I want to echo the same sentiment. This music builds peace, calm, bravery, determination. I'm going through a lot in my life right now and your music along with Heilung and a few others is absolutely life-saving. I think basically anything Norwegians touch is golden just now, you guys seem to be having a bit of a Golden Age which is pretty neat.

The actual meaning is translated entirely different into english though.. "Elden tvingar deg or meg" actually means: "The fire forces you out through me." The english translation sounds inspirational, while the Norwegian one directly speaks of posession or an altered state. **tbh its two different songs.

@@MrEnaric not only poetry, yes, it is a beautiful way to phrase it, but the wording is older than Einar, it is how my ancestors spoke, we have a lot of these expressions still today in Nordic languages - connecting nature, supernatural beings, gods, animals, people and every day life. We don't reflect upon it much today, but it's pretty cool when you do. /Sweden

This song awakens something. Now we have to go to forest we are connected into, where we feel our heartbeat because of meeting with our ancestors. Everytime I listen to Wardruna, I don't understand words but I know how much they goes deep into my heart and my soul rejoice. Everytime. No matter of my mood. American here. I listen to this song every winter. The long, dark, blistering cold days and nights with frost on the trees and snow on the ground or ice fog clinging brutally in the air just completely sets the mood for this song. I love it

Listning to this song makes the ice crack here in the north. The power, the feelings... Think my ancectors just opened there eyes and smiled.

Another gem from the deepest root of Yggdrasil. Pagan mysticism to the core. Nature uses Wardruna to speak to us and i'm glad i have heart to hear.

Too many of my friends are "hooked" on the main stream music played non-stop on the radio. When i introduce them to music outside of North America they cant believe there is anything outside of the radio. Thank you for helping me to let others know there is something deeper than the fluff played on the airwaves

I love how the drum seems to imitate heart beating in Wardruna's songs, it brings something hypnotic

it's a Norwegian dialect written in the Nynorsk spelling reform. you can tell when it's Old Norse/Icelandic and when it's Norwegian like this: Old Norse and Icelandic have the letters þ and ð, for the "th" sounds, but the modern Scandinavian languages don't have those letters. also fun fact since we're discussing both of these languages: in the Wardruna songs which have Old Norse lyrics, those lyrics have been directly plucked from ancient sources, be it runestones or Norse manuscripts. as opposed to the songs in Nynorsk, where the lyrics are all original and composed by Wardruna/Einar themselves

Always that hyperactive feeling mixed the epicness, happiness and a bit of nostalgia for the nature, every time that I listen to Wardruna.. every song has it's own power, not just a simple melody! I noticed that when they sing the part "elden tvingar deg or meg" repeatedly it comes offbeat every second time. It's what makes the section groove like it does. Genius! As a drummer, I really appreciate Einars feel for rythm and how he creates original rythm sections.

When I woke up today and saw that Wardruna had released a new song, I nearly jumped in excitement. Today is my birthday, and what a wonderful gift this song is. Einar has found a way to meaningfully express something that we all have most likely felt at some point in our lives, which is the feeling of being lost in life, with no direction. Sitting alone beneath the mountain paints a picture of solitude, where the lonesome one can't muster the energy to live life under the weight of his doubts. Shadow comes, and shadow here may be understood as several things. For me, it was depression, for some it might be God, whatever God means to you. The lonesome one asks for direction, for meaning, but as the sun sets, Shadow fades away and the lonesome one is forced to light a fire. As the flames blaze, moving as if in a dance with the breeze, the lonesome one realizes that all the answers he is looking for can be found deep within himself; all he had to do was have the courage to look deep enough (which may be aided by the presence of the fire, as it lights the way). Therefore, the fire might be understood as a friend, a family member, a pet, or even our own determination and courage, and, with its support, we overcome the greatest obstacles. Then, we can climb the mountain. If Lyfjaberg is included in the album (I don't know if it will be), it would be the perfect follow-up for Skugge. Thank you so much for creating this piece of art, Einar, and for touching my soul so deeply by telling a story that is so close to many of your fans' hearts. May your music long be the fire that lights our paths to self-understanding. Tusen takk

