We Happy Few is the tale of a plucky bunch of moderately terrible people trying to escape from a lifetime of cheerful denial in the city of Wellington Wells. In this alternative 1960s England, conformity is key. You’ll have to fight or blend in with the drug-addled inhabitants, most of whom don’t take kindly to people who won’t abide by their not-so-normal rules.
Discover the retrofuturistic city’s dark history as you play through the intertwined narratives of three quietly rebellious citizens of Wellington Wells, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, as they face their pasts, prepare for the future, and engage in activities that aren’t exactly status quo in the artificially enthused society.

What happened was when it was released Australia (where i live) banned it for educateing kids to take drugs but it then was proven that that reason was barbaric and that we happy few should be allowed in australia luckly it was just around the time i got it for my b day.

I haven't played the game yet, but it seems like it implies that downers waking up happens often. So, they are used to it. Sure, it's annoying to have everyone alerted at the same time, but it is somewhat realistic whether or not the player likes it. Just by looking at it, I still think it needed more time in the oven before it came out, but it looks fun. I might consider getting it if it's on sale or if it goes to a subscription service like Game Pass.

Sir, or maam. This is the most reddit tier comment I read this day. Also that "good idea" is executed the most cliche way humanly possible, not to mention the idea itself milked to the six feet under much before. The problem is not colorful distopias. The problem is they all look the same. They are either Hong Kong, London, or Los Angeles. About plot and setting, there are at least 3 episodes similar to this, just with 10th doctor that I can remember. Not to mention, the lore of this game is very problematic and illogical by its nature.

Bring it up with the developer, not some random god damn youtuber who likes something you don't. Glad to see a dissenting opinion on the game. I still would rate it as "wait for a good sale" just like ACG did, and I say that as a kickstarter backer. It's not that I think it's complete shite, just that it's a letdown given how good the game could've been with more optimization and ironed out kinks. I'll probably go back and give it another shot with some of your insight in mind. I was probably just clouded by my salt when I first booted up the full release.

The stealth is a bit worse than you let on. You can use that bottle to distract after you've been caught. If you're being chased crouch and toss a bottle behind them. They'll turn around and you're right back to invisible. You can also sometimes get away with smashing a bottle into one NPC's faces and they'll lose aggro. They just turn to face whatever cheek you hit them on. The game is a bit of a mess tbh. I think the biggest issue is that this game relies heavily on immersion to tell its story and it's hard to be immersed as an NPC jogs off to space at 4fp while some cockney chap goes on about the weather while you break open a phone booth for loose change in broad daylight only to be assaulted because you were caught crouching a few blocks over and one of the NPC's finally worked his way to the area you're in but immediately forgets because you had a bottle to toss into the middle of the street.

Thorson Wong I hated two things in this game and stopped playing it because of them. First is that once you get caught in the city, game is over man. Endless cops will chase you and every mo fu that is not a cop will kill you too. Second problem is that you have to travel on foot way too much. Why the heck the city in the middle doesn't have fast travel. Once I came back from that place, I was still catching my breath. The character said oh I need to get something from mommy's house. I open the map and try to locate mommy's house, guess where it is, in the fucking village I get came from which by the way has no fast travel. However, I refuse to buy a game that is alright at best and marred by bugs at worst while backed by a major publisher, costing 60 bucks and havng a mothertrucking season pass! See, that's why people got so riled up about it! It asks for a fair bit of dosh while putting itself in a position where it has to be judged by triple AAA standards while being months away from finished! For me, that's a no-buy on principle.

I remember I played a ton of the Early Access and had a blast with it. I loved exploring the world and doing all of the missions because each of them to me were unique and different in their own respect. The game didn’t run too well, sure. But I didn’t hold it against it really. (I’m fairly patient when it comes to low frame rates in a game like this, but that’s just a me thing) I loved this world that was around me, it was a jolt of imagination for me at the time. When it fully released I loved the game! It was much more polished than its early access counter part. The majority of people I saw bashing this game were people who said that the game was not worth $50, I disagreed. The game was long in nature, it took time to complete. And I found that when I rushed things, I had a whole lot less fun than when I was out and about exploring. People didn’t see why it had a season pass, but mind you, that season pass came along with three different DLC’s that didn’t play like the core game itself. Each DLC has its own interesting story and mechanics, featuring iconic characters from the campaign, such as; James and Roger, Nick Lightbearer, and Victoria Byng. Each DLC has its own level design adjusted to fit the mechanics of the game, from puzzles to combat, it has it all. So yeah I sunk money into a good game, god forbid, right?

