I think the Brits are a lot better at self deprecation. I think with being such a bleak, rainy country with such an unstable economy for so many years we've all just sort of got used to the idea that we're a bit crap and we moan about it but at the end of the day we just get on with it and laugh at ourselves and each other.

32:09 I absolutely love the moment in the segment WISIS when they're trying to guess the answer to "IVE NOT WORN UNDERWEAR FOR 20 YEARS" and it cuts to Mickey/Gabby and they genuinely don't think its Richard because they (at the very least, Mickey) believe him to be "too self-assured and competent". It then cuts to a shot of Richard leaning back in his chair with a look on his face that I interpret as genuine gratitude. I think its a very cool moment, the respect that these people have for each other.

Irish neutrality in the war was supported by the population of Ireland, although a minority favoured fighting against the Axis powers. Irish citizens could serve in the British armed forces, as at least 50,000 in the British Army did, as well as in the Merchant Navy and Royal Air Force, with some rising up the ranks rapidly, such as the youngest Wing Commander fighter ace in the RAF's history - Brendan Finucane. 4,983 members of Ireland's Defence Forces deserted to fight with the British and Allied armed forces. After the war they faced discrimination, lost their rights to pensions and were barred from holding government jobs. They were finally pardoned in 2012.

There's a video with Stephen Fry and he (I think) perfectly sums up the difference between American and British comedy. Americans are so boastful and full of themselves. It makes for mostly unpleasant viewing (this is just my opinion). Whereas Brits are so witty, and yet so 'down on their luck'. Its a lot funnier to see someone who's miserable and acts like he doesn't want to be funny, then someone who's happy and tries to hard to be funny.

I wonder if anyone has ever started to watch a panel show and thought, 'oh great, Gabby Logan is on, that will really add something to the episode'..
@AlbatrossRevenue
8 жыл бұрын
I would imagine it's a greater number than the people who have watched a youtube video and thought, "Oh great! People have commented on this. That will really add something to this video". But honestly, I think that compared to others from her line of work, she's performs remarkably well on panel shows. She seems to carry herself naturally and participate comfortably among a group of seasoned comedians. That's not easy to do. I've seen many panelists completely cave under that atmosphere. While it may be safe to say that most viewers would rather see another great comedian in her spot, it's also fair to say that she is far from the worst choice for a panelist.

+Abi Daker Having seen her on Never Mind the Buzzcocks (I think?) and she did pretty well then, I was actually quite pleased. It's something different. And in this show she does pretty well again. So it does add something to have a variety of guests.

+Abi Daker It's nice to have someone on (doesn't matter who) who isn't funny enough to make jokes. They focus on the game, and you end up getting the feeling that the game actually matters to the players. Contrast with Never Mind the Buzzcocks or Mock the Week, where you rarely, if ever, get the feeling that anyone is trying to win. I don't even know why I think that's an improvement, I just do.

Gambit771 cash and carry began in 39 followed up by lend-lease in early 1941 which distributed the modern equivalent of nearly a trillion dollars worth of supplies and cash funding to the allied forces. Effectively, the US was involved in the war effort from the beginning. It may have only actively joined halfway through, but its contributions were instrumental to the war effort. Why is it that David Mitchell's shows always provoke WWII debate?
@Gambit771

True selling weapons and having fellow countrymen volunteer does mean technically you're involved but America should not be proud of their actions if they want to go round claiming they won the war single handedly. I love you Brits. American shows can be funny and have their moments, but when it comes to depth and intelligent humor, I always come to the UK. Sherlock, IT Crowd, Top Gear, Graham Norton, Craig Ferguson, and shows with witty guests like Jimmy Carr, Richard Ayoade, David Mitchell, you guys have an impressive array of talent.

I think the Brits are a lot better at self deprecation. I think with being such a bleak, rainy country with such an unstable economy for so many years we've all just sort of got used to the idea that we're a bit crap and we moan about it but at the end of the day we just get on with it and laugh at ourselves and each other.
You can tell Gabby just adores everything Richard says, every time they’re together she seems lit up when he speaks
gabby: "vivienne westwood does have a weird style..." micky: "she looks like she possibly could smell of wee." HAHAHAHA THAT KILLED ME
“And I commend this budget to the house!” I’m dead 😂😂😂
My sister didn't say a word till she was 2 (She said "ester" once which was the name of our grandma's dog) she came downstairs one day after many visits to the doctors and therapists, looked at my mum and said "Where's my breakfast" turns out she knew how to speak but found out things were easier if she didn't
It's a little disappointing that this one didn't get any further than a first season. It had a reasonable premise (def better than Insert Name Here), Mitchell & Ayoade are in it and it seemed to click.

@AlbatrossRevenue

@Gambit771

True selling weapons and having fellow countrymen volunteer does mean technically you're involved but America should not be proud of their actions if they want to go round claiming they won the war single handedly. You don't use a war to make money and gain power, trying to weaken your allies and say see we was in it from the start. All you've done i help the enemy
