Woah, woah, woah. The English can be called out for a lot but you can not say they don't know humor or haven't made an incredible impact on comedy in general. As much as i love and respect the show and the man, Monty Python had a much greater impact on comedy than Seinfeld. The UK has produced a massive amount of hilarious tv series, movies and plays. I mean, even Shakespeare is funny sometimes but if we're talking modern humor, just look at everything that's happened since Monty Python. The Python crew alone are responsible for a ton of great productions. I could go on forver listing the British contributions to comedy and still miss countless amazing projects that I'll hate myself for not mentioning. Wit is certainly a part of British humor but so is absurdity, situational comedy, and there is often a creativity within the dialog that is unrivaled. Its some of the best comedy in world. It is every bit on par with the US contributions over the same period, but not as many people are exposed to it. Just a few of my favorite series from the extensive catalog of great British comedy from the past 60 or so years... -Monty Python's Flying Circus and the works of the individual members, including Faulty Towers. -A Bit of Fry and Laurie -Blackadder -The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer -Are You Being Served? -Allo, Allo! -Absolutely Fabulous -Little Britain -the IT Crowd -the Office (OG) -The Toast of London -Peep Show -The Young Ones -The Mighty Boosh -Red Dwarf That's not counting series that are also quite dramatic, I forgot or haven't seen/didn't vibe with, or the many films and plays. The world of comedy, especially sketch and situational comedy, would be so much less without the wry cerebral absurdity of British humor.
