Chinese shows like Singer block a lot, unfortunately. Hua Chenyu is one of the most popular singers in China, as big or bigger than Zhou Shen, and his videos often need a filter. Fans don’t mind; we’re happy you’re reacting to him. He’s worth it. Thank you!

His songs can encompass life, hope, religion, ideals, dreams, pain, despair, and even death. Furthermore, his singing voice and performing skills are extremely captivating. I always discover new capabilities of songs in his works. Hua ChenYu is my favorite artist in the world.

For the full Hua Chenyu effect you need to listen to his own songs (Madhouse, Airplane Mode, Illusion and Reality, You Have to Believe). He occupies his own space and you never know what will come out of his mouth or his mind, from environmental issues to mental health to love songs. He is known for his dramatic performances and out of the box music. Early on his career he was accused of being out of this world (having auditioned with a lyricless song), so he and his fans took it and ran with it. His concerts (which literally sell out in seconds) are branded Mars concerts and his fans are Martians. Looking for more reactions.

Hua Hua is so talented & versatile! He always surprise me in his music as you never know what he is going to do in his next performance. He is such a great artist, singer & composer!❤

Music was his companion through a very isolated childhood/adolescence. His music as a student was unconventional - ppl called him 'possessed'. Through an audition show, he learnt how to interact with others and flourish as an artist who can be accepted mainstream, but still push so many boundaries. Watching him is like watching a child who loves something enough to want to do it all day, everyday...and his on-stage persona and music reflect that. He's a gem. I love that you guys are finally being exposed to his world of brilliance.

Both HuaHua and Dimash have great audience participation; they are the only ones that do, that I know of. I would love to attend one of their live concerts one day! It would be an experience of a lifetime; that much I know!

I'm so glad you discovered Hua Hua. He is one of the greatest theatrical singers of all-time. I discovered him through Dimash. Hua also competed on the tv show "I am Singer" out of China. In China he is a superstar of iconic proportions in his 30's. There is no one like him. He is the only performer to fill the 90,000 capacity Birds Nest Stadium in Peking & he did it 3 nights in a row. His fans are called "Martians" & number in the millions.

In fact, he filled the Bird Nest shortly after, singer 2018 2concerts in a row and 90,000 per concert. And in 2023, the Bird Nest stage was reconfigured, he also filled it 2 nights in a row and broke the record for the largest audience, 100,000 per concert, sold in a few minutes and the record for the largest stage in Asia and also the most expensive (10M USD)

This young man is immensely creative both with his own compositions and his renditions of the music of others. In the "Singer" competition, participants can only present 2 of their originals. All other songs have to be rearrangements. HuaHua is the master of composition, rearrangement, harmonies and interpretation, giving each song his own feelings about the lyrics, alienating himself from everything around him. I traveled to China last year from Portugal, just to see him. The two days of marsconcert (100,000 per day) were the most beautiful spectacle of music, lights, fashion, conversation, flowers (HuaHua) with an unparalleled delivery. Hua Chenyu is second only to Dimash. Another awesome rabbit hole to go done. So extremely versatile, unique, his own special person. I have watched a few other Chinese singing competitions that he has been a part of, mentoring newer singers. One show, every episode he is given a song he would not normally sing, and in 24 hours has to rearrange it and make it totally his. THAT is where his true brilliance really shines. I am a nearly 70 yr old grandmother who really hates American rap music but Hua does rap like no other.

Your humor, mixed with technical analysis and just your pure enjoyment of the performance, was a great balance in providing a wonderful reaction to Hua Chenyu’s Nunchucks. “Musical whiplash”😂😂 is a perfect description of how Hua Hua recomposed this song and performed it. In this performance he was 28 years old, now 34 years old. Hua Hua is incredible in his ability to combine genres and to transition seamlessly from one to another. He is a very gifted composer and performer…I have not found anyone quite like him, so unique in his music and how he sees the world. Thanks again for your enjoyable reaction and analysis. So glad that you got to react to Hua Chenyu (Hua Hua is his nickname, sounds like Whoa Whoa, ). He is a great singer-songwriter. Nunchucks is adapted based on Jay Chou's original rap song. He added the intro, the rock, the choir, and the Chinese opera parts. It's almost a new composition. The show's rule was that each singer could only sing two of their own original compositions, the rest had to be adapted from existing songs. Hua Hua made this adaptation, however, the interpretation is completely his own. We would really enjoy your reaction to some of his own compositions: Qi-Tian from the same 2018 Singer Show, Seven Personalities, I Really Want to Love this World, Bullfight, Madhouse (album 4) Illusion and Reality, When the Whole World Forgets Me (Album 5). The style changes aren’t random; they tell the story and convey emotion. But it’s hard to take your eyes off of him to read the lyrics!😂 I’d like to give you a head’s up about reacting to Hua Chenyu (in case you read the comments.) Been waiting for you to find him. 😂 I don't even have "Nunchucks" in my Top 60 Hua Hua Performances. He is simply a magnificent Composer, Arranger and multi instrumentalist. Yes, the different aspects all layered at the end. You won't believe what he is capable of. And, got it on one. He listened to Radiohead, Muse, Linkin Park. He inhabits the persona of the song. He can make you laugh, or cry. Hua Hua was REN 10 years before REN. He had quite a lonely bullied childhood, which created lots of angst for him. And some of his best songs are about Depression. He has spoken openly about his, and asked Chinese people to be kind to those who are struggling. He is in a happy place now. But, it's been some journey with him to get there. 😔 If you want to see a performance piece, try "Fake Monk". Again, you won't have heard anything like it, but it is mesmerising. The audience, as a whole, were holding their breath, before he finished it. He sings/Composes/Arranges Rock, Rap, Reggae😂, Pop, SynthPop, Electronic, Broadway, Accoustic, Traditional Chinese... Think a combination of Freddie Mercury, David Bowie (chameleon appearance and genres of music), Steven Tyler, George Michael and even a bit of Elton John. 😂 He is a musical genius, who no longer seems tortured. Many Dimash Dears, are also Hua Hua fans (Martians). 👍

