We Found Endless Water (Without Electricity) - Part 1

I want my land to be a legacy for my children and grandchildren. I am building resiliency here to get more with less so this can be a place that can support my grandchildren. The next step in building resiliency is harvesting water from our natural springs.

Gathering the spring water is great. Get your boys an apprenticeship to seriously learn these skills, you're keeping it local too! Can you install another green barrel or 2 on the down hill spring aspect? I'm glad the diet has helped and you can have a bit of yogurt with fruit for gut health too.

Check your water supply even though it's natural. Off grid with Doug and Stacy did a talk on how even your well water can be hiding contaminants in it that should be filtered. Most natural water sources turn out to be safe, but it is a safety precaution to check. Just FYI.

When I went to an orthopedic surgeon for a consult for lower back and leg pain and clunking noises in my back, I told him that I wanted to continue running. He just shook his head and recommended walking. Try using a Fitbit Charge 4 and getting 7500 steps a day and some Fatburner zone minutes (about 30?). You might be already getting that much. Now I walk and swim and cut grass with a push gasoline mower.

You’re still younger mate with a young family. No now, does not mean no tomorrow. Just keep good relationships with your neighbors and always let them know your dream and why you are looking to expand. Save money so when the time comes you can purchase the land. You may have to go a few miles away, but that is not far when your kids are driving. 2 to 3 miles down the road is just a nice walk away still if you expand that far away.

Great news about the water, that is going to save you so much time and effort each day. Sorry to hear that running was causing your feet to hurt, I found getting a gait analysis at a running shop helped me enormously as the running shoes I was wearing weren't suitable. I guess it depends on the exact issue you are having but hopefully you can come back to it soon, seemed like you were really excited to give running a go. Good luck with it.

I don't know if this will be helpful but there are times where eating too much calcium including too much milk yogurt cheese can cause calcium to build up on your bones and wherever you put most pressure in your heel or bottom. of the foot can cause some form of foot pain if you can maybe drink less milk products for a bit I think it can help.

I am sharing this video with my husband. We bought our homestead 18 months ago. There is a spring well 1/3 mile up the road that feeds our outside hydrants. It was unused for a few years. Last year we got some water to run but the hydrants need to be replaced, as they appear to have froze w water in the lines. But providing water to our livestock, water that is readily available, with the use of gravity and an initial pump to get the siphon started, we NEED to utilize this more! Thank you for reminding us of what is already there!!

I have a family of 10 and I keep feeling like 10 acres isn't enough, but seeing what you have done with your acreage gives me hope. We are still searching for our homestead property but I have dropped my acreage to 10 to see what comes up for possibilities. I am still hoping to find something we can afford that has more acreage, but I have hope that we can make it with 10 acres as a minimum. I love what you guys have been able to accomplish 🙌

One of the adjoining properties will come for sale by the time your kids are grown, so keep your powder dry for when it does. From the vegetation it looks like the spring is on the north side of the hill which is good, but it appears you have had a lot of moisture so it probably is a wet weather spring. Nothing wrong with that but may not be dependable all year during dry times. It will be great when it is running though.

Right now, all three of my adult children are breaking my soul with the poor choices they're making. They were raised much like you are raising your children. Drugs were not on our radar. The problems didn't start until they were adults, out on their own. Maybe we didn't prepare them for the anxiety and hardships that just come with life. Well you can't just START running and running fast. You have to ease into it and up your fitness level. It takes about 14 days to do that if you run like 2-3 times a week. And by run I dont mean like 4-5 km/min speeds... noway start slower 7-8 min/km... like a light jog. Interval running is very good too
