I am amazed at what these workers can do. In the USA we would not tolerate working conditions like these. However, we have for many, many years been industrialized, modernized, OSHA-fied (rules and safety mandates) and of course we're just a little bit spoiled! Watching that bucket come together was really awesome. The end product looked top-notch too. *These people know what real work is! Watching them work with that heavy plate steel was incredible. Too bad they probably do not get paid nearly what they deserve!* My hat is off to you all! Incredible...just incredible!

I don't think that was a hydraulic press, but a rotary flywheel press. I almost lost an arm to one of those in the 1970's... A hydraulic press moves slowly, a flywheel press makes a fast stroke and no easy way to back up. It makes one down and up stroke in a single flywheel revolution.

I make this comment as a retired toolmaker and design engineer who still uses a metal shop (at my local Menz Shed) and I can say that I am really quite impressed by the workmanship in this video. The freehand gas-axe work was beautiful - especially cutting out the holes for the big pins. I even learnt something new - I have never seen a lathe used to line bore like that. The positional accuracy wouldn't have been great, but it would have been good enough, and the hole sizes would have been more than OK. Even Kurtis at Cutting Edge Engineering uses a hammer to adjust the cutting tool when line boring, although he does have a DTI to get closer tolerances than these guys would have managed. I am maybe a bit worried about the welding as there was bevels I could see, so the welds would have had little penetration. I guess if it works, it works.

Their hard work is impressive, what I see short is tooling and safety measures and if they get these two sorted, their production will be more smoother. Back in the 80's in Dubai, I saw this fellow single handedly build a tanker body on a Mercedes-Benz truck. He got his plates bent into shape and delivered on site. The worksite was out on one side of the lane, in the open with traffic passing by. Everytime I drove down that industrial lane the tank body took shape, untill it was painted to finish and delivered.

--- Very good job. Looking at the video, it seems that all the tasks are easy to perform, but we know that reality is quite different. Watching the video, I have the clear impression that everyone who participates in the factory really likes what they are doing, some work smiling, this is great because it demonstrates the satisfaction of the job done and the accomplishment of something well done, that is, an excellent final product quality and from what I understand this excavator shell will last for a long time.

Looking at the workers in sandals scares the heck out of me! I almost lost a toe just watching this! My friend lost 3 of his fingers handling a plate when we were young. Then your whole life is spent without them.
The thing that amazes me is that no one wears any kind of safety gear , no goggles, gloves, boots etc but they still get the job done! Not saying i would recommend it but amazing nevertheless.

We learned a long time ago that safety glasses saves eyes, steel toe boots saves feet, ear plugs saves ears, and gloves saves hands. We also learned that the cost of the safety gear is nothing compared to losing a limb. I'm sure they have the best doctors and insurance to take care of what ever life threatening injuries they may have. Either way the job will get done because these workers are cheep and easily replaceable.

From several old industrial movies I have watched, I think they have similar employee work safety you could find in major industrial countries like the UK, USA or Germany on 1850-1930s. For me that gap does not look so big considering the huge difference on income and opportunities.

Well Ian, that's what happens when people allow themselves to be exploited. And yes they can be replaced at a drop of a hat!
Amazing video. Wish the guys had proper safety gear. Grinders are no joke when they go wrong.

Basic engineering skills that technology has surpassed,, but so much more cost effective and great skills are being lost to us ,,in the modern engineering ,, and no fire proof overalls or steel toe cap boots ,,,these guys are Great,,

Its only more cost effective because these workers are paid peanuts. If they were payed western wages then this would cost several times what one built in a modern factory by machines would cost.

I think Cecil knows that. When he said us I think he meant humans... not the western world. I agree with Cecil, technology is not always the answer.

Very interesting upload..amazing work by those people..no sophisticated machine needed..they go by the sample only..
I give these guys hella credit for work ethic and using what you got but there is 100% no way that those welds are burnt in hot enuff for what they're doing. Hard working fellas tho, they aint even sweating and you know it's gotta be hot there!
Amazing - thank you filming the whole process!

Ковш из корабельной стали практически вечный, если качественно сделан и им не копать руду и тяжёлые грунты. Адаптеры надо чистить от краски в местах сварки 😄
The resourcefulness of these workers is amazing. I do see a few technical problems with the design, beveling and welding penetration but in the end they produced a very usable product.

Done my apprenticeship at lairds as a boilermaker welder and watched this in amazement, purely for the lack of protective gear. No boots, gauntlets or goggles for a job that could maim or kill you in a second. These lads were exceptional in their execution of the task, and the seasoned lads really kept an eye out for the labourers under their care. Hats off to them.
