Good to know that, I have seen video of young Muslim lady performing the lion dance, that is so cool. Malaysia Boleh!
This brought back wonderful memories for me of my first Chinese New Year in Malaysia. Being the most European member of my husband's family and being welcomed into the extended family's home for Chinese New Year, I was very overwhelmed and emotional. They welcomed me with such love and kindness and were so happy to explain the meanings behind all the different foods and traditions. The tossing of the Yee Sang salad is one of my favourite parts of the celebration and still is now 20 years later.

Malaysians celebrate Chinese New Year like nowhere else, partly because of the weather - always hot. So everyone goes out a lot to family on first day, then relatives and friends. Because of 2 full public holidays and maybe more because of weekends. Many Chinese Employers will close for more days - once a year. Most festive and celebratory.

Malaysia have Chinese New Year open house concept because unlike their neighboring countries like Singapore or Thailand, Malaysia do not have any big public events for people to celebrate Chinese New Year. It will be very boring to have Chinese New Year in Malaysia if you are not invited to a Chinese house.
