Lyrics:
Eiris sazun idisi,
sazun hera duoder;
suma hapt heptidun,
suma heri lezidun,
suma clubodun
umbi cuoniouuidi:
insprinc haptbandun,
infar vigan dun
Þann gel ek þér fyrstan
þann kveða fjölnýtan
þann gól Rindr Rani
at þú of öxl skjótir
því er þér atalt þykkir
sjalfr leið þú sjalfan þik
Fjon thvae eg af mer fjanda minna
Ran og reithi rikra manna
Þann gel ek þér annan
ef þú árna skalt
viljalauss á vegum
Urðar lokur
haldi þér öllum megum
er þú á sinnum sér
Þann gel ek þér inn þriðja
ef þér þjóðáar
falla at fjörlotum
Horn ok Ruðr
snúisk til heljar meðan
en þverri æ fyr þér
Þann gel ek þér inn fjórða
ef þik fjándr standa
görvir á galgvegi
hugr þeim hverfi
til handa þér
ok snúisk þeim til sátta sefi
Þann gel ek þér inn fimmta
ef þér fjöturr verðr
borinn at boglimum
leysigaldr læt ek
þér fyr legg of kveðinn
ok stökkr þá láss af limum
en af fótum fjöturr
Þann gel ek þér inn sétta
ef þú á sjó kemr
meira en menn viti
logn ok lögr
gangi þér í lúðr saman
ok léi þér æ friðdrjúgrar farar
Þann gel ek þér inn sjaunda
ef þik sækja kemr
frost á fjalli háu
hræva kulði
megi-t þínu holdi fara
ok haldisk æ lík at liðum
Þann gel ek þér inn átta
ef þik úti nemr
nótt á niflvegi
at því firr megi
þér til meins gera
kristin dauð kona
Þann gel ek þér inn níunda
ef þú við inn naddgöfga
orðum skiptir jötun
máls ok mannvits
þér á minni ok hjarta
gnóga of gefit

@@ZmeevArthur Maybe (just from listening over and over), it's part of the Fáfnismál, the infamous stanza #16 or 17 where the 'helm of awe/terror' is mentioned? I hear this part: "bar ek of alda sonum, meðan ek of menjum lák; einn rammari hugðumk öllum vera, fannk-a ek svá marga mögu." You are right though, coming from two different eddas they don't make literal sense together, but more sense as a 'theme' being one of ultimate protection. Okay I absolutely love this conversation the Old Norse being sang is known as the washing verse and in English it says I wash my hands of my enemies hatred the greed and wrath of powerful men. The Old Norse we know today is based on the 12th century Icelandic reconstruction of the language so yes you would be correct in saying Icelandic is the closest relative to the Old Norse language in the fact that it's where a dead language was reconstructed so normally there would be Icelandic influences in the New Old Norse language

I still have no idea what this comment format means. No matter how many of them I read , and they're basically the only way most people write comments any more, I just can't get my head around what they are supposed to mean. Fight your depression. I know it's so difficult sometimes. It's like having someone pour a truck load of quick drying concrete down on top of you before you can even get out of bed but the rare occasions when I've fought it, it has changed the entire day for better. Don't let it hold you down. Break it bit by bit. Bit by bit.

(Fjon, I wash off my enemies, theft and anger of rich men.) Then next I will chant thee, If needs thou must travel, And wander a purposeless way: The bolts of Urth Shall on every side Be thy guards on the road thou goest. Then third I will chant thee, If threatening streams The danger of death shall bring: Yet to Hel shall turn Both Horn and Ruth, And before thee the waters shall fail. (Fjon, I wash off my enemies, theft and anger of rich men.) Then fourth I will chant thee, If come thy foes On the gallows-way against thee: Into thine hands Shall their hearts be given, And peace shall the warriors wish. (Fjon, I wash off my enemies, theft and anger of rich men.) Then fifth I will chant thee, If fetters perchance Shall bind thy bending limbs: O'er thy thighs do I chant A loosening-charm, And the lock is burst from the limbs, And the fetters fall from the feet. Then sixth I will chant thee, If storms on the sea Have might unknown to man: Yet never shall wind Or wave do harm, And calm is the course of thy boat. Then seventh I chant thee, If frost shall seek To kill thee on lofty crags: The fatal cold Shall not grip thy flesh, And whole thy body shall be. (Fjon, I wash off my enemies, theft and anger of rich men.) Then eighth will I chant thee, If ever by night Thou shalt wander on murky ways: Yet never the curse of a Christian woman From the dead shall do thee harm. Then ninth will I chant thee, If needs thou must strive With a warlike giant in words: Thy heart good store Of wit shall have, And thy mouth of words full wise. If it's mead made with fruit it's called a melomel. With herbs, a methyglin. With grapes, pyment. With pears, Perry. With apples, cyser. With maple syrup, acerglin. If you burn the honey before fermentation, it's called a bochet. If it's made with malt, it's called a braggot. And there's a bunch of other types with their own names.

American here: Sometime I need a break from the modern pop songs, especially later in the 2010s, alot of early 2010s pop songs, rap song, and rock songs are actually pretty good in my opinion; none beats this when a break from cheap modern music is needed.