@@user-fu2in2kr9x No. Valhalla is a place for warriors. The Einherjar are Odin's chosen to aid him in the final battle of Ragnarok. Those who live honorably but aren't warriors have no place there; instead those people end up in the golden hall of Gimle which rises after Ragnarok,and before that in Helheim. Helheim isn't necessarily hell as one may imagine,but rather a place for non-warrior spirits to rest. According to some,it is split in two: one half for the evil,dishonorable and corrupted souls, and the other half for souls who simply didn't die in battle. Baldr went to Helheim after he died,yet he was the purest of all gods,good to the core.

the album is masterpiece. I listened to it while walking in snowy fields in my town in france, that was one of the most magical experiences of my life.

Probably one of the best songs written within Wardruna. Introspection through Nature...

Belgian here. This song speaks to my Gallian heart. The darkness inside the magical poetry got me really excited. You guys need to make more like this. It's a lost art and I love it so much.

Surely blessed by the gods. They must call him Einar the Epic. Every time he presents his work to the world of those who believe in the gods people heal, people learn, people rejoice. He touches peoples souls. Thank you Einar and Wardruna for the masterpiece of your craft. I got my mom to give Wardruna a chance after working on her for a while and now she’s as excited as I am when new music comes out. I preordered the album for her for Christmas ☺️

I had the opportunity to see Wardruna last week and they were fantastic! The concert had been postponed twice due to Covid so it was a long wait. In fact, I was talking to a guy who worked at the venue and he said it had been exactly 1000 days from the day they announced that Wardruna was coming to our area to the day they actually got to perform. It was a great show and well worth the wait! Now I can hardly wait for them to come back.

Wardruna isn't music you hear, it's music you experience. It shakes you to the core and you feel it in your bones. This is that rare brand of music that just radiates pure power.

The echo is the shadow returning his answers. At the beginning of the song he is talking about being at the foot of the mountain talking to his shadow. The end he is shouting for answers and the echo answers him. It's a bit of irony that the echo and shadow can't speak but still give the answer

In times of weakness and when my shadow self overtakes my heart with desires of hedonistic and selfish desires. I do dance and sing this song to remember my centre and nourish myself and the loved ones I have the fortune of walking alongside. takk for alltid.

Wardruna has always touched something deep within my soul that I didn't know was there before. Thank you so much for making this music.

Wardruna is the real deal, every time I listen to them I feel more connected to the old ways.

One of very few musicians that can’t make a single bad song it seems. It’s traditional and modern, simplistic folkmusic and catchy refrains all at once. Sweet esthetics too, with a positive, spiritual view of history and runes. We need this now more than ever, when ignorant fools try to hijack our heritage and runes.

This song, and "Lyfjaberg", are my favorites. Their lyrics are simply magic.

There is a deep meaning in this song. I love it, as all your work! Can't wait for next week!!!

Wardruna bringing us the best art as always. I can't even explain how deep their songs are to me, it always speaks to something inside me that I can't even describe what it is. Very powerfull and spiritual!

Reading and seeing whats going on around the world they say its the end of times ... I close my eyes and listen to this and idk why but I picture myself going into battle with swords and axes and ride up on a horse in the shadows

Never heard this before. I listened to this twice. Both times when the song transitions from the first part to the second part, the tempo changes with the vocals and when the drum kicks in again... just after that something about that gives me goosebumps. Wow.

As a Norse Pagan who is beginning Jungian Shadow Work, I must say, the timing for the release of this vodeo is perfect! I feel that the gods are on my side this year, that my hamingja favors me, and that my connection with nature will continue to deepen in 2021! My Shadow inside, will be my friend... been a fan of Wardruna and Einar for many years now and i must say every piece they come out with enlightens my soul and fills me with life thank you Wardruna for the great pieces over the years... Skal. also a side note listening to this as snow falls around you is an amazing feeling.

I don't always listen to Skugge in my car, but when I do, so does Toronto. Actually I do always listen to Skugge in my car...I cannot stop playing this song! With Wardruna you might first just hear the song and get immediately hooked in to it, then you look up the lyrics and it elevates listening to it to a whole new level, then you see the masterpiece videos they come up with for the song and I just don't even have the words for that experience

What a perfect way to end the day just before bed.