I had high hopes for this game but I have a few problems with it that makes me want to wait for a really deep sale for this. First, the $60 AAA price tag that Gearbox decided to add after the game's early access phase and that too a Season Pass which I'm pretty sure wasn't a feature in EA. Where I live, thanks to regional pricing, I can pre-order two copies of Metro Exodus Gold Edition with some leftover money(to buy Deus Ex Mankind Divided+dlcs if you pay a little extra) instead of We Happy Few's Base Game+Season Pass. Seriously, this is the second biggest rip off this year after Jurassic World Evolution. Second, if I'm paying a $60 price tag, I expect performance similar to that of any AAA dev. Despite Bethesda's normally bad rep, I didn't experience any major performance issues with Fallout 4 on release on my GTX 960 2gb. But seeing that a 1080 gpu is struggling to run a game that hardly looks demanding, I'm shocked. In any immersive sim, stuttering, frame skipping are the most jarring things to experience while playing. Even with Dishonored 2(which still runs like crap) at least has some kind of consistent performance. I'm sure the devs would polish the game up over the years and improve the performance, combat and other niggles but at it's current asking price, I'll pass.

Honestly, beyond the technical problems, it's actually a unique little game. If enough fan patches come out, there's no doubt this will go down as a cult game up there with Vampire the Masquerade.

Got this on sale for 15.99 and loving it so far, pretty damn good price too, and the original price is still 79.99... I still think they should lower it down a bit like around 39.99 or 29.99.

I’d like to see a game where the “Too Perfect Utopia” has no secret downside or dark secret and genuinely is perfect and you end up becoming the villain. The utopia would probably have to be populated by aliens since humans tend to fuck up a lot and can’t be happy unless someone else is suffering

I really liked the first act then got bored immediately upon starting the second and haven't played it since. Have absolutely no clue why I just stopped caring completely. Have had no urge to try again since either.

Personally I think I'll wait for it to go on sale for half off (which might happen around the holidays, and by then they'll likely have patched some of the bugs and performance issues). The setting and stories do have me interested, it just doesn't sound like it's worth the current $60 price.

Some do, but not all. It’s a weird mixed bag. The studio grew exponentially as the game was developed over 4 years.

What if there was a ‘Jack the Ripper’ skill that gave you a slight Joy boost without threat of overdosing each time you strangled an NPC? Considering it’s a British old-timey game I think that would fit pretty well

Not a fan of the early access they release a game in a bad state and make us wait a few years and finally they release it in still shitty state sure bugs are fixed. can't you design the word? procedurally generated worlds is just lazy especially when you have 2 years of early access on your hand. going around the world and seeing the same buildings makes immersion hit a new low.

NiggAndreas In general I agree, though it's never good to go in superlatives and say *every* early access is bad. There were some good ones that did the trick they were supposed to

Early Access is just a thing where you can play the Game while it's developed. If you take a Game of GTA series, you wouldn't be seeing new buildings, because you already seen them in the Developed state. And i don't think that "procedurally generated" Games are bad or "lazy", just because it's made in 2 years or some other reason. F*ck Minecraft, Diablo, Rust, L4D, Elite Dangerous, Starbound and many more games. Lol dose were really lazy Games

I'm playing in 2022 and it's frustrating how much potential the game has, but messes it up in a few key ways. The random bugs are hilarious to me, my favorite being when you're walking towards an area where NPCs are supposed to be there doing something, but one is missing. Then suddenly they'll go tearing by you in a sprint until they get to their position, then pretend like they were there the whole time. It's funny every time. The biggest problem for me is in looting things. You can loot a garbage can, get some stuff from it, then just walk around the block, come back 20 seconds later and it's restocked with new stuff. It basically gives you unlimited stuff to loot because everything regenerates so fast.
