Broken WaterPik WP100-W Fix Video Part 2!

Ғылым және технология

The WaterPik shown in part 1 (see • Broken WaterPik WP100-... ) gets fixed and tested! After ordering thermal fuses online at $11.49 for a 10 pack, I proceed to swap out the old fuse with a new one. Hopefully it will still protect the unit from an overheating motor, and not short out or rattle apart my shoddy insulating tape due to motor vibration! How many of you would bother to fix this $1.15 part on a $70 product that died within a year of purchase, and how many would toss it in the garbage? Let me know in the comments below!

Thanks for the video! I am looking into buying a Waterpik and seeing a LOT of people crying that the machine dies in less than a year so now I will have an idea of what is wrong if it happens. Seems I should be able to fix it myself if I take care with working on it. 🙂 By the way, if it's a fairly easy fix, you better believe I am going to repair it when parts are so cheap and the item itself costs so much! I have a 2012 42" JVC HDTV that had a 1 yr warranty and it died 4 months after the warranty ended. Both Walmart and JVC refused to help me out. I took the TV to a local repair man, paid him $20 to test everything out and found the culprit. Then I went home and for around $125 ordered the part online and replaced it myself. It's 4/2023 and the TV is STILL working!!! (I hope I didn't just jinx myself there! Knock on wood! LOL)

Yes, congrats on the TV fix! You should check out some of my TV repair videos on my channel. I've got a whole collection. I mostly fixed TV's by changing a few components on the power supply for pennies (component level jobs, not replacing boards). I haven't bought a TV for years, people just keep dumping theirs on the curb, I pick them up and get them going again. I have more TV's than I know what to do with. 🙂

Heat shrink tubing would be a quick and easy way to insulate the bare wire. You probably need to leave the body of the fuse uncovered to allow for maximum heat transfer from the pump for accurate temperature sensing and maintain optimum protection from overheating condition.

Yeah, a heat sink would come in handy for that fuse soldering job. Hemostats are a tad cheap at Harbor Freight and just about anything of that nature made of metal would likely work. Nice, you also give some good advice on the repair process. Man, that think is noisy!

The WaterPik model WP-100W has a design flaw and should be recalled. The fault is in the gear-switch mechanism that allows the internal switch contacts of the switch to be partially closed, this results in motor stalling at full position eventually blowing the thermal fuse. A DC motor under a load will run hot with too little voltage. A low voltage forces a motor to draw extra current thus blowing the thermal fuse.

Thanks for the insight. Good luck trying to get a recall on this item, I don't think they care. If it doesn't cause a fire or some other consumer-safety issue they probably won't ever recall it. Failing "dead" is probably the best outcome from safety issue. 🙂 Maybe they'll fix the design flaw and eventually newer models will last longer, but by then the brand will lose all credibility as a quality product.

See if you can try this fix and let me know if it works. They are fairly easy to open and close, and simple inside. Just be careful.

These are available on Amazon, usually in 5 or 10 packs. You can probably find it on eBay, and other online stores.

O resistor estava funcionando normalmente. O problema era o fusível térmico.
