I loved the executive summary at the beginning of the review with your recommendation. I would be all for more reviews like this in the future. At any rate keep up the great work, you’re one of my faves.

Thanks for the review. I learnt more in 10 minutes than hours reading the rules.

is that game which on booster pack instead of red army has russian army in the name? maybe would be good for designer to take some history class

Maybe there were ONLY Russian troops in the expansion. Any how, I don't think anyone expects too much historical accuracy out of DVG. His games always seem to be a system with a theme wrapped around them. - my impression at least.

Disappointing that DVG went the 'DLC' route with this game. To hide how expensive this game is, they divided it into expansion packs. You want the complete game, and who doesn't? North of $200. Stop this, DVG. Give us a good, complete game, and stop nickle and diming us with $15 expansions.

well north of 200 Euros in Europe for base + expansions / collectors box etc. One for Black Friday deals me thinks.

Marco, I do not want to watch your videos any more : you almost always conclude "this game is awesome", and you have made me acquire too many games (some of which proved disappointing). More critical sense would be appropriate IMO.

That is a problem when it becomes really more a way for game companies to promote their games in return for free copies, vs the average gamer buying a game and posting a review. (Not say WF is not a good game) this is a more general comment.

Marco's reviews are more "first impressions" than anything else. It would take several weeks, if not months to adequately go through the game which clearly Marco (and no other reviewer) has done to this point. With the game less than a month old, ANY reviewer who claims they have played WWII Warfighter thoroughly enough to provide an in-depth review should be taken with a HUGE grain of salt. As with reviews of anything (particularly movies), it's not so much whether the reviewer likes or dislikes the game, it's how you can relate your likes and dislikes to the reviewer. Marco pretty much likes everything, but there is a definite difference in HOW he likes games. With some, he's really enthusiastic about and detailed in his reviews. With others, like this one, is more of a "scratch the surface, how-to-play" type of review from someone who has just cracked the box open. I'm sure Marco likes it and thinks it is a good system, but I'm also sure this is really not his cup of tea based on his tone. And, I'm pretty sure he didn't play it more than a few times before giving his "impression" of it. Personally, I like WWII Warfighter so far and I've played around a dozen missions. However, I would not dare to give a full review of the game until I've played dozens more and thoroughly checked out the system. No reviewer should even give a detailed attempt for a while, but that's not going to stop many from doing so.

That is fair, and something as varied as these games are it is hard to be a jack of all trades. Probably more difficult if you are reviewing a half dozen games or so a week. As you said they are more first impressions than reviews; filling in the gray area between unboxing videos and true in depth reviews.

Sadly, there are very few "in-depth" reviews done on wargames or even board games today. I'm not talking about reviews that last for hours, but rather those who take the necessary time to go through the system, looking for potential weaknesses, and testing strategies that might break the game. Most reviews these days are "first impressions" (at least from what I've seen) designed to be out there while the game is still hot. It takes far longer to do a full, in-depth review of a game like Warfighter. "A Few Acres of Snow" is a prime example of a game that got lots of good buzz and even won an award, only to discover months later when someone actually played the game many times that a particular British strategy (the "Halifax Hammer" if I remember correctly) was 90%+ successful. It was so successful that the designer had to issue new rules which helped to re-balance the game, but the damage was done. Still, it seems that few have taken heed of that warning and still I see reviews on games days after they've been released. So, it's only a matter of time before reviewers will get burned again. Even though I think "Warfighter" is too random to be unbalanced, it's going to take a long time to play through the different missions, check the different strategies, and see what works and what does not. Few, if any who posts reviews are going to do that because by the time they get a firm impression of the game it's no longer "hot", so who cares.

I think (don't quote me) that Marcowargamer once mentioned that he didn't really take to Boss Monster as he was wandering around Gen Con and also his review on Fantahzee gave it an 'okish' rating so it's not all "great" reviews and opinions for everything.
