I have followed you and her for a while now. She is an angel sent from heaven with her vocals. I remember you saying that you don’t like to listen to children saying and that was your first video I bet that you love listening to her now. She is just a godsend not sure if you are religious or not but I and Angelina. The barefoot princess. Is heaven sent I love her more than I think anybody ever heard in my life and I’m 54 years old

When this first came out, I thought "Oh No!" she is trying to go "pop", and I didn't especially like it at first. But, upon further reflection, I decided her mentality is, quite simply, if it is a song "I can and will sing it." So, she put it out there to show she can take her voice anywhere she wants, anytime she wants.

@IDream0fDeathbutDreamsDon'tComeTrue - Compared to the songs she had done up to that point (Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra , Elvis, Louis Armstrong, Patsy Cline), "I Have Nothing" is Pop.

Your reactions is always on point madam.☺️ No issue about how good and impressive her vocal is. It's a matter of protecting her voice. And I think she listens very well... When her voice that is still maturing reach its final form it will be sky is the limit for her.

Angelina's enthusiasm saw her take on a song most singers could not even contemplate. She didn't really need to belt those parts, and only one of them was very edge, but her interplay with the camera and viewer suggests this was/is a Sunday project, one she should rightly be proud of. When she is older and more powerful her version of this will be definitive.

Angelina was 12 when singing this. 13 when it was released.

"on the edge" is where Angelina seems to live. Not always the edge in this sense of pushing it as hard as it can go... but more on the edge in the sense of pushing the styles. She is always trying new things with her style and always experimenting with the limits. She has songs that are as breathy as they could possibly be done (Moon River), or songs where her fry is so strong it almost sounds accidental, and yet you know it is intentional because it's Angelina (I'd Rather Go Blind). I think everything great that has ever happened in music has been the result of people pushing the limits..... so I just know we are going to see many great things from Angelina Jordan :) I may have shared this with you before, but just in case I haven't... But if you were talking about my examples of pushing the limits.... you are correct, this is another example that. I have read one fan comment that she is actually managing to mimic the sounds made by an old shellac record.

Thank you for an excellent reaction to this performance. I think Angelina would agree with the remarks you made about "belting". I agree with previous comments about why Angelina sang this song. A young teenager reads on KZread that she's good but she cannot do "belting". That's a challenge she takes up and this song is the result. Proved her point. So she won't do it again. Problem solved. Her fans and anyone else who listens to this performance know that she is capable of "belting".

I agree that AJ was on the edge of her capacity to belt this song. But I believe she was totally in control of her effort. One reason she felt she could push herself here is because this was a recording session, not a concert, so there was nothing more to follow, so she could allow her voice to recover.

I absolutely loved the song and here rendition of it .. there are some great singers who can belt better , J Hudson, Jersey j but few singers can bring out the emotion of the song or the emotion of the listener as Angelina can and that is what I believe is her greatest talent ..she sings and you stop and listen ..

I very much agree to what you`re saying here. Good points. I Have listened to this song more than 25 - 30 times (+ every time I se reactors to the song). And I must say I have been even more and more impressed by her, taking on this song. Knowing that Whitney Houston has been there all the time in Angelinas world of songs and music (watch her sing along to Whitney at about 18 months old), I can`t say I`m surpriced that this song perhaps means something spesial to her. Of course, I do not know this, but as time has passed since she did this, I have come to think of the fact that this video contains the only written little massage to us, her fans and listeners: "Thank you for watching! It means the world to me!". This song has a hartfelt message to us: -"I have nothing without you, so thank you for watching this". So she realy wanted to do this one for us. And she worked hard in this. I guess she might agree, that she was close to the edge in this. As far as I know she has not done this one in public since her video. She wanted to take on this song for her many fans to get this message, and how much she apreciate that people care, and loves her art. She also turn her face and look to the camera more than she usualy do in her videos, I think. I just can not get my self to think that Angelina does ANYTHING just to show off. To show that she can. Yes, she DO experiment. She DO try out her voice. And she DO try out certain songs, as this one. But I more and more get the feeling that this one means somting more. I always thought this was her "in your face" song to those that question her really not having a big voice. She has always done the bluesy, jazz, breathy stuff, or showed off her low range and she has gotten some criticism for it. I doubt you will see much more of this because its not her style, but she just wanted (or who ever is handling her wanted) to show that she has the big voice just chooses not to use it.

No one handles Angelina. Just saying. She is in control of everything she does. Her mom and Uncle manage her just so she can continue to do what she Angelina wants. She is a musical genius and they recognized that at a very young age. She has always picked her songs, styles and arrangements. You use to be able to request songs on her Patreon but she even changed that now.

