Beacuse this is not samurai,it’s combination of Shogun and Samurai that’s why it has bezel, hands and dial from Shogun and case from Samurai. It’s called Shogurai!!! It’s strange decision from Seiko beacuse Shogun is the most premium ordinary Seiko,I paid mine 1800$.

I don't think it should be considered as a upgraded edition, but as a new re-intepretation of the original "Samurai" from 2004. It doesn't come with sapphire or ceramic bezel, like the "King Samurai" series from 2020.

The finishing / brushing on the handset looks extremely rough and “cheap” and together with the cheap looking chapter ring really lets the new design down imho. The current King Samurais have a beautifully finished (polished) steel ring between the ceramic bezel and the sapphire crystal. It is a tiny design detail which just makes the watches look so much classier. The new ones appear to have lost this polished ring. It is a small detail that some owners may not have consciously noticed, but once you notice the polished ring, you realise the lift it gives the watch and hence the importance if this seemingly minor design detail.

I'm mostly disappointed in the hands. Man, i really liked the monster hands. Maybe they could've just made them smaller but not an entirely different one. It does look like the tip of a samurai sword though, but not sharp.

Seiko really needs to give up on Hardlex on everything but their most basic "Essential" watches. Anything over $350 should have sapphire. And they basically covers most of their lineup now. At $700 and I know Seikos are often sold below retail soon enough but it still sounds ambitious.

In no way would I call these an upgrade compared to the King Samurai. No sapphire, no ceramic and big price increase. Removing the sharp angular sculptural cuts from the watch case just takes away too much of the true Samurai character. Big no from me. Thanks for the great video though!

Continuing the Seiko heritage of innovation and design evolution, Prospex introduce a new diver’s watch, evolved from a combination of two popular Seiko designs. Nicknamed by fans for their unique case shapes, the ‘Samurai’ and ‘Shogun’ designs are popular Seiko models which are angular in shape and instantly recognisable. The new ‘Shogurai’ 4R Diver hybrid takes elements from both heritage designs, as well as adding modernised features. Aesthetically, the new model takes the steep angled lugs of the Shogun, razor-sharp as if modelled by a Samurai sword, and echoes the crown design of the Samurai model with the straight contours of both blueprints. In terms of size, the Shogurai is created with a compact 41.7mm diameter case and slim design for comfortable wearability. It has new sharp design features such as a date window at 4.5 o’clock, pointed hands, and a newly shaped bracelet. Compliant with the recognised ISO standard for professional diving watches, it features an in-house 4R35 movement with a power reserve of 40 hours. Prospex is a combination of the words ‘Professional’ and ‘Specifications.’ Seiko Prospex timepieces are designed to be practical, reliable and durable; to meet the high standards required in extreme environments for sports lovers and adventure seekers alike. 🕜 ✌🏻🧔🏻♂️🫱🏻🕜

@@earlbee3196 at first I thought you were joking about this Sho-gurai hybrid idea, but then I did a Google search and realise you weren’t joking. So effectively, Seiko has spent 20 years developing the Samurai line as an iconic pillar of the Seiko family, alongside distinctive legends like Sumo, Turtle, Tuna, SKX and Monster. And they appear to have now decided to blend the Shogun and the Samurai together for some unknown reason and lose the unique design elements that make each distinct and also appeal to different buyers. To make some kind of franken-hybrid bastard child. How could they think this is a good idea? It seems to me that Seiko are systematically trying to remove all the distinctive design queues from each of their watch lines and make each as plain-vanilla and generic (ie boring) and inoffensive as possible. Look at what they have done to the Sumo over the three generations - gradually squeezing out some of the very features that make a Sumo a Sumo (smaller bezel font size, smaller hour markers, slimmed down handset etc) Look at the MM200 and how that was reduced in size and made more generic looking. Same with the 62mas reinterpretations (SPB 051, 053 etc) - size reduced and personality squeezed out to become the 63mas lineup. They are effectively removing the features that give each line of Prospex watches their unique character/personality, look and feel. What is next? A Tuna without a shroud? Not sure where this will all end, but I dont think it will end well for Seiko - I think we are seeing the end of the Golden Age of Seiko.
