We Build a Huge Roof - Part 2
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
This is second video of a project we are currently working on. The roof is covered with tiles and all the windows are installed. There are still a few details we have to complete in the following week and repair a few broken tiles from yesterdays storm which threw parts of the scaffolding onto the roof. With this job done, I can finally spend some time on my own house!:) Hopefully new videos are soon to come.. Back to this project.. We are sub contractors for "Kamgrad" company who is working on complete reconstruction of "Merkur" hospital. Our job is the roof structure. Old roof was completely removed and new glulam structure will replace it. More details throughout the video, just remember to turn the CC on for subtitles:)

With my immense knowledge 😂 I was amazed by all of the needed static and dynamic calculations needed “just” for the supporting beams and rafters and design it to proper safety and codes. Meanwhile I’m almost struggling with a simple cantilever wall. I’m sure that the calculations weren’t made using a reihenšiber 😂. Hat down and great respect for all involved.
I'm amazed that the tiles aren't secured with mechanical fasteners. Beautiful job as always :)

I have a tiled roof in Arizona. Only the bottom two courses and the top two courses on my roof are fastened. The ones in between just sit.

Its common in most European countries only the outer aswell as top and bottom rows need to be nailed or fixed with clamps

When we work at the coast, we use metal hooks or nails because wind speeds reach up to 200km/h regularly. Here not so much so it is not needed. Weight of tiles is enough. The largest storm ever since there are weather recordings, went trough the city a couple of days ago and not a single tile was lifted. Wind speed was clocked at 115km/h.
A roof that it will last forever because of this great work that you have done! All the best to you and your team! 👍👍👍

Love the CC which really helps to follow along. Very professional videos. No matter how many videos I have to watch, if I see a new one from Lignum, I watch it first. Thank you!

Absolutely beautiful work as always. It was actually really cool to see all of the details like the flashing, gutters, small pieces, etc. I thought you guys always worked to nice classical music, no? 😂❤

Glad you enjoyed it!😁 I tried making the first part without music, only work site noises and people generaly liked it. That is why the second part is also like that. Next video of my house will be accompanied by classical music for sure though.. 😀
Well done! Ventilation tiles at 9:17 are very important if you have freezing temperatures during the cold season, it allows condensation underneath to dry. In my country tile manufacturers wont give any warranty if you don't install them. I'm a bit surprised you don't use more screws or fixings in the tiles, but I guess they're not prone to "fly" because of the flat shape.

Excellent job on this roof! All of those windows assure great natural light. The tiles are unique and lovely. So much care was put into this! ❤👍👍👍

Thank you very much! I love how building styles are different around the world🙂 these tiles are the most common around here, when kids in primary school draw houses, they usually draw roofs with tiles like these ones.😁
Incredible magic team!
Well done craftsmen, it's a pleasure to know that there is a construction company that takes so much care of all the details, keep up the craftsmanship and perfection. Živjeli!

Wow nice roof. I just cant believe that none of the clay tiles ever slide out? Amazing
Super quality job!
Love the clean look!!!
Oh yeah, I can stop working for 10 minutes and watch this wonder... thanks for sharing it G!!!!
Super ! Nice job !!!
Great job. Zagreb seems to be one big building site at the moment! Major works going on everywhere. Thanks to jet lag, I slept through the storm!

You were lucky, I was just getting home from this construction site and drove right into the hearth of the storm, it shaked me good I must say.. Yes after those two earthquakes and now the storm, I guess with the current tempo, it will be totally renewed in a hundred years or so..😅
Wow! The tile roof can be started at the top and bottom at the same time. Nice job!

Yes, also this way the damage to to sheet metal from stepping on it is minimal.
Lovely to see a roof of this size that is not flat (and covered with EPDM). Large buildings mostly have flat roofs and they put the mechanical on top of it. I think this roof with the gutters will last > 100years. Also very nice roof tiles, it's a design I haven't seen that much. Mostly wavy tiles over here, modern houses sometimes do have flat tiles but they are rectangle. Also are the gutters made of zink? The roof windows look like velux or maybe Fakro but another brand it possible, crazy to see so many my attic has like 2 of them. I guess we won't be seeing the finished inside as that is for another company? Thanks!
Dam!!! Well done. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Nice, this roof is a different style wit the beavertail tiles, but construction details are common with the tile roof I'm currently working on. The steel starter strip above the gutter serves the same goal as the lead slab I nail on the lowest batten supporting the lower end of the first row of tiles. Keeps snow and birds out! I removed a birds nest or 15! and some wasp nests.

Yes it is interesting to see different roof styles used around the world. My favorite can be found here in Croatia at the coast. Some old houses are covered with large flat stone slabs, typically 5 cm thick and up to a square meter in surface. Those roofs are commonly centuries old. I don't think anyone could afford it today though..😅

👏👏👏 Bravo again maestro! So the roof tiles just hang on the slats? Does the weight of the tiles hold everything down?
@lignumchannel
11 ай бұрын
Yes the weight of the slats is enough for this area. Near the coast is a different story, they have to be nailed down or fastened with special hooks. Glad you like the work !😁

Amazing work. How long does a roof like that last until it needs replacement or major maintenance?

33 years is warranty for the tiles, but they last a lot longer. I'm sure this roof will outlive me before it needs work..
Beautiful roof. Did you consider solar?

I dont have snow or tiles in my town so 2 questions: the snow device is to hold the snow on the roof of make the snow fall? The tiles, no screws or nails? just one agains the other and they resist 115kmh winds?????? wow
@lignumchannel
11 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching!😁 they are there to keep the snow on the roof so it doesn't fall all at once when it starts to melt on some poor persons head. Yes those tiles are amazing and this model is in use for hundreds of years. I guess the optimal shape was found😁
Чёткая работа напоминает исполнение симфонического оркестра.
How did the roof managed the storm?
@lignumchannel
11 ай бұрын
There are a few broken tiles from flying scaffolding floors, but other than that, no damage.
Solarpanels?
Are the snow clips there to help hold the snow on the roof?
@antesabic9728
11 ай бұрын
They are holding it so it doesn't slide in big pieces, and damage the gutters, with those guards when the snow start to slide, it brakes into small pieces....
@lignumchannel
11 ай бұрын
The gutters are strong enough by themselves but the snow poses a threat to people walking down below. It is safer to hold it on the roof and let it melt slowly.
My ignorance compels me to ask what snow guards are, what is their purpose and how do they work, thanks.
@lignumchannel
11 ай бұрын
They hold the snow on the roof so when it starts to melt, it doesn't fall down all at once and potentially hurt someone walking down below.