@@Dave-jo1hf Actually her mom and uncle are "unhandeling" her, as they have turned down a lot of offers (from the likes of Sony, Disney and more) because they wants her to have a normal upbringing and play and hang out with kids her own age. They have realized that she'll be big no matter what happens and as long as they don't push her, she'll do what she wants when the time is right. Smart and good choice I think. And yes, everything you say is correct.

This is one of the first songs she sang along to and it's one of her favorites. I think she waited to make a recording until she felt she could make it sound the way she wanted it to - she's very particular.

Maybe not perfekt, but for me it is the best cover of the song i have ever heard. There are limits for Angelina only for those she sets herself. Angelina is likely to become one of the greatest singers the world has ever seen. Period!

I can understand your points here. I think it was a great tribute to WH. Since that video she even impressed me more with her live concert singing " it's a mans world" toghether with The Staff Band of the Norwegian Armed Forces.

Angelina is one of the most addictive singers I have ever listened to, & one of the very few, that can pull you right into the song, making you feel, every word, every note, & every emotion. ❤️💙 I always have this feeling that Angelina is not only channeling some of these late great singers, but that they also pass through her, when she is singing their song ❤️💙 A rare beauty, in every sense of the word ❤️💙 Loved your reaction!!!

this reaction was very professional and described reality. but i think angelina stood in front of a microphone and sang a whitney song in one take. it doesn't really matter whether she hit this tone well or had to make an effort with the other tone .she wanted to sing a song in honor of whitney houston.she did and it was brilliant to my ears.definitely the best covers of this song i have heard.we always praise angelina's heart and highly intelligent social character.and that she prefers gives than she takes.then we also take this song as a gift from her.without necessarily examining its strengths or weaknesses.that's my opinion.

It's very hard to admit it, but she performs every cover better than the original. Even Huston was not able to sing this song perfectly each time because that is simply impossible with this song. And you should know that....

You should do a reaction to her singing "I'll be there" in Sweden when she was 8 years old.

She hasn't done any song with that much belting after this one, just as she hasn't done any song with as much growl since 'I put a spell on you' when she was 9. From what I've heard she has had voice teachers for many years now. I know many people love this performance, but it is among my least favorite Angelina songs (though I love them all). It does however show that she is able to belt as well, and when her throat is fully developed, I'm starting to think there is nothing that will be beyond her reach :-). I'm looking very much forward to her new album which is rumoured to be released soon. I'm guessing she will perform a song from that album on the finale of AGT Champions.

Definitely a strain for her, but I'm impressed that as a 12 years old she can demonstrate she's developing the technical abilities to go there. I hope the training can compensate for her voice deepening with age.

Its not my favourite of hers either, she came out with this after soo many saying she could not sing high register songs, that she is a low register singer, I think this was just a showoff, that she could hit the hight notes and belting, to prove a point. ^^

I recommend you listen to Angelinas cover of Born to Die by Lana Del Rey. Easily one of her best.

The first time I heard her sing this, I loved the way she came down from the belting to the lower, smoother tones. I was worried for her and those really high, intense notes. She apparently sang the song in a key higher than the original, and I don't know if she had gone lower if it would have made any difference. Suffice to say, considering she took an interest in Whitney as a very young kid (1-3 yrs), I think this was her fulfilling her own personal goal--singing Whitney. As I listened to other reactors over the past year, I began to appreciate her effort more and more. I always cringe just a bit at the really high note, but I enjoy the rest. So, I agree with your review, and I appreciate your concern. The note she hit in Bohemian Rhapsody was more natural and relaxed than the note here, so I think she has great range. But to me the belting is not what I prefer...thanks again.

Valerie, thanks so much for this reaction. I really respect your views. I believe Angelina did this a year ago as a result of comments on youtube that she couldn't sing high notes. I agree she is pushing her limits on this one, but I still love it. The last couple of years she has had a growth spurt & is now over 6 ft tall, so I'm sure her voice box is growing,as well. Every year her voice gets better & better, so I hope she sings this again in the future, but not with a backing track. She needs live musicians following her so she can change it up & make it her own. Backing tracks are too restrictive for Angelina. I hate to keep asking for the same song, but I really love how she changed California Dreamin into a jazzy song.

i personally didn't know angelina could do this type of songs and belt away so props to her. having said that, she will not shine by belting. many women can belt and frankly belt better that angelina, but angelina has the most attractive female singing voice in the world, in my opinion. she should just keep singing with her unique, mesmerizing, beautiful, sweet voice and leave the belting for the rest of the herd

Thank you for this honest reaction. This tribute to a singer and to this sing that she first sang when she was 1 year old was really audacious. Although I agree with you and I felt, too that she was really close to the edge with the belting. She’s exploring how far her voice can go and she did it well, I would say. Still, she gave that “Angelina touch” on the song. I can’t wait to see what else can she do with her voice and I hope she can take care of it, keep it organic and golden. I usually watch your reactions to MJ and BTS. Recently discovered Angelina and was happy to see you reacting to her. A suggestion for your enjoyment, not necessarily for doing a reaction. A BTS performance of their song “Dynamite “ from MAMA 2020. Has a touch of MJ in it that I know you will love because I do!

