Larch cladding is going up- My House Build Pt15
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
It has been a long time since last video I published and even longer since my last house update. In the meantime, a lot has been done with the interior and exterior and for this episode, I chose to show what we did with the siding. The larch planks were planed and painted in protective coat almost a year ago and were stored in the workshop until about a month ago when we started the assembly. I'm really pleased how it turned out and can't wait to see the final look in a few weeks when it all will be painted and the scaffolding removed. I hope you enjoy this episode and don't forget to turn the CC on for subtitles for more info about the build.

My one problem with this house... is that the videos don't come soon enough, and when they do come, they finish way too quickly. Awesome job guys!!!

Respect from Siberia, Kuzbass !🤘When will you finish building this cinema? We wait))
The addition of the larch really sets it off but by crikey, there are so many layers to the walls on this place.
It's just about the most beautiful thing ever. The vertical piece is missing because it will be added at some later point as an integrated antennae of some sort. The antennae could really be added anywhere but it would be cleaner to do it the way you are doing it so that's how it's going to go and that's that:-) *edit two minutes later, it's for the power mast for the service entry!

Absolutely gorgeous 😍😍😍💪🏾💯🔥🔥🔥🎉🎉🎉 sick bro wow 😮
That cladding looks great! Also, very good idea to replace the smaller screws with bigger headed ones: they not only give a stronger fastening but a more industrial look to the wood (more in the style of carpentry and less in the style of woodworking) which becomes your house design. Congratulations once more for sharing your designing skills, hard work and attention to detail. Hope you & your wife may soon enjoy such wonderful home.

That's some serious engineered wall! Wood clading is there just as heat shield and looks? Are you worried those free joined/hanging plank ends will warp eventually and misaligne? Overall looks grand!

The scale of the build is starting to show now. The design looks very modern with warmth and feel. It definitely stands out in the neighbourhood but still is comfortable there. The standard of the details and construction is both interesting, as a person from New Zealand Zealand aren't built like that here and skillfully carried out to my untrained eye. I'm really looking forward to seeing the interior detail and the project completed. Well done all around.

9:39 I thought it was missing one vertical for the cladding is because the span of each vertical (about 60cm if not mistaken) isn't right if sum it all up to the roof span itself. But then I watch it again, "nah!" they're alligned with the roof battens. So, I would assume you lost/broke/minus one on that vertical.
Wow, this is a huge transformation, the larch cladding is really nice. I have my walls also done with outside insulation now, and the same 1,5mm silicon render. And I'm really happy with the looks. Using wood cladding was not possible for me as it is an existing house and I can't alter the outside too much.
@lignumchannel

Yes, silicone render is great quality and it even comes with anti bacterial and anti fungal properties. As for the cladding, wood is my profession and doing a facade without it was simply not an option:)

Maybe not this extreme, but in the Netherlands for instance almost all houses are two layers of stone with insulation between them, making them about 45cm thick. More mass build rowhouses are concrete pre-cast slabs that are listed in place, finished with insulation and brick on the outside.

I like the look of the larch, but with my luck the open-joint siding would be full of bees within a year. They managed to squeeze through a small gap in the metal soffit, the gap in the open joint seems even larger.

Yes I had the same worry when we did the same kind of cladding on the workshop 5 years ago. I was sure insects would make it their home but for some reason not a single wasp nest or anything else ever appeared. I'm not entirely sure why but maybe constant warm air circulating bothers them, or the fact that they are still exposed to some rain behind the boards. I'm sure it will be good for at least five years and then we will just see..
Wasps are welcome! Be careful with those gaps, because all insects (spiders, wasps etc.) and even small birds love the cavities behind.
@lignumchannel
9 ай бұрын
I thought like that also but we have the same kind of cladding on the workshop and we had no such issues for 5 years now. Reason is that this doesn't provide as much protection from the elements as one would think. Water drains on the backside of the boards as well, also hot circulating air during summer doesn't make it very hospitable environment.. It is basically open space rather than a cavity. Closed spaces with small holes or slits are are much more at danger from issues like this.

It was about time to see/hear something new about your house! And with that I mean both of you. It's kind of bittersweet for me because of understanding that this excellent presented and executed build comes to its end. There is a thing that I was missing the whole time! Motorcycle garage. If I remember correctly, your whole story started with a motorcycle dream. Does that mean I've lost a brother in spirit?! I even considered leaving it without anything so it turns gray and weathered but changed my mind in n the last moment. I believe it will hold for 5 years in between painting to keep it look fresh.
It's been too long since we had an update from you! I can totally see what you are doing and which direction you are going with this house! I love it! Question, will those larch planks need to be refinished/replaced fairly frequently? Another question, how soon till the exterior is mostly complete and we get into the interior design and stuff, or will you not show that. In any case I've loved following this series since it began. Keep up the great work! P.S. Still got that Olive Wood for you here, hit me up!

Hey😀 with all the work I must be honest, we had to put some of the planned instrument projects aside, as soon as violin comes to the table I will come in contact. The larch will hopefully last until I retire and then I'l have time to slowly replace it😉. I think most of the work needed for us to move in will be done in a couple of months and then who knows how long It will take me to complete everything.. much more interior videos await..😁

We did the same type of cladding on the workshop five years ago as an experiment to see exactly that. 5 years have passed and nothing ever moved in. I guess this kind of cladding doesn't provide as much shelter to insects and vermin as they require. constant warm air (hot during summer) circulating and water that comes through the gaps during rain surely bothers them too much.
Don't get me wrong but why is the progression this slow? It's been almost 2 years since the first clip. Is this supply chain issue, manpower or money? I'm just curious :) Also, your hopefully now wife knows more about construction than the last person I encountered claiming to know his job in construction :D what's her profession?
