When I was younger I had mixed feelings on the show and was just confused by some of its choices but it's fun to revisit it and see where it could've gone, I would love to see it come back and bring these underrated batman/dc characters to light

I'm currently rewatching Beware The Batman and this show is awesome and criminally underrated, so much untapped potential with show and it's bummer it never got to continue and truly show how fantastic this was going to be.

Velma got an order for 25 episodes. They split it into two seasons to save on costs. Even if Season 1 made $0, they still would have released Season 2.

I liked that it used lesser known Batman villains. We had seen Joker, Catwoman, Penguin, Riddler and the like many times already so I loved that it gave other villains time to shine.

​@@andrewdau1299Honestly writers have different visions for Characters. Joker used to be a mostly harmless prankster or Deadshot was a fake superhero. I liked what they did was Pyg he bounced off Toad well and was a huge physical and mental threat to Batman. Anarchy was great though they could have replaced him with wraith or Phrtometus.

Seeing barbara gordon as robin gave me flashbacks to carrie kelley robin which if it is a reference sounds like a really touching idea

I still watch this show i love that they gave Batman's lesser known villains a chance and tried to mix things up

She was definitely one of the stand out characters! The episodes that dealt with Ra's Al Ghul and Lady Shiva were some of the best and I think it's where the show really started improving in quality.

Even though this wasn't my favorite Batman show, the concept art makes me wish it had continued, as I am a fan of alternate takes on characters. One idea I think would have been cool if Anarky became this show's version of the Joker. What I mean is what if one episode, possibly the finale involved Anarky falling into a chemical vat, then in the end, Anarky monologue in shadow, only showing slight features, and said monologue has a rather comedic bent as he now sees the 'funny' side of life.

I'm fukin pissed off that this was canceled,this is my favorite batman show!

Always sad when a show tries something new, makes it work, and still gets canned, it's gotta stop, sure I don't want them to let out too many seasons if it got a chance for another season cause other wise it would eventually get tiresome and stale, but I do want them to finish what they started. Also I like to think Beware the Batman and Green Lantern the animated series are connected, just a fun thought.

Agreed! I also always thought the same thing when both GLTAS and Beware were airing at the same time, maybe if both shows would’ve been more successful they would’ve made both shows be a part of the same universe, it’s a real shame that both shows ended so quickly

I'm a fan of different takes on tried and tested superheroes, I'm interested to see new or lesser known characters given new life, and a childhood raised on Beast Wars has fashioned me into a CGI apologist of the highest calibre. As such, I really liked this show and would have loved for it to continue. I agree with your points about the show's name and Gotham's atmosphere. It seemed far too barren and empty for the gothic, dirty, and dark city Gotham is famed to be, but that might have changed with later seasons. I would have also wanted Katana to get a proper outfit instead of just a domino mask with her regular clothes; that just seemed lazy character design, even with limited character models. It's a shame that it's gone; there was potential here for something great. Now I'm just waiting for that Caped Crusader series to land; it's been almost a decade since this show and I'm feeling the drought.

I really agree with what you said about Katana! I was also really underwhelmed by her appearance on the show and wished that they gave her a better suit, I personally always loved her New 52 look. I'm also dying to see Caped Crusader btw! Hopefully we won't have to wait much longer

it honestly just sounds like most of the criticism and pushback against it came from the fact that most people were somehow to stupid to catch on to the fact that Beware The Batman is very clearly in its own self-contained universe, separate from DC’s mainline universe, so it’d be ridiculous to expect it to abide by the mainline continuity

I believe BTB was definitely more adult oriented, and somewhat misleading to the younger audience. This series in my view came after The Brave & The Bold Series & Young Justice Season 2 ended, so there was almost going to be some expectations as to how BTB was going to measure up to all past Batman Series’s. Maybe if it was more advertised towards Adult Swim, it would’ve been more successful, as far as the viewerships were concerned. At the same time, maybe showing it on HBO wouldn’t have been a bad idea either, in a similar way they showed Spawn back in the late 1990’s. Still, if Max would bring back Young Justice & finish Titans, who’s to say they won’t try to do the same with BTB, or at least make a new series with similar contents. Guess for now, we’ll have to settle for Harley Quinn, but I’m definitely wanting to see a new Batman Series with some Updated Storylines.

I like the show so much because he face other villains as the Joker, Riddler, Freeze etc. It's so refreshing. And Bruce and Batman Difference and his beginning Splitpersonalitiy is really interessting worked out.

I just watched the whole season on HBO Max and beware the Batman is a good show and am sad learning it never got a season two.

I just finished this series last night. At first, I wasn't getting fimiliar with what was happening in the show, with all less known villians and the story but the show started to pickup after 4th or 5th episode for me, I really started to enjoy it. I liked the art style, the theme, and after 26th episode, I wanted more. Its sad that this got cancelled. And you mentioned how Batman dislocated his shoulder and fixed it on the spot, my jaw dropped when I saw it, because I've never seen anything like this in a Batman series, so yeah, ut would've been cool to see more of this series.

