replace /repair water pix water line. After a few years the hose delivering the water starts to dry out and breaks. Once it starts to break there is no stopping it. You could replace it with manufacture's part. That's expensive and you'll end up in the same situation. My solution is to use food grade silicone hose. 2 mm ID 4 mm OD Although having a slightly thicker OD like a 5 mm or 6 mm may grab better. There are a few youtube videos on how to take this apart. Watch that but don't reconnect the existing line. As the silicone line is clear you can see if you have bacteria in the line. I recommend flushing the waterline briefly before each use.
Note: after a year or so the tubing may stretch out where it's connected. No problem just cut off that small piece (1/4") and push back onto connector. It will give a good seal. You can also take some Teflon tape and wrap the connector so the tubing is snug. I did this on the hand held piece over the tubing then pushed the round collar to make a tight fit
Over time the silicone tubing gets a bit relaxed where it connects on the unit. You may cut off a small 1/4" piece and refit it so it'll be snug

That is what I was looking for. How to find a replacement hose. And not spend the $8+ for a new handle. Thanks to you sir.

Use food grade hose and the inside and outside diameter is snug enough to create a good seal. Silicone in time does relax and may start to leak. IN that case you may cut off a short 1/4" piece of the hose and reconnect. So make your hose long enough to cut in the future. In my case it would have been better to have the outside diameter slightly thicker so the slip on washer was tighter

Many thanks for this, Ray. I have two waterpik units, and both now have hose failure, though the one in our seasonal home probably went through freeze thaw cycles over the winters, which made the tubing brittle. The one here in the city just started leaking, but after about 3 years. Through experimenting, I found the way (right and wrong) to open the handle, but I agree that simply reattaching the existing coiled hose wasn't working, and mine broke again within a few uses. Your solution seems like the best there is, and I greatly appreciate your time and effort to share your how-to advice with the world, on KZread. Google-searching for the tubing you mentioned came up with half a dozen choices, many on ebay at bargain prices...such as 12' for $6./free shipping! Instead of Teflon tape, do you think wrapping thin wire around the tube over the connection would do as well?

NOTE: I set my water pick to always be in the on position so as soon as you turn it on water will be ejected at the nozzle. Otherwise water pressure builds up and has a tendency to twist the silicon tubing. Therefore you have to turn it on and off on the switch. I would suspect the reason the original hosing is stiff is to absorb the pressure so it stays put. . I've been using my pick in this position for over a year with no issues. Besides it will keep the pressure from building up and working the joints and o-rings loose. Happy Flossing

I noticed the same thing as Keith Rodan; with silicone tubing the pressure pulses were very weak, as if the tubing was absorbing them. It seems that the tubing needs to be rigid in order to avoid this. Fortunately for me, my tubing was not brittle like yours, so I was able to just shorten it to get it to work. If anyone finds a better, more rigid tubing, please let us know.

I followed his video and replaced the hose. It works but there is an issue, the new silicon hose is too soft to sustain the vibration of presure. It was dacing like crazy. I ended up to use the old hose wraping around the new hose as reinforcing.

I haven't old water pick-40 But I need to replace the hose but I can't figure out how to take the bottom off. There are clips all the way around but no matter what something is holding it. When I look under the rubber tips there are no screws, so maybe it is glued together. Lol

Have successfully reconnected with the replacement hose, all works without leaking, however, it seems that the clear flexible hose doesn't deliver the same intensity at maximum setting as the original curly white hose did...wonder why?

Maybe it is not so rigid as the original hose, so it expands a little bit with each pulse of the water.

I did everything as you instructed. The only thing I noticed is that when I turn it on and hold the blue button on the handle to stop the water flow for a second it starts to spigot some water from the bottom. Could that be the O ring?

I think that's correct. Not looking at the unit but I think there is a round nylon keep that secures the hose to the outlet on the bottom. I do have my pix on the on position all the time so pressure doesn't build in the line. I just stick it in the sink if I need to place it down. Typically I will run the reservoirs dry then shut the unit off

How did you take the hand piece apart? I tried a sharp knife but even it was too thick. My hand piece leaks at the top. The tubing is fine, Thanks.

If you take a utility knife with new blade and repeatedly follow the joint where the 2 parts come together to should create an opening then place something like a butter knife that's more rigid and pry apart. IF it's leaking at the connection I've taken a metal twist tie ,wrap it around the connection and twist it till it applies some pressure around the connection. Or you can remove the tubing, apply some teflon tape to increase the diameter then push the tubing back on. Doesn't take much tape just enough to increase the circumference so it will seal. Good luck

Wonderful video and your explanation in detail. Thank you. BTW I hv a Waterpik WP100 it is 119 volt unit and want to know (1)whether the motor is protected with a fuse in case of over voltage. (2) if so, how to replace it, since the is working O. K when 110 v is applied to its terminals . But when assembled and switched on it does not. Can you please help me. Thanks in advance.

One more correction: - the motor works when 110 v is applied to the motor terminals. I think a dose or a resistor like thing at one of the terminals is at fault Plse clarify.

I'd suspect the unit may be 110v in but probably has a step down transformer to maybe 12v or lower. The unit doesn't require a lot of amperage to work as it's a small motor. Typically manufactures step down the voltage to use less expensive components. I'm not 100% sure but this would be typical . Like your computer is 110v in but is a 12v machine. The waterpik more than likely won't have a fuse , and not a replaceable fuse. Sometimes there is a thermal fuse that has to be soldered in to replace. But I didn't see one when I took my machine apart. Note that even though voltage for a unit may say 110v it has a range it can operate in. I suspect 120v is within range Perhaps I may not understand the question. Does the unit work when 110v is applied but does not wk when 119v applied?

Thanks, I installed a replacement hose/ handle (non-genuine like most of them out there) to my wp100 model, but the pressure is now half it was before. No apparent leaks though. Any clue why?

Push the water reservoir down hard where it meets the rubber inlet. you don't have a tight fit at that connection, between the water tank and the rubber inlet on the pump

For an additional $9 to $10 US you can get the complete new handle+hose assembly from Waterpik. Or a new one from China off eBay for $6 or $7 US. Not worth fixing it yourself with third party materials and fiddling with that ugly broken handle.

The waterpik hose is stiff to start with. They want it to break so you have to buy a whole new machine. I'll be buying your hose.

  • @RayZaplatar

    @RayZaplatar

    2 жыл бұрын

yes, but it's stiff bc it resists the force of the water pressure. What you will find with the silicone hose it will want to curl and wrap when the pressure builds . So I keep my unit on so as soon as I turn unit on water comes out the hose. So pressure doesn't build in hose. I keep it in the sink.

  • @RayZaplatar

Now that's a good question. As long as the inside diameter of the replacement tube will fit snugly it will work. I had to wrap a little Teflon tape on the outside of the tube where it connects to the unit then push that plastic retainer over the tube to make a snug fit. I continue to use my unit with no leaks. The main thing is to make sure you have tight connections where you attach the tubing to the hand held unit and on the base. If you can get tubing that is 5-6mm outside diameter will fit snugly .
