Walleye Fishing Lake Erie (CATCH & COOK) | Field Trips with Robert Field

Спорт

In this episode, Joseph Harrick and I are heading far out onto Lake Erie in Ohio with Mark Dietrich of Tri-Fin Charters to chase BIG walleye to take home for dinner. We're fishing for them two ways, both trolling and casting, and are learning a ton about Lake Erie fishing along the way. Then, back in my RV, I'm showing you a quick, easy and DELICIOUS recipe you can use for any fish.

Here (Western Canada) some walleye are 50 ft deep in the fall in 100 ft of water. Yet we have caught some in shallow bays fly fishing for Northerns in warm weather. Same with the summertime, suspended groups in at 37 ft in 50 ft of water last trip on the flooded section of the river system. Some are shallow, some stay deep.

We used to camp at Sandusky a lot when I was younger. Did a lot of perch, walleye, and bass fishing on Lake Erie. Caight a lot of bass around the Bass Islands on the western end of Lake Erie. Used dipsy divers and Erie Dearies. My Brother had a 38 ft sailboat on Lake Erie. We did a lot of sailing and fishing on the lake. I grew up in Ohio and remember when they said Lake Erie was dying. It sure has gotten cleaner. The zebra Muscles are heavy there, but they filter the water and it has gotten cleaner.

It's ended up pretty good, most times. The best was sliced turkey, a little chorizo, spinach, some peppers, mushrooms, and about 3 different kinds of cheese. I'll be incorporating this idea for sure. Thanks as always for your great videos.

The weather on the lake is true it can be clear and like glass you get out and half hour later you got five foot waves and gets crazy quick I've been got many times in stuff like that. The lake overall is not that deep 40 to 60 feet out in the shipping channel it's around 75 to 80 feet deepest part is on the Canadian side near long point there it gets over 200 feet.

I'll try your recipe, and you can try mine ? I like to use Lemon Pepper with Garlic powder & Butter ! I think either way is WIN, WIN ! Back in the mid-80's, I went on a charter out of Sandusky, Ohio. We killed the walleyes ! To keep fishing, we tossed some fish to other boaters who weren't so lucky ! 1 oz. lead-head jigs with shiners did the trick ! My last cast and the Captain said "Bring 'em in boys, time to go home" ! I yelled ""HOLD ON, FISH ON"" ! IT WAS THE BIGGEST WALLEYE OF THE DAY ! It weighed in at 12 pounds. The Captain asked to use my fish picture for his brochure, and gave me a small walleye pin for my hat ! AH, THE MEMORIES !

We do something similar here in Rhode island, but it's seabass or blackfish we do this with instead. I usually add a bit of kimchi and rice to make Korean tacos

Lake erie. Last week i caught a 8.68 pound walleye 29 1/2 inches. And a 7.0 pound walleye 28 1/2 inches on the same color spoon. I used a dark blue stinger spoon. The blue is a REALLY big recommend if you wanna destroy some nice walleye this year. Also we bought 6 after i caught the 8 pounder and lost 3😑😂

Drum are a member of the croaker family and I consider them trash fish. I have heard that you need to go deeper if you are catching drum, they run a little higher in the water column with silver bass and others.

Downtown St.paul and Minneapolis in the Mississippi River can be insane. I can text you a pick of me with a 27in walleye that I caught from shore! Also during the summer big Flathead Catfish roll through. My biggest is 60lbs