Great video! The only other teases we got for season 2 where in a tweet from writer Mark Banker, where he mentioned Killer Croc was slated to return, more new villains would've been introduced, and there was a big reveal that was cut out. A shame that season 2 will never come to fruition.

Imagine being mad about Professor Pyg getting more focus.

I always remember the theories flying around back in the day that they were setting Anarchy up to become the BTB version of Joker, which kind of makes sense given their close personalities, and would subvert the comic story of having him be Red Hood beforehand

Terribly underrated show! I honestly thought "Beware's" version of Professor Pyg was much more unique/interesting than the cliche, psychotic surgeon in the comics. Him and Mr. Toad where a great duo!

I wish they would have never went with the CGI art style, it came off as lazy and forced, only for me to find out how they really put a lot of work into building backgrounds and the utility belt and everything, I hated the show when it came out, I was excited for it, thinking it was going to be the new BTAS or The Batman, only to be very disappointed. It's clear watching as an adult they cared, but the animation and weird direction really shot the show in the foot.

I love this show. Never lose the hope for a second season 😢

I honestly wish ratings and early negative reception weren't factors that determine whether or not a T.V. series gets canned, I really think producers should be aloud to finish the series they create, even if the ratings are low there are still many fans who want their favorite series to continue and I don't really think it's fair to just scrap a series with potential just because viewership is low in some areas.

It wasn't cancelled due to ratings. It was cancelled because Mattel reneged on the deal to make toys for it. Without toys to promote, the show became useless for Cartoon Network, so they cancelled it.

This is my favorite battyman's series. I didn't like the massive change of Alfred though. But the cast of villains was fanfuckingtastic. Its fandom at it's best ❤ excellent job. U get my sub.

Honestly it was just so short sighted to cancel this show. My fav part was any scene with Pig and Toad-must watch. You are spot on but I want to add that what made this series so dope was that IT WAS SO DIFFERENT. Batman as a character has always been malleable to fit many different time periods and situations. I really wanted another season of this show. ITS NOT TOO LATE. Do it!

Beware the Batman was too scared to explore a son and father relationship between Batman and any of his robins katana is a good ally to Batman but she is no sidekick same with metamorpho this show was scared of traditional Batman lore and a lot of his characters such as Jason Todd, Stephanie brown and Cassandra Cain which would have been way more complex and interesting than whatever katana storylines were.

When it comes to beware the batman apart of me still remembers seeing the tv spots on this show and I used to the lil computer game on the CN website back when those were a thing may've never saw it while it aired and didn't see it until 2016 where ibwatched it in full which the amimation felt really stiff but you get used to it some episodes in but the one thing I applaud this show for is being/doing things differently for they mostly went for completely unknown characrers/villians which is very outta the norm for most barman cartoons but aye its already 10 years removed and I doubt most folks barley remember this show existed once

I just finished this one. I saw there was a petition to make season 2, but it would've aired in 2022 (according to information about it) but with the WB/Discovery merge I'm sure that's good and dead.

The writing wasn’t that bad but the animation was AWFUL. I really hate computer animation.

I just finished watching the first season and I'm pissed that they didn't continue the show. This show is heavily underrated, the storyline and action was great. Lastly, I like the fact that they used some unpopular characters especially the villains.

Mr.Terrific could have appeared as michael Holt was in the first episode and that would have been awesome

I just watched it and love it! I hope they will do another season. It’s not impossible. They have continued the X-Men series decades later.

Like many here got alot of love for this show, more seasons would have been great. Really enjoyed how they introduced characters naturally, we got more classic villains as it went on and it was nice to see the direction they went in

To be honest, at one point I did hated this show because of the art style and the 3-D animation but once this show was taken off of Cartoon Network and put it onto adult swim, I started to fall more and more in love with the show, and to be honest, I really did wish the show did continue with more seasons before it got canceled.

This show just reminds me a lot of the 2012 TMNT. I think the writers or animators did both shows. Clearly the 2012 TMNT was an action based show that ended up actually staying.

There's probably some other crew working on both shows, but Glen Murakami directed some of the 2D animated sequences in TMNT while also showrunning this series.

No, it wasn't. Green Lantern was cancelled because the movie failed, so there was no demand for its merch and retailers didn't want to order merch for the show. So, there was nothing to fund the show beyond one season. Beware was supposed to air on the same block, but got held back a bit.

I saw the first season of beware the bat and thought it was ok but still didn’t like it but with everything in this video now I want to go back and rewatch the season now I’m wishing we got season 2

I just finished this show for the first time, and dare I say you could put it top 2-3 Batman shows of all time? I severely misjudged this show when it first came out, but when this show got rolling I was on the edge of my seat at all times. Jesus, what an amazing show.

