    Honestly I really loved what this show was going for by showcasing often overlooked aspects of this character and his mythos. Little touches like Bruce buying adrenal glands to make his own epinephrine stimulants, the fact he drinks all his meals to compensate for his metabolism, the C list villains we've never seen adapted and the incorporation of his Sherlock Holmes-esque deduction and analytical skills into both combat and every day life were great little touches but it sometimes just didn't go past the collection of "nice little touches" into something that gave it a compelling wow factor

    Very underrated Batman series. It introduced plenty of new and different elements to Batman animation, from CGI animation and the focus on the Outsiders to obscure villains and the use of serialized storytelling and tight continuity. I feel it was really growing into something great before it was screwed over by Mattel and Cartoon Network like the other DC cartoons at the time.

    I agree. But I think hitting the lesser known villains was why it failed so fast. There's nothing wrong with using lesser known villains, but the way Beware the Batman did it was a mistake (and I hate having to say that because even that was done very well), I think if they started with a few better known criminals at first (like the first 3-5 episodes) and slowly introduced the lesser known ones, it could have done better. Then they could focus on more when they got more seasons. The animation was different, in a good way. The entire approach was great in my opinion. But Ra's Al Ghul and Two-Face being at the very end was done poorly. It could have been so much more had they not put it in a crappy time slot and not had it aimed at children. Like a late time slot on Cartoon Network or Adult Swim from the start. It didn't get its chance to shine, real shame too. My favorite part was when Bruce and Katana were in that restaurant and Bruce is naming all the crimes going on at that moment (guy cheating on his wife, judge or cop taking a bribe, etc.) and Katana asks him; "do you ever turn that crime radar off?" and he answers; "I don't...I can't..." never before have I heard a more accurate line that describes Bruce Wayne/Batman. I was *VERY* impressed with that being a lifelong Batman fan.

    I always thought this show deserved another shot and hoped that it would be connected to Green Lantern The Animated series and start a new 3D DCAU. I really don't think the way they tried to do things differently worked out though. I was never into their Alfred or the idea of Katana being his first partner and some of the smaller villains they focused on just felt like discount versions of bigger ones.

  • @BatmanfanYokokurama
    @BatmanfanYokokurama3 жыл бұрын

    I LOVED Beware the Batman!!! I liked the 3D animation (odd and different but in a good way in my opinion), the way Alfred was portrayed was great, and the less well known villains. But my favorite part in the series was when Bruce and Katana were in that restaurant and he's naming off all the crimes going on at one time (a man cheating on his wife, a cop or judge (it was a few years ago) taking a bribe, etc.) and she asks him "do you ever turn that crime radar off?" And he responds "I don't...I can't..." and I'm not sure I've ever heard a more real line for Bruce Wayne/Batman. Beware the Batman didn't have the chance to hit its stride. Aimed too high too fast. Yes, it was slow, yes, it was probably aimed at children, it shouldn't have been. If this were aimed at teenagers/adults like if it were put on Adult Swim from the get-go, it probably would have found its audience easily. But this is just my opinion, and I respect your opinion on this as well.

    I like the idea of a Batman series avoiding the major names and spotlighting characters we don't know about, since just about every character is worth something and you don't want to keep bringing the same names out too frequently so they run the risk of becoming stale or "needing" drastic overhauls to their personalities and presentations to differentiate them from other incarnations (you don't need to change them, just don't over-expose them)...Problem is, they didn't do most of these villains much justice; I remember Humpty Dumpty being good, but Deathstroke was very watered-down from how he normally is and Professor Pyg just couldn't even be Professor Pyg (as much as I love him, I think he and Zsasz are two characters who can never effectively be brought into kids media because their crimes can't be simply alluded to or downplayed with toxins the way The Joker can and has been). However, I like a kids show slowing down and taking its story seriously, as the DCAU always took its audience seriously and that paid off wonderfully for it; my own memories of being a kid always appreciated things that took themselves seriously and put emotions besides action into them and imagine that would still work today. While I've had my fill of "early career Batman stories" (I can only see Harvey become Two-Face or Batman meet Commissioner Gordon for the first time so many times and Experienced Batman is the guy with the most room for storylines and mythos anyway), "Beware the Batman" came out at probably the last good time to do that kind of story before it became a dead horse (or at least before said horse started to get beaten, much to my and Beware-Professor Pyg's fury), so that's an interesting enough quirk for the show (especially if it's the only kid-focused show to highlight this time period). I also have to give love to Still-Ready-For-MI-6-Alfred, since we always heard about his action-hero past but never got to see it; a little love for the thankless surrogate dad is nice once in a while. Buuuuut...yeah, the voice acting and animation weren't stellar, I already mentioned some of the villains being knee-capped and I'd be lying if I said I remembered all the twists and turns of the plot. I'd take Beware over a lot of other stories...but there are a lot of other stories I'd take over Beware just the same.

