He doesnt do drugs nor does he drink, the song is about a friend and band member of his who died of an overdose, him and the band tried to help him but he wouldnt stop doing drugs saying they made him a better musician and writer and was no good without being high

I think you should have watched the entire performance from the Grammys before your initial comment of him being nervous. Maybe you would have spoken differently.

You said that this performance was in 1972. He was born in 1958, so he was 13 or 14 in this performance. You can tell that his voice is changing from "I want you back" which was recorded in 1969..

pretty weak reaction honestly, one of the weakest I've watched... She never talked about the lyrics and vocals and the meaning behind them, and how the pain and feeling came thru in his performance, especially when she paused in at 4:08 - ridiculous. First tell is she didn't have chills and tears as the song progressed. One of the best live performances of a song I've seen.
How wonderful it is to hear you say that everyone has a voice. I love and appreciate singers, but what I hear and discern in singers evaporates when I try singing. Perhaps I can learn.
