I genuinely feel sorry for Victoria. She was as much a victim as everyone else.. she always had the best intentions for the people but she went about it the wrong way... and in the end when she does the right thing she's condenmed.

It's funny that you never see the other survivors once the camera exits first-person perspective, and it instead focuses entirely on Victoria. You'd think that, given you've been doing all of this for the people, like it or not, you'd be able to see them instead of just yourself. Really adds to the grey morality of this epilogue chapter. You've undeniably done the right thing by destroying the Joy production, but in doing so you've plunged Wellington Wells into a death spiral, become a pariah, and the only hope Victoria has left is in India, and even that's just a 'maybe' thing. Maybe you did it for yourself more then the others, to soothe your guilty conscience. After all, had Victoria kept off her Joy earlier, she could've caught the problems before it all came to the slavish dependence on Joy seen in We Happy Few proper. Maybe she could've managed to import food or begin growing quantities sufficient to keep the populace fed, or organized teams to help repair the infrastructure. But addled as she was, there wasn't any thought of that crossing into her head, not until it was too late. But, at the same time, Joy wasn't ever meant to be a forever thing, just a way to help cope with the worst of the pain. This would've happened eventually, even if not as explosively, but rather with the last of the addicted dying off from hunger or plague. At the very least, those few left won't join the dead, as what would have happened had Haworth not been destroyed by this point. What's more, with Wellington Wells now firmly established as dead and gone, perhaps Joy's dead with it now, finally removing the last specters of the war from the Earth, even if only for those who remain. Who knows?

That makes me think. What if Joy SURVIVED? Since there was a trading system, what if it reached another place, travelling the plague with it? I don't even know if it can . Likely not, but I just wonder. Even without the plague, wouldn't they share the Joy with other parts?

Biggest flaw is oddly a small, aesthetic thing: In the last cut scene, they should have altered Victoria's character model - made her clothes ragged and put some injuries on her face to show what she's been through; she couldn't pass for happy now if she tried.

@@Golems_victory But you need to understand is "Why did Germany took the children?" They took young children to serve as hostages so the brits would stay in line. The ingame cutscenes show us that Arthur trick his brother into entering the train. And not only that but he has NO identification leaflet. So it more then likely they will treat him as one of the kid as the officers responsible want to meet up with their children quotas. But for his brother personally even if he survives the train and "magically" escapes, but what will he do now? He stuck in Western or Eastern Europe probably trying to figure out what happend. And I'f he were to come in contact with a German Platoon (If the train stopped in France or Germany.) They probably ask him a couple of question and mostly leave him to survive. Or if they are generous can give him extra rations. But if he were to come in contact with a Russian Platoon (Which is more likely) then there without a chance accompanied by a NKVD officer and would probably too ask but if he speaks English then he'll probably detain him to the gulag where he'll die of starvation. And to further say, he couldn't speak properly and would make things confusing.

One thing that never made sense about We All Fall Down is that she got chased for being a Downer even though she was trying to go and take her Joy. Miss Byng is an important lady supported by the General, why in the world would the Bobbies not be aware of what Ollie Starkey had done? I could imagine an alternate ending where Miss Byng managed to take her joy but ultimately the thoughts of what she remembered and saw whilst off it keep haunting her. She goes on a path of investigating the Executive Committee and finds out what is happening, starts opening trade with the outside world after convincing Verloc that there will be no one to use his products with people starving at the rate they are. Ultimately We Happy Few could have come to a somber end where a group of well dressed Wellies face a group of ragged people on the bridge and invite them inside Wellington Wells in return for the food they bring.

it's also a case of choosing a quick death or a slow one. since Joy or not, the town was doomed to starve to death, slowly and painfully. even if half the town commits suicide from Joy withdrawal, at least their suffering is over. one way or another, their escapist fantasy had to end. they came to the end of their time, the end of an age. the age of denial and artificial happiness.@@ultimatecorgi3392

you know, Britain in this game is in a terrible state of affair. not just Wellington Wells, but all of Britain. and with the cold war still happening between the United States and the Soviet Union, kinda makes me wonder why neither the Americans or the Russians tried to push their influence into the UK. hence the whole Wastrel saying "where are the Americans?? where are the Russians??". it makes me wonder too since in reality one of those 2 nations, most certainly the US, wouldve gone in to rebuild it

The Germans probably installed a fascist regime in Britain. After the Germans lost the war, the regime might have survived, putting them in an akward situation. It's like Spain in the actual world: Fascist Italy and Germany helped the fascists win the Spanish civil war in the 1930s. Fascist Spain never joined the Axis powers directly, but they did support the German war effort. As a result Spain remained diplomatically isolated after WW2, devastating their economy. It took the fascist government a decade of isolation to realize that they had to open up their economy and liberalize so they could be a part of the global community again.

@@Simjorfeo I can back this up since in-game apparently the German occupation ended on August 10, 1949 since the United States and the Soviet Union attacked Berlin. The game takes place around October 1964, but by then the citizens of Wellington Wells had already been on Joy since 1953- 4 years after the Germans left. By then Colonel von Stauffenberg had already left ( I assume, since General Byng was left in charge) but he had the previous Wellington Wells government dissolved, and executed all of its members. He then created the New Executive Committee, which controls the healthcare, food imports, but most importantly the bobbies and joy. But I'm not sure if all of Great Britain would've been forced to go on Joy, especially since we see a child at the end of We Happy Few. Considering that Joy is a contraceptive as well, it would've been been impossible for a child to be born and live to be 10 years old unless the majority of Great Britain was not on Joy ( the kid might've been born in the 1950s). Remember that Joy was only created because of The Very Bad Day, where all children under the age of 13 in Wellington Wells were deported to Germany.