    I remember liking this show, though. I never thought I would like characters like Professor Pig or Humpty-Dumpty but it actually did a respectable job of building them up. This show had an emphasis on detective stories rather than just smooth brain action. Which is probably why Cartoon Network decided halfway though that it should air at 3AM and delayed the final 3 episodes for an entire year. Anyway I think my biggest complaint about it was that it was very stark. Scenes would often be comprised of 4 or less characters, no matter where they were. I actually wonder if the entire series was rendered on a low-spec PC.

    I remember this show as clear as day, back when DC Nation was a thing and Young Justice was airing on CN. I was pissed that they didn't use Batman's more iconic villains, relegating us to a pig that keeps popping up. Even then, I remember the show being boring. I only liked the slice of life moments with Kitana, Alfred and Bruce, and the action.

    I remember this. To me this show looked like an unfinished animatic. Gotham City itself was always empty. There were characters like Anarchy who looked like their gray-scale models. The idea of Katana working with Batman isn't far fetched given she's worked with him on The Outsiders, but like everything in the show, they took away any color to her costume and made her bland. The whole show is empty, one-note, colorless, and bland. Magpie probably was the only design that showed any kind of flavor. I get that they wanted to use Batman's lesser known villains to separate themselves from previous shows, and Alfred and Gordon almost like differently characters, so when the whole style is...bland... you need those familiar faces to draw you in. In this case all you had was Batman himself who was... there.

  • @austinrutledge7531
    @austinrutledge75313 жыл бұрын

    "Not a member of the Batfamily" While that is true, Katana was an original member of the Outsiders, a team Batman put together. So it's not absolutely out of left field. That being said, if they wanted to use someone other than Robin, they had other choices: Jean-Paul Valley(Azrael), Cassandra Cain(as Batgirl or Black Bat), Stephanie Brown(As Spoiler, or hell, make her the 1st Robin in this continuity), or even Bette Kane(have her be Flamebird, and you can introduce her aunt Kate). I also really dug some of the reinventions to the villains. Professor Pyg obviously had to be changed, but he and Mister Toad are pretty funny. Killer Croc really got to shine as a serious threat. And I'd compare the Magpie episode to Heart of Ice for how well it reinvents a previously stupid villain. Also, Red Foreman as Gordon was a perfect casting choice. Overall, I really enjoyed Beware The Batman and I'm sad we never got a 2nd season to see Two-Face.

    random account I never said I love Moesha. I never seen it. Girlfriends I watched growing up, but I’ll be honest my memory of it isn’t great. I watched it on upn out of order so I’d like to sit and rewatch. The Parkers I will most definitely watch, I know a lot of people hate it but I really dug the case.

    This animation perfectly blends in batmans intelligence and physicality(also justice league doom) even movies cant do that in movies batman is seen as brute who beates shit out of criminal but not his detective and strategist aspect

    Ummm...wasn't Katana part of the Outsiders, who were mentored by Batman? Also, it's okay to not have the Joker early on in a Batman show so to establish other rogues that are in his gallery.

    I thought of the Alfred in this show as Jason Statham. Liked the idea of a badass MI6 Alfred.
