Walmart Advanced Vehicle Experience Concept Truck
The Walmart Advanced Vehicle Experience concept truck is the latest in our fleet efficiency program. The one-of-a-kind prototype offers a whole package of firsts. The tractor has very advanced aerodynamics and is powered by a prototype advanced turbine-powered, range-extending series hybrid powertrain. The trailer is made almost exclusively with carbon fiber, saving around 4,000 pounds which can then be used to carry more freight.

So you can afford Transformers but don't have enough employees to keep more than 3 registers open? #WalmartStruggle

this is cool but what I want to see are faster check-out lines
Two other topics Walmart should consider... 4-wheel steering shopping carts like at Ikea and installing cell phone repeater hubs in the stores so you can actually use your cell phone in their steel buildings. Currently, while shopping, I have to go outside to find out if we need milk.
A black trailer will get hot as hell in the sun.
This is a long overdue project and is exciting to see come together I am truly grateful to all who made this a reality and would love to be a part of anything that advances our Over the road trucking fleets I would love to see this adopted by every trucking industry in our nation. As a Truck driver and futurist I have always been disgusted by our lack of improvement in overall design and function of Such crucial components to our economy. Thank You!!!
This truck is a beautiful piece of engineering, both the exterior and interior designs prove to be the best on the market, i can't drive a truck but being in the cockpit would be life changing
When I showed my two sons this video, they were very excited to see what y'all are doing "for real". They have been life long creators with legos, Lincoln Logs, bionicals, kinex, mind craft, blockheads, play-dough, clay, etc. My sons can blow you away with imaginary created vehicles of all sorts, personna, creatures, and the like. The things they put together can rival any Star Wars, Star Trek, Alien anything you can think of, and they were truly very excited to see that y'all are coming together (all these companies work together to create something totally cool?? For real??? Well, duhhh!!!) to make something, for real, happen!!!!!!! WE LOVE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I did not know that walmart was designing trucks now!!! Good job on that engine and turbine combination..
That is quite a rig!! I don't know how practical it is with all the new technology, but it is a big step in the right direction, in my opinion. Keep working at it!!
I live in the UK so we don't have Walmart here (well, they own a company called ASDA), but I love the design of this lorry. Every engineer knows that a small tweak here plus 100 other small tweaks can result in big gains, so I like the bit where the Capstone guy explained about how the turbine has air bearings (so no oil) and is air cooled (so no radiator) so the truck has a more aerodynamic cowling and no engine lubricant to recycle.
Well I did not expect Walmart to be one of the first off the block in this type of leading edge design in the USA. Well done.
Beautiful, I love the creativity and overall concept. Brilliant Turbine tech mixed with Carbon Fibre, amazing
Awesome concept! Hope to see similar trucks on the road in the near future!
Great video and the truck and trailer looks amazing. I really hope we'll start seeing these trucks on the road soon. Hopefully Walmart will set the precedent for other companies to follow suit.
Wow! That carbon fiber trailer!! Can't imagine the cost of that only!! Amazing!
These trucks and trailers look nice. Can't wait for them to be out on the road
This is a great demonstration of the concepts currently in play, across the truck build industry, and every other consumer-use industry. Everything about this unit looks to have great potential. It's a prototype, prototypes are built upon. The only thing missing from these comments is a person speaking as a driver, or on behalf of whom the perceive as drivers; who might actually be bright enough to make a sensible comment. I find is so disappointing that people continue to heap so much negativity onto a dramatic economy-progressing project such as this and so many other like examples! The fools who think that trucking is ALL about the Driver! Drivers who's thought process works like some who've commented here.... we do NOT need. Yes, Drivers are critical to a trucking operation, as are Planners, Designers, Scientists, Logistic Planners, Loaders, Paymasters, Mechanics, ... it goes on and on... Everyone is important, and almost everyone is needed. However, no operation is going to flourish (hence, the jobs within it will not flourish) IF that organisation is staffed by ANY of the fools who have contributed to the raft of negative comments on this story. It's fairly simple.... Grow up, act as mature, and consider not only yourself! Even if you are important, you will not be the only, or most, important component! Geez! Bill Gibson-Patmore
Saw it live at Science Fair (DC Conventions) this weekend. Looks very slick.
Very cool, can't wait to see these on the road
awesome piece of engineering, hoping to see them on the road in the near future
Huge step in the right direction...amazing accomplishment!
I remember the day Mr. Walton plowed into the backend of a Wal-Mart Rig. The Driver of the rig had never had an accident until the Chairman bumped into him!
Looks amazing. Cant wait to see one arrive at our store.
I hope we see these new trucks in production and on the road soon. I'd love to drive one.
Seen this on google images never knew what it was looks really good!
That's Sweet the Truck drivers are Amazing I'd Be Happy to see that on the Road
the aerodynamic of the truck through snow storms will build up terribly on that nose. Love the seat n steering in the middle. Natural gas awesome. Dig the carbon material better. Beautiful truck really. Would I rather see that money be used better, of course, but is what it is. Will be interesting if this truck makes it public and how well it holds up! Good Luck Wallys

