    I was hoping this would be as fun as Pendragon's The Thing Boardgame. The empty board is a bit of a downer, and an erratic rulebook is always something I steer away from since it results in arguments on game night lol. So far, Pendragon's The Thing and Legendary Big Trouble In Little China are two fantastic boardgames which really bring John Carpenter's movies to life--I love playing them!❤

    Hi Marco, from the Netherlands here. Watching your video’s for years now. Have to say I respect your broadening of scope, moving away from only the wargames. But I really miss your reviews of the wargame, they have grown scarce now… Well, all things change. All best over there, Harry

    i just saw this come up and i was really interested to find out they made a game of this,as i had a vague memory i thought i recall seeing something on a video that somebody was maybe making a game based on the movie. idk if its worth getting though now. lol thanks for reviewing and showing Marco!

    I think the audience for this game is more for big fans of the film vs casual fans. It's the theme of being in and reliving the movie with different outcomes that's the draw. The movie is a complete story that the game is specifically based on, therfore it wasn't intended to have new discoveries or a broader scope of story outside the movie.

    Thank you for this video! I would love to see more videos about games you played once and why they didn't work for you. That can be a very useful warning about things to look out for, even for people who like the game. I find it very unthematic and game-ruining when a social deduction game allows a player to change sides if they think the other side is winning, if the other side is so abhorrent and antithetical to their starting side. No one in The Thing (the film) would say "looks like the alien is probably taking over the base, so I'm going to do everything I can to get infected". Yet some games make that the smart decision to win the game. It's plainly a failure of game design to allow that in.

  • @marcowargamer
    @marcowargamer10 күн бұрын

    in the conversation after the game, we all agreed that the best strategy to win was to become an alien ASAP. If all become aliens, only the last player to be turned loses, and everyone else wins. That is weak.

    Marco, do you like any other hidden traitor games, like BSG?

  • @marcowargamer
    @marcowargamer10 күн бұрын

    I liked BSG in 2008 - it was so thematic and revolutionary then. By today's standards it'd feel too long and fiddly, probably. I love hidden traitor games like The Resistance or Don't Mess with Cthulhu or One Night Werewolf. I feel that they all give me the tools to guess at better than 50% if I did my job right. I even like team switch in Betrayal, because it happens early in the game and it does not make the previous phase irrelevant (the preparation you did still matters).

  • @marcoboschini1049
    @marcoboschini10498 күн бұрын

    @@marcowargamerbsg is not long or fiddly, i've played It last weekend in 5 people in an afternoon, just about 3 hours but we ate an ice cream in the middle. The design is also very clean, not fiddly. Reccomended. Try it

    I need to know more about the game, but I think it would work if any player that was contaminated treats it as a loss and only the player that started as the alien treats it as a win (and maybe that player’s gets a better degree of victory the more players they convert).

    If they are revisiting the original game, this would have been a great opportunity to fix the fact that being the king of the hill in a game that is ostensibly about that just isn't that great. Going into Tokyo is usually something players try to avoid. Change the numbers to the building icons from KoNY, and make them only score points when you're in Tokyo. Sitting around rolling numbers and not fighting really highlights the Yahtzee roots of the game.

    I enjoy this one. It allowed me to introduce worker-placement to my dino-loving kid, and is one I'd recommend to people who are beginner gamers but who are want to learn some new mechanics. Love the dino art on the cards, too!

  • @michadvgames
    @michadvgames16 күн бұрын

    We agreed that this was a really good my-first-worker-placement game. We haven't utilized global objectives all that much - they tend to only become viable at the very end of the game and even then, publishing a holotype seems to be worth more points. I can't see the game ever ending due to filling two cards, especially at lower player counts. I almost think the Global Objectives should be scaled to player counts, as something requiring 9 of a type is really unlikely to be fulfilled in a 2P game (so, have different objective cards for 2P, 3P, etc.). It may be that we just got really high objectives in our two games.

    i think the moral tracker should work as a "shield" slowly getting weaker and depleted and instead of automatically ending the game the players either gets automatically killed separately or individually NEXT time the alien lands on them OR the player has to roll a dice and only survives on a six or on a five and six 😬🙊🙀👽🐈👻

I hope you got a sizeable tax deduction when you gave away a small fortune in board games. Noble effort regardless, the collection should bring many lots of joy.

    Thanks for your review! Really glad you like them and I worked extremely hard on the publishing quality so appreciate you noticing that. Yep - "courtisan" is a French noun that translates to "courtier" in English. Whereas"courtesan" is an English noun for a woman whose favours are negotiable :) And this is not the first time a French publisher has made this particular translation mistake when publishing a game in English. The previous time was about 30 years ago, though.

Many board gamers would enjoy the game book medium if they were knowledgeable of its breadth. Reviewing them in this manner helps to educate board gamers thereof. Thanks!

    Hello! Philipp here, the creator of Aces & Armor. If you have any questions about the game, I am happy to help and answer. I have worked on this game for many years and have put all of my heart into it. Please note that this is a miniature board game for a fun skirmish in under 2 hours, not a classical wargame. I just want to make sure I set the right expectations. This is not a historical consim game like many (great) hex & counter games.
