    As good as Jeff Burton was behind the wheel, what NASCAR really needs is someone like him in the Front Office, making decisions on the future of the sport. His commitment to safety and competition would make him the best President the sport has ever had, in my opinion.

    the worst call nascar ever made was the playoff system… having a point lead after 26 races be wiped out to give the guys in 10th place a shot at the title is an abomination. A season should make a champion.

    This is why f1 is getting popular in the states. Nascar isn't paying attention. Let's make it one race takes all with 0 clue the super bowl of racing is daytona 500. A complete failure. Let's add stages and completely throw out strategy. The thing that makes a super compelling storyline smh.

    I have always been a HUGE Jeff Burton fan!! I met him in 2005 in Atlanta when I won the Cingular contest to spend a weekend at the track in a motorcoach and get to meet him. When the girls that were in charge of the contest found out I was an actual Jeff Burton fan they were even happier I won. My daughter and I were getting our stuff out of the car. I was walking around the back of the motorcoach and when I looked up they had gone and got Jeff. I was in shock and shaking, lol. Before I knew it he had reached down and grabbed my suitcases and took them on the coach for me. He spent about 20 mins with me. Gave me autographs and took a picture with me. He is a class act to this day!!

    I love Jeff but there is 2 difference between the drivers 20 years ago and the drivers of today. #1 they never had to prove themselves in inferior equipment. Most of them are farmed and put in top notch equipment. #2 Respect for that equipment. Maybe it's because I was a crew member once but many drivers today destroy racecars that don't have to.

    The simple fix to that Gordon thing would’ve been to heavily penalize the MWR cars eliminating them from the playoffs. It ended up being Truex getting screwed and Bowyer getting in when Bowyer was the one doing the manipulation.

  • @David-qi1ys

    @David-qi1ys

    Жыл бұрын

    And yet it's not manipulation when Jr. spun himself out to DIRECTLY benefit from it HIMSELF, now is it? Certainly not worth a penalty, just an "aw, shucks" and a rule patch for the future. F*** NASCAR. "Free passes for the golden boys!" "Here's your pass Jr. Here's yours Jeff. Bowyer, Vickers, and Truex? The three of you combined don't have the fanbase either of those drivers have. Here's a new record high penalty for race manipulation! For shame!" Some pleb "But sir, I, and millions of others, saw someone dip below the yellow line." Mike Helton, Brian France and crew proceed putting on their BEST Sergeant Schultz impression.

    It’s EASY to see how Jeff Burton would be seen by his peers as ‘The Mayor’, or as someone they’d appreciate speaking on their behalf. He isn’t one that’s always running his mouth about any & every thing of the moment. He’s respectful. He’s approachable. He’s considerate. He’s articulate. When he speaks out about something, it’s a well thought out and well framed argument. Frankly, when he says something - it’s not stupid. Not to sound as if I’m delivering a ‘Jeff Burton commercial or anything, but if I were a driver or was in some other part of the NASCAR community, I would feel quite comfortable with Jeff Burton speaking on my behalf. I’d CERTAINLY be aware that I could do worse.

    The current system is lame BECAUSE you could IN THEORY win the first 35 races of the Cup season and then LOSE the championship at Phoenix. I would go back to the how the points system was during the Winston Cup era with only the change of adding more points for race wins & points for winning poles as well & hell they could even keep the stages too BUT auto racing should be one where the best driver over the course of the entire season is the champion same as how it is in most other series like Formula 1, IndyCar, IMSA etc etc etc...

Yes make the sport safe but please no driver unions, committees, whatever.
