You have led a far too sheltered life. Buckee’s is a destination for everyone. We love them. Palm trees are in California, Arizona, Florida, Alabama on the coast. The fence is to keep the wild animals from going onto the highways. Telephone poles and lumber with the logs. Two of our children drive cross country semi trucks and are busy all of the time. The world is busy. Crepe Myrtles flower in August. The ones you saw with the thick trunks are very old. So glad you are having some good experiences.

The fence along the interstate is to keep forest critters from getting on the roadway. That would be raccoon's possums, Armadillo's, turtles anything that lives in the woods that would try to cross the highway.

Just had one open recently in Springfield,MO. Had never heard of them til shortly before they built the one here. Finally stopped to fuel up and get a beverage on the way home and see what it was like. Can’t figure out all the hype. We decided if we need to stop in the future, we will fuel up on the end where the soft drinks are located so we don’t have to walk through the store. Couldn’t get over the amount of money people were spending. To each his own. Just not for us. We did like the fuel price. That was the up side for us.

We stopped in the Springfield Buckees a few weeks ago, our first experience too. I wasn't impressed with the prices on the decor, but I did like lots of it. Fun signs and things. The only thing we walked out with was some beer. Then, a couple of weeks after that I rode with a friend who was returning her father to his house. I did end up spending money that trip. I was in a different mindset and found a few good car toys for the grandchildren. We haven't tried the barbeque because we had plans for the Whole Hog restaurant off I44.

Bc Florida is not a pass through state. Semis have to go there then turn around and come back. They don’t pass through one state to get to another. Plus they pick up merch that’s shipped to the coast then distribute to places like Montana.

I was cracking up at this video and the one from a few days ago. We live in North Central FL and our county has acres and acres of planted trees, both for harvesting the trees and for harvesting the pine straw. They used to use lots of them for poles, and now it's mainly for paper. The pine straw (pine needles used to mulch) is a great product and harvested each year. Yes, we have some cloudy days, but mostly we have sun, sun, and more sun. Glad you could visit even as I'm sorry you had a family emergency. Also, the fence is for keeping the wildlife off the highway.

Hi, as you traveled I10 between Panama City and Pensacola you saw signs for NAS Whiting Field and Milton. That's home for me. The walls in Pensacola are sound barriers. 50 Years ago all Palms were transplants, but not any more . I was allowed to dig up some monkey grass that grew beneath Palm trees. I mow down tiny palms every time I mow

The fences are to keep deer and other animals off the highway. You will see these in a lot of states. You’ll also see wildlife crossing above highways, in some places to give animals a safe place to cross. Basically a bridge over the highway for animals.

Pulp is made from trees for paper. Fences are to keep animals off the highway. There are many varieties of palm trees. Most native to Florida. I think the peanut is a bean, not a nut. The economy isn't great, but a lot of goods continue to be hauled. People still need what they need. There is no shortage of anything in any stores I go to. People are consumers.

Logs are for paper, mulch, etc. There may be tree farms nearby. Near Lufkin, Texas there is a paper plant and a few miles away is a forest that grows trees for the paper plant. Could be the fence you saw on I-10 was a forest of trees for paper .. you’d think we need less paper now days. Also some trees are sold for light poles

The reason they use water tanks, or some other wooden box by the road is because the garbage company doesn't supply a trash can. The trash guys hand take the trash out of the containers. This was how it was when we lived on a farm in West Virginia. We used a Rubbermaid storage box with a hinged lid. You have to try to keep the animals out of the trash.

The only thing I use Squid for is to make calamari but it does have other preparations in Mediterranean style cooking. It is a fairly inexpensive protein and it is easily caught if you live near the ocean.

The truckers are delivering to Florida, a great red state. Remember Florida did not shut down during COVID. Now with NYC and CA problems, lots of businesses moved to Florida. Many folks following the jobs to Florida. The Georgia pine is used for many things like furniture and pallets. I-40 through Tennessee is also a very busy truck route. I-10 across the south, I-40 across the middle and I-90 across the north when traveling east to west. We've taken each route multiple times in our travels. We prefer taking I-75 north to I-65 north to I-90 west. We prefer I-90 to I-10 or I-40. Although, the scenery is definitively diverse and beautiful. We're from Ft. Laud, FL and worked on Miami Beach for decades. We moved to SE (Ketchikan) Alaska for 5 years. Now we are in E Tennessee where the grand children are. Military brats as well. Grew up traveling. Nurses now. Still love traveling. I'm glad things are looking up for your family. I'm still sorry it rained for days in Florida while you were there. Safe travels.

I love hearing what you think about the South and asking questions. Buc-ee's has the best brisket sandwich. Sometimes I just go to that one in Alabama on I-10 just for that. I live in Gulf Breeze, Florida, so not far from that one. 1-10 is a huge corridor from east to west so that's why you see so many trucks. If you drive I-75 south and north in Florida you see a lot of trucks headed to Miami and that's a big shipping port there. Jacksonville has a big port so trucks carry from there all across the U.S. Logging trucks usually do not travel too far. They are very dangerous to be near. Lots of accidents with those.

Continued prayers for you and your family. ❤I’m originally from New England but have lived in Florida many years now . I never had boiled peanuts until I moved to Florida. You would probably like boiled peanuts better if you had them homemade. My husband buys raw peanuts from a produce farm stand type of store and boils them. He adds salt and crushed red pepper ( the pepper you add to pizza ) . His homemade peanuts are delicious. Bucee’s is definitely unique gas station/country store. The first time you go in one it’s wow 🤩. I like stopping there because they have something for everyone. My husband likes it ok but thinks it’s a tourist trap. You can easily spend lots of $$ at a Bucee’s . Though we do usually stop on a road trip because it has everything . Thanks for sharing your road trip . I love videos about travel and reviews of regional foods .

Palm trees do grow naturally in Florida but they like areas like the pine forest you saw running along I 95 or I75A couple of days ago. This is where your paper products come from.

There is a Bucees near our son in Texas. I don't get it personally. Tried the brisket. It was just ok. They did have some really good caramel popcorn. Just ok. As for the wood, maybe for paper?

❤Weyerhauser has huge tree farms for lumber, veneer, furniture, and other things. Telephone poles, fence poles, wood pulp for making paper.

The boiled peanuts from the convience store come from a can. If you see someone selling them by the side of the road get those.

Those white tanks are often used for water storage but at a curb unsure. Could be bad water so get a tankful delivery.

That is how it is going to Fla from Ohio and back home again. So many semi’s. I wish they had their own road. This is from someone whose husband has driven a semi most of his life.
