I do love joslins marana shoes. They fit my foot shape perfectly. They last for a lot longer than any other shoe I've tried. I suppose they do take a bit of time to break in but they still skate well for me fresh outs the box. Vans and some others creat a weird pressure point in my foot when breaking in that causes real pain and makes it difficult to skate and not get hurt compensating for the weird foot pain. Just my two cents on my experience. Love your informative vids

The adidas city cup was one of my favorite shoes I’ve ever skated. I skated them for a whole summer until I ripped the toe, and that summer I progressed more than I ever had up until that point, that was when I really started to get comfortable and feel confident on my board and I attribute a lot of that to those shoes. Hey Ben, cool video - I've really gotten a lot out of my Adidas 3ST.004 cup soles. Just enough boardfeel with perfect support, impact protection, and grip. There's exposed boost foam in the back of the shoe so that might complicate your heelflips / nollie heelflips but I haven't noticed that being an issue. On the flipside, since I'm recovering from an ankle surgery, I'm trying to skate Nike SB Blazer Mids. @@ninmoron3150 I have the Westgate 508s and just got some 440s as well. I haven't skated either yet. They look too rad to ruin yet. I think the 440s would hold up better. The 508s are extremely comfortable. The 440s are stiffer. There is more rubber on the sides of the cup sole on the 440s. It's pretty minimal on the 508s. Someone else mentioned that the heel is lose on the 508s. Compared to the 440s, I think this is true. The 440s seem to lock in your heels more. The 508s seem to have more board feel in the sole. I think they are thinner. The 508s have a single piece of rubber for the sole. The 440s have two. The 440s seem like they are pretty darn durable. It seems like they would take more breaking in. The 508s seem like they wouldn't require much break in at all. Also, the 440s sole seems to stick out more on the sides. I think maybe it's that way to prevent rolling your ankle, or maybe it's just the fact that the rubber on the side is beefier. They seem pretty damn durable to me. The ones I have are the black ones with the gum sole with suede. There are others that have more leather. Same thing for the 508s. I'm thinking the leather ones would probably hold up better. The rubber sole on the 440s seems pretty tough too. This is just my impression. Your mileage may vary. I haven't skated either of them yet. Overall, I think the 440s would hold up better.

The Joslin Vulc is a great one. I have been riding this model for the last 6 months. Excellent board feel and durable. Not as durable as the Marana, but still above average for vulcanized shoes.

Best shoes for me is the DC Kalis (the new one with cupsole) and my favorite and only vulc that i love enough to buy was the New Balance Jami Foy 306. The DC have just enough protection and board feel and tough too. The 306 have really good board feel and they skate amazing out of the box but have less protection for my foot but i will have another one for sure! New Balance are surprisingly tough too!

I recently picked back up skateboarding again after a 15+ year hiatus, a few days ago, that the ripe old age of 40. Currently I've been just using my daily work boots as skate shoes. The problem with work boots is that they grip the board too much, but I do like the support that a work boot gives me.

Hey Ben, one of my favorite cupsole shoes is the new balance 440 hi. Pretty good boardfeel and thick enough where if you primo on the arch or heel you’re gonna be fine. Forefront is a lil thin but throw in a thin pair of FP insole it’s solid.

My favorite vulcanized skate shoes are mostly HUF's especially the Clive and the Galaxy (i also say that the Classic and the Hupper) and recently i've got the last Brad Cromer pro model, the reason cuz i enjoyed skating these cuz the flexibility they have (for ledges and rail tricks really sticks on your feet the first days, then you could get more consistent your flat ground tricks), the way they feel in the board (pretty smooth) and the time of break in (just need like 1 or 2 sessions to make them feel like an extension of your feet), the durability also is another great thing the galaxy lasted me 2 months and 1 week til they ripped from the outsole. Still skating the Clive just got a little wore down area in the outsole but it a little pattern even having in mind that i've been skating em for a month.. I also mention Vans shoes like the Rowan Pro's and the old skool, they really great, the only thing i dont like about em its the duration (Vans usually last like 1 month and half) but i wanna try the Saddle Sid Pro, seems pretty cool.. Wanna try also the Globe Surplus and Los Angered 2, also the new Emerica model, the Temple.. But yeah mostly HUF's but it's a sad thing that they no longer making shoes:"(

By far my favorite shoes are the vans wafflecup shoes (gilbert crockett pro’s, kyle walker pro’s, and the “new” vans wayvee) They’re the only shoe I’ve ever found that has cupsole in the heel and vulc in the toe. You still get amazing board feel and flick but you don’t get instant heel bruise jumping off anything bigger than a 3 stair. I highly recommend everyone try them. The gilbert crocketts are a bit slimmer and the kyle walker/ wayvees are a bit beefier. So there’s still options depending on what you like better🙏🏼 best shoes ever!

Cupsoles all the way! I like the look and idea of vulcs, but I'd rather go for durability and support, because the boardfeel and flex comes fairly quickly in most modern cupsoles. Marana, Joslin (1 & 2), NB# 1010, Silo SC, Quattro, Evant, and Dunks are my primary cupsole recommendations!

Nyjah Free SB (the first ones) had vulcanized soles that were the week point of the shoe. But that is only because the outer material lasts SO long, like 7 weeks of skating everyday and I just now got holes in it, so these I like a lot. Think I'm gonna try thicker cupsoles next because I can't find the Nyjah shoe anywhere in my size anymore :/

I was dead against vulcanized until a couple years ago. Tried a couple pairs and I really liked them. Still hard to beat a classic cup sole tho, feels safe. Although I no longer jump down anything too big these days anyways. I’ve been on vulcanized for about a year and I’ve got some tricks tuned up pretty good so I’m wondering how they will feel when I go back to old reliable cups. I know what you mens about the flick, it takes getting used to for sure. I’m looking forward to trying this next pair I’ve got waiting. Those new balance look clean

Globe Tilts ftw!!! So so much more protection and durability in general, the sole has like 4 layers which absorb so much when doing gaps or drops!! Some people dont like the size - they are sime big boys but im a skater from the 2000s and thats what we wore lol. The support aroujd your ankles is awesome also. But kist of all you still have great board feel despite having a thick and absorbant sole!!