I really wish they would do a second season, or at least give us a movie with some closure to it! 😢

I'm only finding out about this show now, several years later. But wow, I've watched the first few episodes, and it is incredible. The CGI art was a little uncomfortable at first, but by the end of the first episode, I was fine with it. It gave it a more realistic look with greater depth and substance. I also wasn't initially happy with the beefed up version of Alfred, but it wasn't too big of a change and I got over it. When I saw Simon Stagg, I was expecting Metamorpho to show up, and yes I recognized Katana, but for some reason, I didn't realize they were foreshadowing the Outsiders. The writing was quite good, and really kept you watching. Ultimately, I really like that the different Batman shows have utilized different art styles, because as a comics reader, I'm used to art styles changing, sometimes unexpectedly in the middle of a story. Consistency is good, but it's nice to see different looks and styles, too.

I liked it enough to search the web so I could stream all the episodes (especially the ones I didn't see due to Cartoon Network moving the show around).

I remember early 2000s-mid2000s Cartoon Network those rainy days watching Young Justice, Ninjago, SW The Clone Wars and Amazing World of Gumball I took those days for granted

Don't matter what they call it. It's Batman the bar was already created with TAS. I'm a huge fan of batman and this show was overlooked. It had so many adult undertones. It was on CN Saturday mornings then moved to [AS]. Slowly the show started disappearing off the network. Ugh, this show had so much damn potential I pray somehow season two can resurface. I miss this undderated show.

You know I had a lot of issues with this show one of which was the 3d animation I don't really like 3d animation for Batman and I'm fine with the show adding new villains for example Batman TAS gave us Harley quinn and a bunch of others but they kept the original Villains like The Joker he and Anarchy could have been pals too. Although if the animation for Spider-Man into the Spider-verse was developed a few years earlier than it could have been used for Beware The Batman because it would have made the cartoon feel way more like a living comic book the same way Spider-Man into the spider-verse did I also wish that animation could have been used for League of Super pets.

And now, we have such a lack of action cartoons... the few that exist like Kung Fu Panda - Dragon Knight, or Usagi Chronicles, also do not last long.

I love this shows version of Professor Pyg as the voice actor made him sound uncannily like Alfred Hitchcock.

They could call it Batman in the outsiders for season two

Just started watching this on Max. Took me a few episodes to get used to it but Im enjoying it as a alternate story. Kinda refreshing to see a Batman series that doesnt focus on the usual baddies.

Small rant here, but can DC stop giving the identity of Nightwing to other characters than Dick Grayson in adaptations? It's an iconic role for him and major part of his character development, but giving it to Barbara Gordon or Katana disrespects that. Not only that, but it's a slap in the face to them as well, as these characters have actual identities unique to them and so many interesting stories to tell without shoving someone else's identity in. Same thing goes for making Babs Robin. Just... no. Sorry but this is a big reason I am not the biggest fan of Beware the Batman.

Common Nightwing fans wouldn't be so open-minded to Katana Nightwing since in their minds they associate the mantle with Dick Grayson and refuse to see someone else take the mantle. Even I felt a little strange seeing Katana as Nightwing until I understood that this was a different universe, whatever I saw on television could not be compared since this show clearly showed that it's not going to be like the Animated Series or The Batman.

I wanted a season 2 at least. I liked it. The art style was different but at the time there was a few shows with the same style.

Glen Murakami (the guy who made and shared that concept art) actually clarified that it's supposed to be Barbara Gordon as Robin, though she looks very similar to Carey Kelly!

I hope some day they will continue the series

It would've been interesting to see the Joker on this show. And I like that first concept design.

What ruined it for me was the cgi and the design choice for what was gonna keep me watching which was Batman

I feel like just as how Batman helped elevate the outsiders and the Justice League International and served as a hook to get readers interested in these less iheroes, I feel as if the show would have been better off if it included at least one of Bats’s iconic villains right off the bat (no pun intended), rather than use exclusively C and B listers. While one’s like Deathstroke may be iconic to you and I, the average kid who this show was aimed at would be more familiar with the classic rogues: Joker, Two-Face (who was set up outright), Penguin (same case here), Riddler, Bane, Catwoman, Poison Ivy. I feel they hound have included at least one of those, probably Joker or Penguin, who would serve as the hook same as Batman to get more interested in these more obscure villains.

Personally I love the fact that they used lesser known villains. I've watched so much Batman that I am almost tired of his normal Rogues gallery. Dont get me wrong i love a good penguin or Mr Freeze but it gets a little same old same old.

I hope maybe one day the season 2 could be a reality ! But with the new batman caped crusader show coming on amazon prime I dont know if network could bring beware the batman 😔.

The problem is and was that batman the animated series set the level high and the standard of why shows could be. It is wrong to compare it to all other projects instead of letting them be its own thing like beware the batman. It wasn't trying to be batman animated series and that was ok. I miss both beware the batman and green lantern series.

You really make a good point, BTAS set the standard of what a superhero show could be so high that every single new series (especially new Batman shows) will always get unfairly compared to it. I'd like people to have more of an open mind when new series get announced, because one day we'll get a new show that's just as good or even better than BTAS and the only way that a new series could achieve that level of quality is by taking risks and trying creative new concepts.