So, Walmart is now getting into the automotive industry? Interesting. Very, very interesting. Personally, I think it would be cool to see some advanced concepts like these unseat the current, backwards paradigm. Hell, if these are half as good as they say, I could see some potential customers lining up for them.
Yep, Walmart just spent a bunch of money on something which they will never use on the road.
Very cool design, neat to see this kind of forward thinking to improve fuel economy, driver safety and overall cost that Walmart can pass on to customers :)
This is really cool! I'm so happy to see this rapid leap in technology! I can't wait to see these things on the road.
Awesome concept, this whole design is fantastic!
This truck is a good step for Wal-mart and the trucking industry. This is reinvention at its best.
I can just imagine not just Walmart but all of America having these trucks on the road in the near future. Win for the environemnt
good concept... Hope to see this soon
So much win. They really outdid themselves on the design.
Like the new center seating concept.
Necessity is the mother of all invention. And this vehicle is probably the beginning of the future of the commercial trucking industry's ability to continue to exist and flourish in a time of prohibitively high and ever rising fuel costs and emissions regulations. This is an exciting vehicle, and i'm actually relieved that someone is taking the step to create it. R&D is the very most expensive part of new cutting edge vehicle platforms such as this one, and it takes people willing to sacrifice and invest in it for the long haul.....Pun most definitely intended... As an American concerned deeply for the future of our nation's economy, and the world's as well; I thank you all who are involved in this project. Keep it up
it looks.... AMAZING!!!
Cool nice to see Walmart show they are the power in the world of production
Listen to two of the Exec's speak compared to the other one, how much more professional they come across being so well spoken! That is what Toastmasters and the likes will give you, even everyday people can learn to speak so well and that will probably make a difference in many aspects of your life!
amazing truck....hope it comes to fruition
Great innovation, Excited to see the progress of technology.
Wow, pretty wild new look to a conventional tractor/trailer.
great scott... what a beautifull peice of modern enginering
This is an amazing prototype transport system. Looking at the credits at the end, quite a few manufacturers collaborated to create this game changing product mover for Walmart. This system could dramatically lower supply chain costs for Walmart and expand the edge they currently enjoy as a global mass retailer. Hopefully this technology will be available to other companies as well.
AWESOME DESIGN....... GREAT TEAM WORK
That looks sick!
all that technology, and you put that steering wheel ?
Pretty wicked looking.
It will never see production.
Great job Sam
That thing looks like it would be a sauna in the summer. But in the winter you could keep your 6' stacks and install a wood stove.
not sure why you guys don't have any comments but this just makes fully electric trucks more feasible
i like it and hop to see this on the road soon.
Looks very awesome and futuristic.
Great video! Hats off to the audio and video people in showcasing this vehicle! Man I would love to see this thing be created and used. CNG all the way! Make it happen :)
Thats Awesome. Looks like a spaceship.
that truck is so cool!
This is superb technology. Think how use of these materials and concepts can change the auto industry. Welcome to the 21st Century!
great job thank's for the post...
Very impressive Wal-Mart!
that looks really cool
Finally an aerodynamic truck!!!
SO WHAT KEEPS THE BEARINGS COOL IN TRAFFIC?
Walmart Divers doesn't want this fancy truck... They want you to increase their wages... It will help them not this concept truck !!!

