Russian propaganda was great. Ukraine is an independent country who is free to decide its own future : democracy, language, association with the European Union, and join NATO (you see why). The security guarantees that Russia has is that no one (except perhaps China) wants to invade Russian territory. Putin has this twisted mindset that the West wants to invade Russia! Putin's mindset is to bring back the Soviet Empire and Ukraine is the first step on that road. Putin has deliberately agitated the Russian people living in Ukraine against the Ukraine government. At the end of the day, Ukraine has the absolute right to determine who they wish to gorhe alliances with. Lavrov's line about Ukraine not being able determine it's own security at the expense of Russia's is a red herring.

You will attack Lavrov rather than listening to the context of his answers. He clearly spoken about how Russia's concerns were ignored, how "western friends" fail to stick to the agreements. Thusly the point: diplomacy is blocked by the west. Then another major point: Ukraine's attacks drastically increased starting from 17th Feb 2022, which is documented by OSCE. In a perfect world Russia would have played by the rules and asked for justice in UN for example, but who can promise that in the meantime US wouldn't nudge Ukraine into fully winning Donetsk? They can even blame everything on Russia or Donetsk while keeping the narrative favourable to them in mass media. And we all know they can: look at Iraq and Syria for example. You can agree or disagree. Wholly or partially. But stating that he evaded the question is either an ignorant act or trolling

Many Indians dont seem to realize that their accent in English is very strong. They tend to talk fast with that strong accent and expect everyone else to understand them. @@StinkPickle4000 Yea like I said the moderator might have good attentions , but to ask Russia to end to Western Colonisation in East Europe is what they try to do, ... it is very clear that by destroying the bufferzone by the USA and EU that East Europe will be war ground as long as the colonist, puppet governments and the NATO bring their war and their weapons to the Russian boarder. If you consider Palki, yes she has done a good job in calling hypocrisy of the west towards India. If that fits to what Putin says, can't help it. @@bw6524 I've never see that in Palki. She is very professional. Criticizing the West from time to time, isn't "unprofessional," it's the definition of professional, when appropriate. India is effectively neutral in all this (somewhat leaning to the West). Acknowledging real politics is not "anti-US." I've seen dozens of clips of her hating on what Russia is doing. Some of her clips about the Russian invasion have been down-right damning of Russia.

He's not wrong though... Is everybody just playing dumb? What is the rebuttal to the points the Russians have always made about what happened during the maidan, and during the Donbass war? It used to be we'd get called Putin stooge conspiracy theorists for suggesting American spooks were behind the violent coup - now Western officials brag about having done it. We used to be called Putin stooges for saying it was the West and Zelensky who repeatedly failed to abide by the Minsk agreement, and somehow it was Putin and the separatists violating the peace accords - now both western leaders and the Ukranian nationalists brag about how Minsk was always a fake-out so they could arm up to fight Russia... We were told it was conspiracy theory that US was setting up bioweapon labs in Ukraine; then Nuland admitted to it congressional hearings... And now we have found out that Nordstream was blown up on Biden's orders (no surprises there, but we were called conspiracy theorists for calling that one as well...) and the operation was set in motion before the Russian invasion specifically and deliberately to prevent Germany from turning the taps on if things got too hairy in their energy sector (as they have done now..). Lavrov is correct that the bombings in Donbass were escalated right before the invasion. He also didn't mention, but it's very relevant, that Zelensky was floating the idea of getting nuclear weapons to point at Russia months before the invasion. There was also a (probably US backed) coup attempt in Belarus right before Moscow decided to invade. And are we to believe that it's a lie that the post-Maidan junta regime banned the Russian language throughout Ukraine - including all the regions currently being fought over that were populated primarily by Russian speakers who overwhelmingly voted for the guy the West and the nationalists violently overthrew in the Maidan coup? The very same people who tried to succeede rather than live under this new regime, and many of whom see Russia as liberators in this war? Is it not true that Russia has made their conditions clear and has been the one open to peace talks this whole time, while the West staunchly refuses unless Putin is overthrown (lol) and while Zelensky repeatedly states he'd rather see his country burn than enter into peace talks before they retake the separatist regions (never gonna happen)? I just don't get what the pro Ukraine argument even is... It seems to amount to what Kamala Harris said in that radio interview when asked about the war, something like "well Ukraine is a small country that was invaded by big bad Russia and that's bad, and we support DeMoCrAcY so we back Ukraine" What possible right does the West have to threaten Russia like this, or for that matter what right do the nationalists in the west of Ukraine have to oppress and abuse the Russian speakers in Donbas and Crimea? Do they not have a right to self determination? Newsflash - given the option, the population there overwhelmingly sides with Russia (duh) and not the neo nazis who openly and brazenly refer to them as sub-human dogs and "orcs" who must be put down and subjugated as enemies of the state... What's the answer to any of this?

