Walleye Fishing Lake Michigan (CATCH & COOK) | Field Trips Wisconsin

Спорт

In this episode I'm linking up with Kaitlin and Josh Woodward (www.woodwardfishing.com) to do some trolling for walleye in the legendary fishery around Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin on Lake Michigan. Halfway through the day we're running in to cook up a beer-battered, fried walleye shore lunch using Kaitlin's favorite recipe.
Comment below and tell me your favorite way to cook walleye! Or what's another good freshwater fish I should try to catch and cook up?

This was some of the best fish I've ever eaten in my life. Who else loves walleye? What's your go-to recipe for them? And what other species should I target while I'm in the midwest?!

I bread mine with Ritz brand garlic butter coating. Egg wash, breading twice. Drop in the deep fryer, comes out amazing! That and beer batter. I’m going to try and smoke some walleye soon, the smoked steelhead is good, I bet the walleye comes out better.

Over here in Europe our "walleye" subspecies - in Germany called zander (sander lucioperca, yours sander vitreus) - is one of the most popular eating fish. Well, I personally don't like eating any fish, just love fishing. 😅

Mind you, I like lemon and dill, not necessarily blackened. BTW, I am Kaitlin's Uncle. She's been a great angler since she was just a wee one. So is her mom, my youngest sister. So if you are using a dry mix dredge, instead of egg as a binder, I highly suggest unsweet soy-milk. You get an umami flavor, and just a hint of sweetness that accentuates the fish. On the opposite end of the spectrum, catfish omelettes are great.

Sorry no shore lunch as the sodium is so high in it and it's batter besides. People who batter fish don't know what the fish really taste like. Breading is the way to go because you taste fish not all the batter. Restaurant don't even use batter because you can't taste the fish. And if they do use batter they are not crowded and you get served right away. If they use breading then you have to wait to get served because there is a big crowd.

@@YakFishField Hey no disrespect as you had no clue about breading versus batter. It's like the south prefers coke over pepsi products. Or dishes like in Nebraska liking cinnamon rolls with there chili. I have not tried that one yet but i will not knock it before i try it. And if you want better fish try "Andy's Breading" they have original and cajun. Some people by both of equal size packages and mix them together. That just gives it a hint of cajun and not as strong. I use this on chicken and shrimp also. Even thou they make a special one for chicken.
