It's ludicrously bad, because it's not just an addiction or takes your mind off things - it lets you bury the hurt, enough Joy and enough time and you can completely forget. Forget about sacraficing your children to the Germans demands. The problem is twofold, because they take joy to feel happy, but also because if they stop taking joy and can remember, the trauma doesn't go away. It's just buried behind hallucinations and amnesia, where it festers. Wellington Wells is destined to die unless they go off of the Joy. Because Joy hides all of their problems from them. They don't feel the starvation gnawing at their innards or see the side affects of Joy, their problems will grow and multiply - Wellington Wells is one disease away from dying, because there will be no one who realises an outbreak is occurring.

I wouldn't have, she was one of the dozens of people willing to let nearly thousands starve to death, and yeah some would've been happy but with the constant batch of failed joys... too many people would've felt the pain. I honestly wish we could've locked her in the closet with her Joy so we can find out if Joy blocks the pain of starvation or if it can be too unbearable...let's hope for the later.

I am a PERSON well she has gone %100 insane

I feel like one of the only ones that actually likes Miss Byng as a character. Not enough of the playthroughs take time to examine all the notes that give insight into her circumstances. That emotion and her songs are so much more tragic if you think about her meanings rather than the player's skewed perspectives. [Spoilers] In my mind, the songs were a likely reflection of the relationship of her estranged, imprisoned mother, fuelled by her living with a distant and unloving father. She loses her own sorrows in joy, and develops the mask to normalise her exotic appearance (a cause of further isolation and lonliness for her, as she is seen as a wog and product of a foreign political marriage). In her mind, its the kindest thing to do, as it numbs the pain, twisted as it may be. We have already seen the bias of certain interactions based on perspective, and I beleive that she keeps the comittee situation secret as it would benefit no one to know the truth, and only cause pain and breakdown of society into chaos. Especially dangerous given the food shortage. So they eat rats and convince themselves its candy. A very out there idea is that she may also be operating ogainst higher authorities and merely plays along (as evidenced by her "do not send to clive" rant). In their final exchange, ollie has ruined her cover and masquerade, and may even be targetted by the green hat doctors, or red bobbies (they keep a keen watch over her). If that is true, she is desparate to escape and may get her mind forcefully wiped as a result, or even be killed. It really alters the tone of the "in a few hours I won't even know you exist", which in my opinion, was an incredibly odd line, and lingering open storyline for a main "antagonist" character

So essentially, In 1942 Germany leads an attack on Britain, which was repelled successfully. In 1943, Germany launches another attack, creating thousands of fake tanks and England, not knowing they're fake, surrenders before the fighting due to the apparent overwhelming numbers. Complying with all demands, Britain is annexed and drained of all resources; gasoline, iron, steel, bullets, food and any child over the age of 13. The children are willingly walked down to the train station by their parents, singing London Bridge is burning down. Its implicated that the children were used as a cheap source of labor in farms and trained as child soldiers to fight against the Soviet Union. In 1952 Joy is developed to combat the depression and melencoly experienced accross the country. Its never mentioned if Britain eventually found out the tanks were fake and this was the cause of the rampant depression, though it would explain why so many people actively took Joy and have difficulties remembering the past. In 1946-195? Germany leads an attack on russia under the guise of eliminating communism - its never mentioned who won but as of 1964, theres no apparent Germans in Wellington Wells. ------------ Character Story Spoilers ------------ Arthur was actually of the correct age to be taken by Germany and he had promised to take care of his brother. When he gets to the train station however, he gets scared; lying about his age by pretending to be his brother to a police officer. The officer doesn't seem to believe Arthur but ends up taking his story at face-value, stating "I'll be damned if i have to put another child on that train. Run along, now" and he's allowed to go home. Its clear Arthur is guilt-stricken from this; remembering the scenario as the Germans getting his birthday wrong, not that he had actively lied about his age to avoid going to Germany with his brother like he'd originally promised. Its heavily implied that because of the amount of Joy Arthur has taken over the years, his mind has been permanently altered to the point of seeing halucinations - at the end, he's seen saying "Lovely day for it" to trees asif they were people. ------------------------------ Its an unfinished synopsis i've wrote but it gives you a general idea.. They leave alot unanswered, *but my opinion is that Germany lost against the Soviet Union and left England to die after being drained of most its resources*

AndroidPorn true but still they use joy as a crutch to keep them from falling on the truth they keep trying to reinforce their crutch eventually that crutch will fall and it’s going to hurt more the longer the truth is kept the best thing they can do is soften the blow and give people other than forget me pills to help them coupe that’s all they need is a safer coping mechanism.

Its a nice mix of 1984 and Brave New World but what makes it different is the 3 characters and how they deal with their world.

Now, if there was a scene where a man kicked a woman in the crotch instead? Ohhh boy, there would be articles around every corner of the Internet.
