D310, deeper bass. R41M, nice highs and cleaner sound.

Wow! Thank you for putting out this comparison video so quickly. I am quite surprised on how close these two are in the upper registers. Okay, came back for another listen. Over the last year or so I have purchased 3 pairs of R41M to give a gifts and they are a lot of FUN to listen to for 2ch audio and I like em even for 2ch H.T. However, in this A/B I prefer the D310 overall. Now about price, last year Crutchfield ran a sale on the D310's for about $169/pr and now they are $199/pr. I have been able to get new R41M's for $110/pr so it becomes a matter of taste and perceived value for the roughly $90 dollar difference.

Klipsch favor treble and produces wide open sound with every details; Wharfedale sounds stronger bass but suffocated. Should go for Klipsch undoubtedly

Feel compeled to add, while the RP41's bright lean and forward presentation isn't quite my cup of tea, they are an amazingly good small loudspeaker for the price. Bass doesn't suck, and they're clear as can be. Well built and good looking too.

This was a lot closer than I expected. The 310 is fuller and the R41 is thinner and has no bass, but they aren't as different as I thought they would be. I expected the mids on the Klipsch to be a lot more recessed, like on most Klipsch bookshelf models, with the RP500M being the major exception to that

The mids on the Wharedale are pulled back, recessed, not a bad thing but it can make the speaker sound a bit suffocated, as if the sound is in the box, however I think the right amp would help fix this and it may require more power to push the speakers in order to project the mids better, whereas the klipsch have that forward open, live out of the box sound but could benefit from some mid tone control to pull back or recess the mids on some songs.

Never thought I would say this, but the D310 sounds tired to the R-41M and that surprises me, big fan of wharfdale .

Continue with your amazing comparisons, really interesting. Do you have any b&w 686 or similar? Would like it A/B against d320( or prefer wharfedale 220 if you have it) or/and polk s20. Thank you!

  • @DougMen1

The 686 has been replaced by the 607, which is a lot more expensive than the Polk and Wharfedale, and the 220 is an older model too, with the 310 or the Diamond 12.0 being the closest ones now made

@@DougMen1 I understand. I just have the 686 s2 and it would be fun to see if the wharfedale 220 is a downgrade or an upgrade despite the price difference. 220 is still avaible to buy and ive seen people like them more than than the d320.

310s definitely a warmer speaker ,slightly more bass,Klipsh sound brighter, but i prefer a more laid back sound for my jazz listening ..would definitely get speaker fatigue with the latter !

I just installed the grills to see the difference on my D220`s same grills as D310 and it was like putting a thick blanket over the speaker? Multiple D310, D320 comparison done from E Project with grills on all are invalid.

Klipsch sounds so much better to me. Wharfedale sounds muffled in its highs. Klipsch is so clear with treble. I was able to spot which is which easy because of this one factor.

It all depends on the person's taste really, If you like speakers that sound like their is a blanket over them then go for the wharfdales , and if you like your speakers a little brighter with superior treble then go for the klips .. They would be my choice, Bass is subjective in my opinion

Many people here take boosted high frequencies for detail and clarity. Far from it. The Klipsch go full assault on your eardrums in less than half an hour of listening to it.