I completely agree. This is one of the very few Angelina performances that isn't quite right. It is still very good, but Whitney was spectacular at the big stuff. Angelina low down is unmatched though.

the most difficult part about Angelina is when other singers who are pretty good in their own rights cover some of the songs that Angelina sings too or visa versa you would be hard press not to go back to hear Angelina she just has that something that no one else has she is a really indicative old soul it's like the singers from the past have found their way into her when she was born she is an amazing singer can't get enough of her singing looking forward to her future endeavors

I feel like she did this song probably because she likes (I hope) and also because it shows that she has the chops to go high and belt if needed. Personnally, I don't care much for these types of performances from her. It's not that she's not doing it well (she certainly can do it). But pretty much every singer goes for this "belting" sound and I find it rather tiresome. What I like about Angelina is that she can bring out a great deal of emotion WITHOUT belting, particularly in her jazz covers (and her own original songs). I also feel like the "belting" style has kind of run its course. A more intimate, delicate, authentic and soul-touching sound is the new frontier now. There are many singers who can belt. But for now, there's only one Angelina (that I know of). I think her original passion for old time jazz is what sets her apart and where she shines like no other. I could see her reviving the genre, if she chooses that path. I hope she does. Her very soothing sound is very unique in this day in age. I feel it is "her" voice, and we could all use an authentic, humble, artistic sound like hers. Let's see where her artistry leads her...

I feel that this performance shows the versatility of what this young lady can do. Yes, she does belt out the higher notes here but also at times does show her ability to bring out some emotion in this style. She really does bring her own style to this famous song. I agree that she is best at her breathy intimate jazzy songs but if one was to be at t regular concert venue I'm certain one tune like this amongst all the soul-touching numbers would still be well received by her audience. Remember. She is 14 years old at this time. I can only imagine what this song will sound like in five years when done by her.

I totally agree with you on this reaction. I am a big AJ fan and just about every other cover she has made she was at least as good as the original and in most songs she was even better. Trying to cover Whitney is a huge task and in AJ's defense this is a one take performance without studio enhancements. Having said that I believe AJ falls a little short on this one.

I like to think what could have happened if things were done differently and such similar things. What if they unleashed Angelina with this song,after Bohemian Rhapsody in AGT Champions? I believe that would have skyrocketed her into the top 3. Dont get me wrong,me and my mom were huge Elton John supporters,i still am (im sure moms soul still is) But right after i heard her do that song,i remember thinking "its beautiful,but i dont think that is the right song for Angelina to do in a talentshow". And she was in the Champions edition,no space to rest on ones laurels,thats for sure! This song would have gotten her within Top 3,without a doubt. Especially as an outsider (non US),you need to find the right songs that will win the American crowd over! But i hear soo often about talentshows like this actually giving you a few songs to choose from,so in all honesty,other people are choosing the songs for you. Its too controlled,too fabricated....it ruins it for creative,passionate souls like Angelina.

I have commented in the past that your reactions are informative. I certainly do not sense that her voice is at the edge when belting in this case. I learned something for sure. One point, though, regarding the quality of sound as heard by those tuned into your reaction video. We didn't get the full benefit of the quality of her singing, which I assume may be due to the fact that it is picked up from your computer by your open mike as you speak or listen. I apologize if I am incorrect about the cause of the distortion.

Thx. She is supportive, but potential new fans may not have listened directly to AJ's recording.

In May 2019 (a couple of months after this video was released) she performed this song at a benefit concert in Beverly Hills with David Foster. Video may have been her tune up. Wish we had more than the sound check from the concert.

That is a fair point. Her vocal cords are not yet fully developed and to have problems with nodules or similar things would really stop that development for some time. I am sure that she does not behave carelessly, but unlike it is the case with musical instruments, you can´t just swap your vocal cords for new ones. She seems to be self-aware enough to cut those belts off quickly and that is good. She is going to be great!

Exactly. That's why I love to have my students attend contests and adjudications with several judges. Everyone has different things they are listening to.

There's another song where Angelina goes hard for the high notes, but seems to do it with greater ease than this one. And her breathe control is remarkable. A lot of tonal quality is lost in your reaction compared to Angelina’s official sites. Several other reaction sites do a better job passing the music through.

The official video is the same key. The 1993 Billboard video is a whole note lower.