I'd drive it , looks like it would be easy to park. Only change I'd do would be to incorporate a center display for engine and drive train monitoring functions , then use the side screens as monitors for rear view cameras for blind spot elimination .
Looks Awesome
It's a new year, and time for futuristic stuff. Yay.
Very nice the nose almost looks like a sports cars nose.
Wal-Mart is a beast and always looking to get better it will not surprise me that this is how it will be autonomous is set into this Pete for sure.. spare no expense Wal-Mart safety and economy is always there number one priority.. I just want one..
Wow hope we see one of these whilst we are in the States in August!!
This just brings back flashbacks to job orientation videos.
Hey. How about electric motors in ALL wheels, allowing for some cool traction control.
WOW!!! I would love to be one of the first drivers to drive it.
I think it's a cool truck. Long as us humans maintain employment with all these technological changes. I'm all for it
That is awesome. ;-) keep up the good work. ;-)
That is awesome. Beautiful, well built, and technologically superior. I want to buy a sedan and pickup from Walmart next!
I love to see how it feels to drive one of those trucks...Of course, since it's a single seat it's hard to put a partner somewhere.
4000lbs lighter trailer. That would make that trailer easy to rollover when empty during high winds. I'm surprised no one mentioned this.
Great idea walmart and Peterbilt.
Sharp looking rig.
That's awesome! We need that for our business I think.
So now the driver has to dock blindsided no matter which direction they come from? All that money for a truck that saves a little bit of fuel, and meanwhile still underpaying everybody who works for them...

+Candisa yes, hit it right on the head here, plus delivering made in China crap to boot!!
Its sad how the super truck wont even be implemented. When I see things like this in shows. I just ignore it. Its just like having a piece of steak waving it at a dogs face and teasing the dog, but never ever giving the dog the steak at all. I really hate it when companies show people in cars and truck shows things like this. I just make sure to stay away from those types of areas and move on to more realistic areas. When companies do things like this, i start to lose all respect for them. all these years is nothing but concept, concept, concept. But they never get released or implemented.
This Walmart truck should have been the vehicle concept form for Galvatron in Transformers Age of Extinction. It looks so cool.
The fact that it is a Peterbuilt is good enough for me! Too ad the trailer not a Wabash, but Greatdane is good to.
Very nice truck Great Job Walmart!!!!
Wow, looks cool!

It will be interesting to see it in "real world" use.. of course it will be a shocker to see it out on the highway.. and once the costs come down, how long before other commercial fleets adopt this technology? I remember trucking through Cleveland Oh in the mid- 80's and seeing some concept trucks out on the highway, but the only thing that came close was when Kenworth put out the "anteater" tractor in the mid-80's I like the idea of the driving sitting in the middle of the cab, more like a cockpit.. As a former OTR Truck Driver, it's exciting to see this..
Nice job guys
Gentlemen, Your doing a fine job with this design. As a professional driver I can appreciate what your doing here. I would love to drive this truck for you. Promote it and bring the industry out of 1950. This is as close to my design as anyone has gotten. I had this truck in my head when i was 10 yrs old. That was some years ago. I think I can help you with a little tweaking of your designs here. But I love the radical departure from Square hoods square trailer fronts, poor attempts at aerodynamics , without really committing to changing , fundamentally what makes a truck a truck. Truckers are a funny bunch, to much change to quick, and you scare them, But if the design is good practical, and cool, they will embrace it completely. Your getting there. I would love to be a part of this. I've tried in the past to contact people in your industry, buy I'm a little guy in a big pond. So, Maybe someone up high will see this post and think to look me up. I'll stop back here from time to time,to see if anyone on your end is interested in my particular Skills, and experience. Thanks, good work.
cool concept.
Nice truck- Real nice
Wonderful to see private enterprise developing such a great product. Since I teach in the "systems engineering" program at Johns Hopkins, it would be interesting to see this project from that perspective, i.e, how were the overall system requirements established and built in?
can't wait to drive it :)
it looks really cool =)
I passed this on I64 a few days ago. It was being pulled by a real tractor.
it's so cool! I'd love to drive this. wonder how it dose in winter driving?
1. How about having a mechanism between the tractor and trailer that prevents jack knifing? Either a pair of air cylinders on each side going from tractor to trailer or some kind of motor and gear mechanism like the pivot on a crane. 2. Also add steering to the trailer wheels so they can negotiate small city intersections and loading dock yards. 3. Can you buy a semi tractor with a driven front axle? I've watched Ice Road Truckers and ask why those trucks aren't all wheel drive.
