    @@yessir6919 Honestly though, that was probably not an expensive scene, it was mostly just one repeated motion, a 3D particle effect that they could move around as the needed and the rest are still images and motion tweens. The secret to this was planning. That's why Kyoani look so good despite not actually being more expensive than other Anime, they invest a lot in pre-production and they design schedules so that they can get the most out of their animators while paying them fairly and not overworking them. Proper planning and vision is the secret to good anime.

    I gotta say. For as many incredible action scenes Shangri-La Frontier gave us with this season, amazing battles with great animation, immersive scenarions into a gaming ambience, and usage of gaming mechanics to overpower the system, this was the scene that stuck with me the most. This scene is something I've never experienced before. A smith giving his very essence, decades of dedication to his craft, and enough wisdom to fill many books, all being brought down to mold this pair of weapons. I never saw a scene like this before, a truly unique experience like nothing before. I'm completely speechless with how amazing it is and feels.

    This actually has a purpose in smithing: The beat of the song regulates the beats of the hammer, and if you have a specific song for a specific blade, then quenching at say, the end of the second chorus and reheating for another verse and refrain afterwards will produce what has historically been the best results for that blade. I think the method is Jomon? The Ironsands of Japan are quite poor quality Iron, so a method like this that is known to work well, would be extremely useful.

    @@ProperDaveXD001 Even then, the more you think about it the more it makes sense: It's a craft you can't rush nor can you wait since the metal's properties change as it cools down, so that'd give a good measure of rhythm and durations. You could even expect songs to have been written for this exact purpose if that's true, wouldn't be crazy.

  • @rannnoch

    @rannnoch

    Indeed, lower quality iron (pig iron as some call it) had to be heated and worked many times before it would be pure and dense enough to be used for something like arms, armour, or even building materials; it makes sense intuitively that working the metal in a proper rhythm would yield more consistent results as well as be more efficient over time. This is also the basis for the "katana folded over 1000 times" meme, it's not so much that folding it a thousand times makes it automatically superior to other swords of fewer folds, its more like if you didn't fold it enough times it would just crack and/or shatter as soon as it hits something harder, ie steel made from high quality, low carbon iron. But anyway... back to listening to this banger of a song.

It is effort and hope and love and care. When you truly put everything you are into the making of a thing. That is a masterpiece. This scene is the culmination of artists, writers, voice actors, and sound designers putting everything they have into a scene not even 10 minutes long. And what for? In 20 years barely anyone will remember this show. In 40 you might not even be able to watch it anymore. Why? Cause it meant something to them. Because they loved what they did. Because they cared. I mean, sure could be something he signs to himself to impart a bit of his soul into his work. Yet, like to think that each weapon he forges. All of them have a different song. You know what, it just occurred to me just the level of special treatment that Sunraku is receiving from the game with this. Sunraku is the only person out of presumably millions of players who has heard this song. The game developers made the song specifically for Sunraku or any other player who represented the .001 percent of players I guess the game considered to be a very cream of the crop of players. The idea of unique quests that a very small percentage of players could access is an interesting idea and could be the stuff of gaming legends. Maybe Genshin impact could have a quest hidden to most players except the very best. Something like that would probably make all players strive harder to get good at the game. There are a lot of interesting ideas in this series that would be cool if implemented in real games. It also raises the question if the song was AI made or a very hidden easter egg by the developers. Futhermore, are Vysache and Emul even really AI or are they game developers who garnered a special affection for Sunraku?

    While I see your point, I think that would sadly kill the game if ever implemented in Genshin. It'd be one thing if this was implemented into a game where you just buy it once or at most pay a monthly sub to keep playing. But in a game with Gacha elements where you can give money for better results (New characters and stronger weapons and more resin for more artifact attempts), that'd create an environment where players would feel forced to pay money to reach the level of other high-end players. One of the many reasons Genshin has avoided falling off is the lack of a PVP feature. With no players to compete against, F2P and slow spender games don't actually feel like they're behind, allowing them to enjoy the game without truly feeling a power creep unless they try and compare themselves to other players doing Abyss etc. Bringing such a feature would destroy this harmony, and break all good will players have with the company. TLDR: Don't think it's a good idea. People would feel forced to P2W and burn out due to the possibility of throwing money at the screen.

    unfortunately, at least for now with current technology and the ideals of upper management being to make as much money as possible spending possibly hundreds of dollars to make 1 scene or quest line that... maybe 30 people will ever see is just not feasible (paying the songwriters, actors, animators, programmers, etc. is just too expensive) But we gamers can dream. This'd be such a cool thing to have in actual games.

    It would only work in a single player game for game balance reasons. Look at WoW they tried to have faction specific classes, and even then it was something that was completely open. Ultimately that went away for balance reasons. Having unique quests for just the top players would result in huge balance issues, unless it is basically unique based on the scenario and not the perks.

  • @sharkenjoyer

    @sharkenjoyer

    @@Teampegleg I think something like that only fits the fictional premise of a full body immersion vr game like shangrila frontier is where with your own skill and how well you move enables you to take on much stronger enemies, much like Sunraku that took on enemies of level 80 while he himself at that time was about, 20-30 at the trials. In a real mmo he would be doing miniscule damage pretty much, but in the show it just takes a few hits, out of weapons that he acquired just 2 hours after logging in for the first time mind you. Being arbitrarily rewarded with much stronger weapons than other players that don't even know these exist doesn't make you untouchable. A 30 level scrub can totally compete with a skilled high level player

After this episode dropped I realised how badass games will be in the future if they made something like a blacksmith singing while forging your weapon and having different songs for different kinds of weapons!
