    I've done cool stuff with a smokey Joe but the the regular one isnt as portable as the one that has the carry ring but no bottom vent. This one can be clamped shut and has a bottom vent and ash catcher. Big upgrade. Just made a bunch of chicken on it! Still figuring some stuff out.

    I bought this as my first propane grill. It's been a fun, learning experience kzread.infoUgkxCx5fHawkK9OoV-ojFrY8JLnZrFwAmvUt . I think it's a bit too pricey after looking at other grills, but it wasn't hard to put together and it works really well. I love the side burner option for heating food during a power outage. I have an electric stove and live in the South (Hurricane season), so this was a bonus. I also bought a cover for it and it has protected it nicely (the Char Broil All-Season Grill Cover 3-4 Burner: Large). Every few grill sessions, I take the rack (or grate) and burner covers off and clean them with a non-abrasive scrubby and mild soap. I wipe the excess off of the bottom as well, taking care to avoid the gas and pilot lines.

    Does the Weber Jumbo Joe have an ACTUAL 18-INCH GTRATE? I have a Slow 'n Sear Travel kettle that they market as an 18-inch grate. I measured my cooking grate and it measures just about 17 1/4 inches. My 18 inch grate from my Kamado Joe Classic is actually 18 inch. I can't use an 18 inch grate on the SnS Travel Kettle since you can't even close the lid. I'm ready to dump the Travel Kettle and buy a Jumbo Joe if the grate is actualy 18 inches. I thought of contacting you and hopefully let me know if the Jumbo Joe grate is actuall 18 inhes. I enjoy your videos and I'm a follower of your KZread site. Thanky in advance and keep your videos coming.

    One thing to remember with these portable Weber Grills is that if you're taking it somewhere else like camping, make sure you take off the legs and put them inside then lock down the lid with the handle. I also put some crumpled up newspaper in there while travelling so that the grill and ash catcher don't bang around inside. The reason why you want to remove the legs (and I found this out through experience) is that if you're going over any bumps, the grill jumps up and down and the legs get bent out of shape. It might seem simple to get them bent back properly but since there are three legs to get bent, they all get bent differently! To make removing the legs easier and not have to bring along a flat head screwdriver, I'm going to put some small nuts on the screws that hold the legs, then tighten them down. That way I only have to spin off the wingnuts and off I go! Other than this one thing (that was actually my fault), this is a great little grill!

  • @PostalBarbecue

    @PostalBarbecue

    Great question. Because it is porcelain coated you don’t need to season it but I would let it run for a bit with some coals in it to burn off anything from the manufacturing process. You are going to live the jumbo Joe. I take mine everywhere!!! Love it , one of my favourite grills.

    As far as a portable grill goes, I'm not sure you can do any better than a Jumbo Joe. I've been using the same Smokey Joe for about 12 years now and it's been worth every penny, think it was $29 new when I bought it?? Has more than come in handy and it's been great for those nights where I want to grill a steak, a baked potato and some corn on rhe cob and I'm eating by myself. Only needs a couple pounds of coal to get the job done and honestly it's so easy to get the Smokey Joe up to high Temps to perfectly sear a nice ribeye. It's been a nice reliable grill when I don't feel like firing up the 22" Performer or my 26" hoss of a grill but since I've been missing out on a nice medium sized 18" grill, the Jumbo Joe should fill that void nicely and I can take it along for those weekend fishing trips. I've never seen one in action but you can never go wrong with a good ole Weber

  • @PostalBarbecue

    @PostalBarbecue

    3 жыл бұрын

    Honestly, this is my first choice hands down for portability/versatility. I take this all over the place to cook thing like wing, to ribs, to roasts and even hot dogs.. I feel like the Go Anywhere you are more limited in your cooking just because it doesn't have the cooking space. That said, for me this fits my needs, for you it might not and that's what important... having a grill for your purposes so we can cook great food.. Keep me posted on how you are enjoying the Go Anywhere. Cheers bud.

    I had been contemplating getting a Jumbo Joe to take on camping trips. Now that I know there's a Slow 'n Sear that fits it, I'm probably going to be getting one soon. Is the grate you were using for the cold grate technique the one that comes with the Jumbo Joe, or an Adrenaline Barbecue grate? Just trying to get an idea of how much it'll all end up costing in the long run.

  • @PostalBarbecue

    @PostalBarbecue

    6 жыл бұрын

    You are going to love it Jay. The grate is the standard Jumbo Joe, Adrenaline doesn't make an 18'' yet. That said the way the grate spins on the bowl means it will work great with the cold grate technique. That being said because it is the standard weber grate know that at some point it will rust out and need to be replaced. So in total this exact setup was: Jumbo Joe, 18'' Slow 'N Sear and my handy Napoleon bbq tools. All the links to everything is in the description for you.. Hope that helps with your planning.

    Alex G. There is a difference between dark grill marks and Maillard reaction grill marks do that but if they get too dark they can actually burn the meat. Spinning the grate to help keep it cooler will give a full seat on the steak meaning full Maillard reaction giving better flavor.