Well, if the West is using this, then they need to thank Russia for starting the war of aggression. Unless I'm mistaken, the borders of Ukraine are agreed upon by all nations of the world. How Serbia has to negotiates about Kosovo? According to our constitution it is part of our country. So if EU and US want negotiations they could easily "tell" Zelensky, just like they are forcing negotiations about Kosovo (independence, UN membership etc), thus it can be done. Ukraine has few reasons to speed up negotiations because of: a) destruction; b) people are getting killed; c) refugees. We here had many, many refugees. And let me tell you very simple fact of life: once people are not in their country for some time and settle somewhere and begin new life, they are not going back. People will continue to leave Ukraine even if war ends tomorrow. Demographic data are available, see for yourself how many people Ukraine lost before any war.

Though some statements mr. lavrov was definitely a politicians response. We all could tell. I do agree no treaty of Versailles, which actually caused a greater conflict farther down the road. Though whatever agreement that is agreed upon by UKRAINE & RUSSIA, that deals with Ukraine must be iron clad. The only thing the US & EU can agree upon with Russia are issues that are 3rd party and are not the international legal jurisdiction of Ukraine.

I do think Ireland should get back the north, and Russia should return Crimea and the rest of the invaded territories, and if that requires some shelling let it be. The interviewer is extremely disappointing. An embarrassment to Indian media and once again revealing The Independent as a propagandist rather than bringing out the truth to an extremely complex problem. Russia's concern is with its existence and survival and that will override the opinions of other countries. Nothing to do with survival, they were surviving just fine. They literally just sent their people to be slaughtered in Ukraine. So that they could expand Russian borders. Russian leaders care about drawing a bigger map where they can write Russia on. We know this because they have done it before to other countries. Listening to Lavrov is no pleasure at all, knowing that he is responsible for such horrible crimes. @@jacksimon3472 To begin with, I firmly believe that war is never a solution to any problem, as it simply determines who will oppress the other's problem. My issue lies in the fact that the West portrays Russia as the sole perpetrator, killing and bombing people just for their own enjoyment. The situation between Russia and Ukraine is not as straightforward as it is being made out to be. There are valid arguments on both sides of the matter, and the West is biased towards Ukraine, casting Russia as the villain. This is not a productive approach. While I acknowledge that Russia could have taken more diplomatic steps to resolve the issue with Ukraine before resorting to war, it is difficult to ascertain which side is correct and which is incorrect

Everything Lavrov said was a lie, or a distortion at best. But yeah... I noticed that too. As if Zelensky would "outlaw" himself, HIMSELF from the possibility of negotiating with Russia!

Lie or no lie Russia has every right to protects its security as much as USA,if USA went to Iraq and killed the president of a sovereign country then why not Russia!? NATO is a threat to Russia we all know that,so don't pretend like Ukraine are so innocent in this.

"To allow"? It's allowed. Russian is being taught in many schools. 30% of the population speaks Russian. Their very constitution protects this...

His claim is a lie. Russian is taught at lower levels all over Ukraine, not only in the Donbas. As I understand it, the only change proposed was to require all university courses to be taught in Ukrainian. Even in the Donbas, the majority are ethnic Ukrainians. They may speak Russian in the cities, but Ukrainian is still spoken in the villages. And compare his claim to what Russia is already doing in the occupied parts of Ukraine. All Ukrainian symbols are being removed, children are taught only in Russian and taught only Russian history.

Lavrov, as Putin are both polyglots. Actually many members of the Russian government and high ranked officials are polyglots. Putin - English and German His spokesman Peskov - English and Turkish Lavrov - English and ... I forgot the Asian language he speaks also well. Tolstoy, Piotr Tolstoy, the grandson of the famous Russian writer Liev Tolstoy - French and English ...... And the list is far from being completed.
