The wacky rig is one of the most simple techniques that we have in bass fishing. You can simply put a hook through the center of a straight tail worm and you have a wacky rig.
Most of the time to catch bass on a wacky rig all you need to do is cast it out and let it fall on a slack line. The bait is going to do all the work and bass cant resist the slow fall that a wacky rig provides.
However there is another way to fish a wacky rig and a few places you can fish it where other people aren't that can lead to catching some big bass.
BassFishingHQ is dedicated to teaching people how to catch more and bigger bass. I will go over different bass fishing tips & techniques that will put more fish in the boat or on the shore. Whether you are just starting out or a seasoned tournament angler, my goal is to help you catch more bass.

    Thank you for sharing the tips here. I have been killing the bass lately with the finesse wacky rig and downsized worm, I really appreciate the videos and explanations/technical details you provide. Just posted vids using some techniques you talk about, used a light spinning rod with straight 8lb mono line and small hook/small work, so much fun from a kayak.

    Everybody throws their senko wacky-rigged, but I like throwing it weightless texas rigged. I think it gets as many bites, gets hung up less, and I lose less senkos.

    I've been catching almost all my bass on a wacky rigged Creme Scoundrel worm in natural color that looks like a real worm but I use a 2/0 circle hook. It let's me catch even small bass that I might lose if I had to set the hook and I don't have to worry about timing when to set the hook because they just start pulling the line or I see my line start moving in either direction and I'll just start reeling and it'll put the hook in the corner of their mouth perfectly without worrying about them gut hooking themselves.

    Hey Ty, when I fish the wacky rig I use the spring from a ball point pin and run it through the bait where I want to hook it (trim spring as needed). Helps hold the bait on the hook and catches multiple fish on same bait. Another thing I do sometimes is use a slip bobber with a bobberstop to keep the rig at a certain depth . With this method you can keep the rig in a spot longer and it really works great.

    Awesome tips. The wacky rig is my go-to. I fish it weightless, or on 1/16th, 3/32nd, or 1/8th wacky jig heads. I use the VMC's or the ones that Gambler Lures offers. There's a local tackle shop that has their own brand that I'll use as well. When I go weightless, I'll have to try it on the larger hook. I also love your tip about fishing it just under the surface. I had thought about that this week while I was on vacation (had a staycation and fished my local lake just about every day). Once thing I noticed about the wacky rig in my local lake is everyone seems to laugh at it.... but it catches fish for me. I alternate between the ned rig and a wacky rig, but the wacky rig I have on my boat year round. Can't wait to get out this weekend and try fishing it under the surface. Thanks again for your video!

    I use a Garcia Vendetta 7" medium/fast rod on my wacky rig for same reason. Aside from budget, the Garcia mediums seem to be a but stiffer than a lot of other medium rods...almost like amnestying 'extra medium' or 'medium well'. Enough flex to get a Nic whip for casting weightless Senkos, but then a bit of extra power to reach out there and power the fish through some vegetation if need be. 30lb braid to 10-12lb flouro leader. Essentially the spinning rig version of my fluke baitcasting rig, which I've also thrown a wacky on if on a weighted hook. Might switch to 20-lb braid, but Im happy with the sensitivity and softness of the 30, and again it helps horse them out Shen they get into the vegetation. In addition to your methods which I also fish, dropping the wacky off the ledge of lilys lots of times gets hammered.

    I only watch a few Fishing channels, I love your stuff. I started wacky rigging after watching a video you did and one from Tactical Bassin, you both are my go to’s when I want info. I kinda got away from soft plastics for a while. Second day of using a weighted wacky set up, I hooked into a true big, lost him but it was incredible. I’ve caught several since then. My home lake is VERY grassy, so no matter what I have to have a weedless set up. I’m curious, if your fishin an area that is super grassy, are more or less likely to go soft plastic. Chatterbait has really killed it for me at this grassy lake!!!!

I prefer a 3/8 over 1/2 And white is an absolute must, after white they have one that’s pumpkin and the blade is pumpkin also. It’s not silver or gold it’s dark. I’ve also had luck with a red thunder cricket, Those 3 are all you need.

    @pagekisselburg3710 yeah, never caught anything on a creature bait, I did get something on the line with one but it was massive and snapped my line off a boulder, probably a carp. Wacky and Texas work great where I am long as they have a good scent on them and drop shots work pretty good certain places. Also both from the bank and a boat but I usually just troll when on a boat.

  • @ericsh8576

    @ericsh8576

    When you get a bite, if you watch the line while it is semi-slack you will typically notice that the line will continue to go out or to the side. Wait about 2/3 of a second after the line starts jumping and then start reeling. I started fishing the wacky rig last year and it has saved my bacon from being skunked a number of times. During the fall, if you find a school of fish you can catch one after another with a wacky rig.

    I find it funny there's a term for rigging a worm like this. I feel like anyone who's brand new to fishing will instinctively want to bait a hook in this manner only to be told by someone it's not the correct way and then later find out it's a special bass technique.

    @@michaelrodriguez2973 for sure man , good luck out there. 6 to 8 pound line on a medium or medium light is pretty good in my opinion for spinning rod finesse presentations. you could cast a crappie jig with that

    I love 8lb braid on a spinning rod. You feel everything and it casts very well. The line comes off way easier with finesse vs if you try a baitcaster. I never have finesse on a baitcaster. Take a spinning rod for finesse and baitcast for power crankin or swim jigs.

    Concur. They paid for themselves in less than a month of weekend wacky and neko rigging. Rigs the bait straight, hols it securely, and does not tear the bait on the cast. Best o-ring system I've tried.
