I love this performance too. Amira will be 19 in March and just finished school in South Africa and has taken a year off to travel and perform etc before going to university in South Africa next year. Recently while visiting her dad in The Netherlands over Christmas she recorded Gesu Bambino in a local church with her dad playing the organ. It's an informal performance - just the two of them and recorded on a phone. The acoustics of it in the empty church are gorgeous. She also sang O Holy Night during and interview with a Dutch radio station. Both are available on her channel.

The Gesu Bambino performance was absolutely incredible and, I'm assuming, impromptu! What a majestic sweetheart she is!

Then in my 3rd and 4th year of my music study I will specialise in musicology. After 4 years I will have my degree and then I can do my masters in music therapy because I will have taken psychology for 3 years in combination with music. During this study I will still be performing and sharing my talent. I will probably study somewhere close to Cape Town"

"The sound of music" is not my favorite, but that's a matter of taste. Amira really did a great job again and is awesome to watch and listen to. I wonder what was in the water/milk in the years 2004-2006 because there we have Amira Willighagen, Angelina Jordan, Lucy Thomas and Jadyn Rylee: four teen-singers with unbelievable talents, to me they are vocal acrobats who ARE music. Amira (classical/religious), Angelina (jazz, blues), Lucy (musical, religious) and Jadyn (pop, rock).

Somehow back at the very beginning Amira acquired or was born with the ability emote, to be able to transmit to her audience the pure emotions of the music. She is the music and the audience can feel it. Please give us more Amira.

Wise words Val. Amira has just completed her schooling, and is planning to take a year out. Maybe do a tour, certainly immerse herself in the music she loves. She intends to study music in one of the Cape Town universities starting next year. I pray that they don't try and mould her voice in directions that don't suit her natural style, but just enhance its beauty. Over the recent Christmas period she returned to her native Netherlands. She has posted a couple of videos that are quite different from the massive production you've reviewed above. The first is Oh holy night, which she sang in a TV studio as part of an interview. ( There is a version with English translation, or you can see the one which just shows the carol). The other is very simple, just her in a church, with her father on the organ, wearing off the street clothes, singing an Italian carol, Gesu Bambino. She describes it as informal, but the acoustics of the church, and her soaring soprano make it an intimate and exquisite piece. Perhaps you'd like to give it a go?

@@luigimanzoni2705 Yes, 17K views is the result if you don't sing better than that. And she sang much better at the time with Alma Deutscher, so if she still wants a popular career she better stay and further develop her musical, crossover style repertoire.

@@yogajedi3337 I think Amira is putting her singing career on the back burner. Right at the point in time she needs to focus intently on her singing to accelerate her progress and build her career it appears that her focus and desire have shifted in a different direction. Her life and her choice but in the arts if you have no desire to achieve even a modicum of fame you fall back into the pack of the hundreds of thousands maybe millions of "trained" singers without any hope of actually making a profession out of being an entertainer. I think it's a valid choice to make as long as there are no illusions about what that choice means. Most people, myself included, inevitably settle into their zone of comfort at some point and stuff their dreams into a locked trunk. Sometimes it's worth it sometimes it's not. The answer often isn't known for some decades later. I hope it works out for Amira and she has a great life.

Valerie's comments are always informative and instructive, particularly about Amira 'inhabiting' the song. The only other artist I've heard with this rare talent is Callas. BTW: I'm not sure that these reaction videos are a suitable forum for suggesting singers other than the the one featured.

Having completed her education, she is taking a year out, hoping to do a world tour. On returning she is planning to go to a music college in South Africa (don't know which one). Blue has always been Amira's favourite colour. She is a joyful person so it always comes out in her singing. Thank you, again, Valerie, for your lovely Reaction. The informal recording of Gesu Bambino in her home church in the Netherlands is worth watching, as is Panis Angelicus, sung with a friend, Katherine Hamman, in SA, before visiting her father.

@@MichaelGroves777 . Amira has lived in SA for several years and parts of the country have always been unsafe, but she emigrated anyway and visited several times before that. Perhaps some of her SA fans will be able to tell us more.

Reality is she didn't have any invitation from any major show anywhere this Christmas season. And all the talk about a world tour seems more of empty words , where are the sponsors ?. If Amira stays in SA she is digging her career down.
