much stronger then the others, or her open wound gave her direct space stonw energy

I completely agree, the journey was not satisfying. I love the setting and characters but this needed to be much longer.

Episode was cool like anime not a fan of reading subtitles but thats a small nitpick. This was interesting but felt like i needed more from it was obvious they used this to test the waters to bring in a new character and what if can be used to get characters we havent seen like ghost rider or white tiger. Like everyone has been saying i think this needed a bit longer run time or to be a film/series to flesh it out more. Now if they use this and it ties to echo than would be cool too and build echos character up. I just dont know what this is gonna do moving forward.

Honestly in retrospect, this episode almost makes me mad. This story deserved an entire movie and the suits decided a 30 minute episode was all the risk she was worth. That being said. and what does it change at what have been done excatly ?

I think the only thing they needed to add was a point of reference for her pre power skills. Something like Prey where they show she has the abilities before she goes up against the Predator. You bring up Rey Skywalker, but they did the same with her. She had fighting skills before she was awakened. She just augmented them with the Force. All Kahhori has is determination and a sense of adventure. I guess the determination was what helped on the fail montage because it showed her using more and more branches.

Every stone would have radiation, and enough exposure to that radiation would give anyone powers . Mind Space reality and power seem to have a way higher radition level , which is why we have heroes like Captain Marvel that are indirectly powered by space stone

The point of What IF's are to essentially trying to see what sells to the market best or am i deluded?

Yes but Marvel/Disney wanted to jntoduce another poc Mary Sue as a plot device, so it gor shoehorned in, amd did nothing to develop what could have been an amazing character. Sadly they failed in the heroes journey yet again, and only managed to create yet another token for PoC with power bingo.

@aries0968 or they could be marketing peoples reactions to a character thats not well known and from a culture doesn't have the best history with depictions. Disney/Marvel is using a lot characters not known by the general audience So that's what I would do amd especially with the What If TV format its a good test run, for any future plans.

Huh? IF I wanted to read a whole episode of "What if"I'd go to the Library?!?! People do still know what that is?! Also what about people who can understand, but can't read!!!
