It's so bizarre that Birmingham employed him. This was the most 100% guaranteed outcome in football history. Literally every single person on Earth thought he'd be rubbish and get sacked. It's such an odd appointment.

@ShaunLevett I am a villa fan and I even said to my brother and my dad who are the blues fans you have just appointed Wayne Rooney, Good Luck he will get you relgated and he always has if it wasnt got Huddersfield keep losing, even they werent shocked by blues loosing game after game after Rooney said his mission is to get blues promoted and be in the Premier League first time round after that it was always going to go downhill. But my dad and brother said Rooney will get then relgated and why they appointed him in the first place when they weren't too bad and in the play offs🤯🤯 and they want Rowett back. Never know Birmingham can get Lampard now😂 but Birmingham City wanted a big name and backfired

Rooney, Lampard, Gerard. Great players, but just like everyone else, they need to coach at a lower level and work their way up. Yeah but does Eustace want to come back? I mean the team is in freefall, 14 points behind a playoff spot, I'd imagine morale is in the toilet and there will be no trust with the board. He comes back and he's on a hiding to nothing. He gets relegated he'll be sacked and has that on his resume. He keeps them up it's almost guaranteed he'll never be backed by the board. He better negotiate a hefty termination clause and significant transfer funds to even think about it

Soon as I heard he was going to blues manager I shook my head and said we're doomed, he was over rated as a player scoring 1 goal in 3 world cups as our main sticker and he's worse as a so called manger his name got him where he is not his ability

Rooney over rated!!!??? Have you seen his numbers for Man U? Are you living o. Planet earth mate? Rooney is thick but so are Birmingham City fans! They are a match made in heaven! I don’t know what it is but every Blues fan I have met comes across as thick as two short planks. It’s strange because the Villa fans I have met seem to be intelligent and just generally great people! The clever brummies support Villa and the backwards people support blues 🤣😂🤣😂🤣

I rarely agree with Simon Jordan but for once I totally concur. I don't blame Rooney, he was not up to the job but he clearly thinks he is capable, and of course he was going to take the job when it was offered. Cook, as the CEO should have known Rooney was not up to the job and never appointed him. I no longer have faith in Cook, Tom Wagner has done all he is capable of to restore the club but the man with day to day control of the club is debatably not up to it.

Gary Cook is definitely a goose. What an embarrassing joke of a ceo he is. And I don’t want to hear former player pundits giving every excuse under the sun for Rooney not working out there. It’s clear to see that he can’t coach. Full stop.

Mourinho, Klopp & Benitez were average to mediocre as players, but that never stopped them from succeeding as managers. On the contrary, a smart and articulate character with a great playing CV in Vincent Kompany is stuck in a relegation fight at Burnley.

Imagine employing someone because he is your mate and it turns out the be the worst appointment and it costing your employers millions to fix. If I was the owners id be questioning Cooks appointment and id be looking for another CEO, the reason why he wanted to stick with Rooney is because its already cost millions to sack the previous manager and he didnt want egg on his face with the owners. If I was the owners id say Wayne Rooney is your appointment and we will be expecting you to pay the rest of his contract off out of your own money, employing your mates on someone elses dime, the balls on this guy...

Great players don't necessarily make great managers. Gerrard, Lampard and Rooney have shown that. I wouldn't have thought Rooney has the right temperament for management. A manager has to be shrewd and capable of motivating players. That doesn't sound like Rooney.

Aren't the best managers usually the ones who played in midfield and were grinding it out, and were not exactly the biggest stars out there? But why sack a manager who was sitting so high up the table. They only got what they deserved. Just wait when they appoint Lampard next.

I can't believe that any football club owner/CEO in their right mind could hire someone like Wayne Rooney. [what is this obsession with 'ex-players' - and that they will suddenly become accomplished managers?!?] Lampard, Gerrard and Rooney are utterly inept - yet some clubs are still prepared to 'gamble' on them! I obviously don't know Wayne Rooney personally, but he always comes across to me has an extremely poor 'communicator'. [ie: he can't string a coherent sentence together]. I would have thought that this is an essential skillset for any manager. However, the single most glaring takeaway from Rooney's appointment [and subsequent sacking] is that Rooney's incompetence is only surpassed by that of Birmingham City's CEO.
