I really like the lyric: "Even the sky wouldn't dare to be blue." It represents how the people of wellington wells hate sadness so much that they manufacture happy pills and change the environment. It also literally represents how if, let's say the sky was sad, wellington wells wouldn't put up with it.

I always thought it was just that their city was so fucked up that the sky was polluted to the point of no longer being blue. However, everyone's so hoped up on joy that they think it's a good thing.

"If our town's burning down in a rainbow of hues, Even the sky wouldn't dare to be blue." This line gets me every time. Usually blue skies are a good thing, a sign of happiness. But in this dystopia, its meaning has been flipped on its head. Citizens are discouraged to feel what we normally perceive as "happy". To us, the destruction of this nightmare would be a good thing, and anyone who doesn't take their joy easily sees that. I haven't even played this game and this line gives me chills. Now I just want to play it.

But corpses does make the soil increase in quality, you just need to dice the bodies up well enough, and you could always help out by putting the bodies in septic tanks as well, after all, it's better to dissolve the bodies first after all, then you don't have to waste time cutting and dicing when you could just let nature help out, and afterwards your roses will look amazing. My interest in this game keeps growing from these amazing songs that have been coming out in the last week, and I think after listening to this one I'm finally gonna drop some money on getting it! The visuals as always are on point (I especially like the masks in the costume areas and the psychedelic flowers in the skies), the audio is very 60s and really nails the Beatles style, and having Dan finally appear in one of your videos after it being semi teased for months on twitter was really nice to see too! I won't be needing any joy pills to get a smile from this video :P

The concept is amazing, sadly the actual game play and quality is a bit lacking. Especially after they got funding from a real AAA publisher. Instead of a good published game, they just rushed something that should of still be in early access and charged 60 bucks for it.

I think my favorite line would have to be Even the sky wouldn't dare to be blue. Just, wow. Top notch right there, it gets so much across with so little, setting, story, horror. Oh the horror. It's like that sentence long horror story but it's even shorter!

Agreed. New one isn't bad, but this one is better in my opinion. The vibe, the tune, everything is just more in line with what you'd expect from We Happy Few itself.

Actually If you listen carefully to chorus you can hear not just "It's a Joy" but also a "Consume Joy" as background, which perfectly merge with "It's a Joy". Stupendium is genius.

This channel is more addictive than joy

It’s been another two years, so imma comment again, I still love this song.🎉

What I like most about this song is that, while it does have dips into the 'downer' territory, it doesn't constantly flip flop between them like most others, it consistently shows what those on joy experience, with only occasional glimpses behind the curtain.

Every time i see a new song i instantly add it to my playlist, your quality in every song is unparalleled and it really makes each one feel special. I dont care how long it takes I will always wait for one of your new songs, keep up the amazing work!

this versus the 2021 remake is the difference between a music class project and a song made by a professional band

these videos honestly keep me going, to see people showing the same passion for games as i do makes me feel accepted, my real life friends at school judge me for whenever i talk about my favourite games too much, they say its annoying, but to see this means that im not alone and people love these games as much as i do, as someone who loves to make art and writing poems about videogames that make me feel something whether it be sadness or terror, it makes me happy to know that my stuff is gonna be liked by at least one person, ik you probably wont see this but i just needed to vent, but if you are seeing this, then i just want to thank you so much for letting me know that im not alone and its fine to enjoy videogames and nerd out about them

wow comming back to this one you can really see how The Stupendium evolved and got better over the years. While this one isn't bad having heared the renewed version of it it feels a bit like this is kind of see and feel how this one was the framework for it and it sounds like that. A framework for what yet was to come

my by far favourite line here has got to be "if you're not enjoying it, what is the point of you?" it's just said with such sincere desperation to grasp... why you exist? such confusion, even irritation, at the idea that someone could ever be dissatisfied by the world of this setting. which captures so much in such a short moment, and after that very aggressive build up to it, of them all coming around their corners to tell you to keep taking your Joy. what a joy!

Listened to the remaster and now listening to this, I definitely see the improvements, but this one still has my joy filled heart!

You're consistency gives me such high expectations that after first listen I feel like it's one of my least favourites of yours, the I have to listen to it again because it's in my head, and it becomes one of my favourites of yours...for every song, all of your songs are my favourites of yours. And they get better with each listen. It may be in the 10s in times I've come back to this one in such small time. Keep it up. You are literally pumping out channel sellers with every song, and I'm sure every other channel doing similar things would dream of that.

Here in 2021 watching for a comparison to the remaster haha

I like how the main guy is actually "viewing the world through rose-tinted glasses". That's a nice touch

There are so many layers and such depth to this song! It's amazing the range you have in terms of how different and awesome all your songs can be! :D

I listened to this in 2018 when the song had just come out. Now I’m back and it’s 2021, to remember the days when life was easier than what the hell we have now and to be among we happy few once again

I was recently recommended your songs and the 2021 remaster of this song was one of the first I heard. I listened to it enough to basically memorize it and a bunch of little details it has. After about a week of exclusively listening to it, I came here to hear the original and WOW I'm glad you remastered it. It feels so different in way too many ways but I'm glad you keep old versions of songs up to show how much you've grown in song production.

It's interesting revisiting this after having gotten used to the remastered version. I now prefer the remaster for its stronger percussion, tighter lyrics, and what sounds like better recording equipment (the improvements are impossible not to hear, especially in the chorus harmonies). That said, I think I hear what I liked about the original too. There are some subtle little background melodies in parts of that first version that are either removed or covered up in the remaster, which is a small shame. They helped add to that mood of a quaint little town with something very very wrong just under the surface. Also, in the remaster it sounds like you added a little spooky reverb and extra echoy vocals behind the spoken word portions. I think it's an improvement that does contribute to that unsettling, manic vibe I mentioned, if coming at the slight cost of making the words a little harder to understand (Dan Bull's verses were slightly clearer in the original for the same reason). Still, the subtitles help with that, and overall I still vastly prefer the remaster. It's just cool to go back and hear that yeah, there are some small differences that make the original worth revisiting every now and then. 👍

The part about the empire falling is sooo good

The first few times I listened to this song, I didn't love how the 'Joy' in the chorus sounded, but after listening to it more I realize that's the point. It's supposed to sound off. Also I don't remember enough guitar to be sure but if those are actually the chords being played at the beginning, that is amazing.

More Danbull collabs when? They're always legendary. Both collabs for Frostpunk are amazing.

I have only now rust realized there is a line from the lyrics that talks about the sad Keanu meme. XD

Funny how this just got recommended again to me for some reason. It's funny this and the "Any time you Smile" song by JT music really made this game seem better than it was. Given they were both composed before the game came out on alpha footage and dev promises it's no surprise. Makes me sad to remember how hyped up we all were when this first came out.