I think you should listen to a lot more of your music everybody that hears her says she is perfect I've been listening to music before you were born and I do believe that this girls are greatest singer there ever was male female of any age group hands down she's a natural in the beginning you were talking about she seemed like a little bit of stage fright if you watched some of her previous history you will see at 4 5 6 years old she was singing and loved it had no stage fright so you are way off key on that one I've never heard any singer ever they can sing a thousand different voices like she can and almost perfect on every one of them I realize if you are a voice coach a teacher you have to come up with something to justify your position and some people said like you did when she first started they were worried about her vocals at such a young age at 10 years old she sang I Put A Spell On You if that didn't break her voice vocals nothing will her parents are very protective of her you can see that at any time you look at her songs how she's dressed how protective they are and how they control her I don't think she needs any control she's Way Beyond her years I heard her when she wrote some of her own music like the song shield and she was interviewed by the people on stage much much older people in their 50s and they asked her because they were so it's done by her and her abilities if she ever felt like she was 12 years old which is what she was at the time and she looked at it without making a face without taking two seconds to think she said when I look at my passport that shows you a sign of an intelligence Way Beyond 12 years old try doing more research before you make analysis

It looks to me that she's being professionally trained on techniques to grow her range. I'd say she's made great progress for a 12 year old. However, she's so young I wonder if she's fighting an up hill battle as her voice deepens. Can she control how her voice changes with age?

It is a mystery to me how a young girl can instill so much passion into a song. Huston was 28 years old when she recorded this and her vocal performance was extraordinary. Angelina is half her age and has the technique available to express this song like a professional.I agree with your assessment, though. As a singer, Angelina wanted to tackle this blowout ballad but I think her vocal coach cautioned her to avoid this type of hyperintensive tune. I haven't heard her going- for- broke approach with future material she has done. Wise, I think. Angelina has a superb gift but it is still maturing. As well, with her renditions on AGT, she has shown an ability to draw in the listener with a style unique to her, where her vocal strength is hinted at but kept in check. Come back in ten years, Valerie, and critique her again!

Thank you for reacting to Angelina Jordan. I'm not a fan of belting and I agree with you that her voice was at the edge of being stressed out when hitting those high notes. I can understand that Angelina as a young talented artist that she wants to experiment with different genres of music to evolve and reach her ultimate potential. Although in my opinion Angelina is at her best when performing Jazz song, I also enjoyed her Pop songs covers as in FADED and SING ME TO SLEEP with ALAN WALKER, her Disco cover of I'LL SURVIVE as well as her A SONG FOR A by the classical composer NICO CARTOSIO with a musical arrangement specifically for her to the 240 years old poem RIGS O'BARLEy by ROBBIE BURNS. She started at a higher pitch than she usually does. I wonder if it would be different starting on a lower note.

Good point! Angelina is definitely settling into the mezzo/alto range while Whitney was more of a power soprano. If she had started it lower, it would have been easier on her voice. I give her kudos trying things on.

I could here the same thing you explained about her belting, but I also think she is experimenting with different song to find her range right now. Great reaction

Totaly agree about the stretchy part and that you conserne. She manage it but as you sais as an professional .... and moore ..... she wants to much ..... its dangerous .... I sais as an amateur...

Good advice. Yes I also thought she was reaching her limit as far as straining her voice. She is very young, hopefully they take it easy and her voice will mature more making that easy :) and yes more of her please:)

I really enjoyed your professional and warm "reaction" to this song! I love Angelinas voice, but this big song is to early for her voice! It was a fairly good attempt, but your comments made it clear for me why this version didn´t capture me, the way her other songs do! Sorry for my lausy english, since I´m norwegian too! Gonna follow your channel now!

Have you actually ever listen to Whitney Houston, I know you have, talk about belting it out. She sure didn’t seem to have a problem with it to me. She doesn’t seem like the kind of young lady who would force her voice beyond what is comfortable for her to do. I am sure she as well as others around her are well aware of the damage she could do to her vocal cords.

All singers test their limits as do young teens. It's okay to explore...that is how you learn what is best for you.

Thanks for your reaction. I appreciate your expertise in singing and noticing aspects of voice performances that fans miss. I thought Angelina did fine with this song, but I'm not a fan of belting out songs by anyone. I feel Angelina does her best with her controlled breath and voice, and her phrasing. Although she brings a jazz singers approach to all her performances, I feel jazz is still where she belongs.

How the heck did Charice sing this song so easily, it looked like a joke to her, it looked like she sang it was not a difficult song, this song is something to dare if you try.

I just watched this video earlier today on another channel, and the sound on yours was off. It sounded like it was in a well or something. Please listen to another video or listen to it on different equipment.