@@regularperson4106 Hua Hua's long and complex compositions like Madhouse, Seven Personalities, Illusion, and Reality remind me of Queen's mixed genre compositions like Hungarian Rapsody. I think both Freddie Mercury and David Bowie are inspirational to Hua Hua. Musically, he is more influenced by Radio Head and Muse, two figures that he acknowledged before. His Illusion and Reality definitely paid tribute to Muse. Of course, he has his own unique style that's not limited by any particular definition of style or genre. I think His music is also influenced by Japanese rock, Chinese folk songs, and new world music. Of course, I don't think he has any particular genre in his mind when he composes.

@@regularperson4106 Sorry, but, just singing Queen songs doesn't make Dimash like Freddie. I was a fan of Queen from BEFORE they were famous. Hua Hua is nearer to Freddie than anyone I've seen. The blend of Rock rasp which Hua Hua has, together with the ability to incorporate multiple genres in one song, was Freddie's (and now Hua Hua's) signature. Dimash would be mad to replicate the Rock rasp, and possibly ruin his stunningly clean vocals. Hua Hua knows he is limiting his length of time singing, using Rock vocal technique. But, Hua Hua grew up listening to Radiohead, Muse, Linkin Park, and he absorbed THOSE Rock vocals. Dimash is a self-confessed Michael Jackson fan. And, no one can say Michael was a Rock God.

Hua Hua is on the same level as Dimash. Hua Hua was on singer the year after Dimash. He has his own concerts in China MARS CONCERTS. He sells out 100,000 plus seats in minutes. I follow everything he does. He does all genres with his own take on it. Do "CHILD" or "FAKE MONK">to get another vibe on him. Great reaction to genius artist.

How he managed to create Codename Contra, in 24 hours, from only the few wee jingles for the Computer Game Contra, I don't know. And "Dad I'm home". 😭 One I liked but is never Reacted to is.. I love that you're checking out Hua Hua! I found him while watching The Singer (which I was watching because of Dimash). Hua Hua is so captivating and exciting as a singer. Plus he's a songwriter, composer and I'm sure others will tell you he does more. He was in The Singer in 2020 and there is able to do more of his own music which is so good. His songs there that I loved were "Bullfighting", "Code Name: Contra in the Wild", and "Jackdaw Boy". He also did a cover of the song "Us" which was something to see and beautiful to hear. My friends don't understand why I listen to him, BTS or any other music that isn't in English. I always tell them that you don't have to understand the language to love the music. Ooh, I love Contra in the Wild! For those who don’t follow Hua, it is a re-arrangement and acoustic version of his own composition from The Next which he wrote in 24 hours! (It is called Codename Contra, by the way) The feel is so different!! Perhaps Throga should put up a reaction to the two pieces together!

I am so glad you finally got around to listening to him!! He is incredible and has his own unique style. At some point you should definitely watch his performance of Fake Monk. It's another song he performed for this competition show.

Hua Chenyu’s rearrangements always shows his great mastermanship. His own composed music is even way better. Been a fan since 2017 listening to him every day still and planning to go to his next Mars (Sunrise) concert in China .. if i can get my visa in time. I will do what’s necessary. Enjoyed your great reaction to one of the most creative re arranger / composer. Please don't stop reacting to Hua Hua. The more you see the more you will see his versatility. Hua usually introduces his originals at his concerts and they are so exceptionally versatile. It is safe to assume you will get copyrighted, so best you skew the originals. Us Martians enjoy the reactions to his performances because he is full of surprises.

This is a new age of music. Artists like him are trying to show there is not category or box to slot artists into. There is just music.

He's known to be a perfectionist so has even gone so far as to record over 100 separate tracks of his own vocals to make a backing choir just so he could get the exact sound he wanted. Nunchucks is a really fun song and his stage presence is phenomenal, I'd love to see what you make of some of his more recent works such as "When the whole world forgets me" or "Illusion and Reality" 🌺🌺

Great review guys. His given name is Chenyu. Hua is his surname. In Chinese names, their surnames come first before their given name(s). Hua sounds like hoo-ah or who-ah. This song was rearranged by him and an arranger he always work with - Zheng Nan. The original singer and composer is Jay Chou, which is a full rap song and also very nicely done. Hua has the ability to impersonate singing voices of other famous singers which might explain his ability to deliver various tones in one song. Thanks for checking him out. Hua is such a wonderful artist... he's been on many singing/music shows with Charlie Shen, Dimash and Liu Yuning (another artist to check out eventually ! ) Hua's range and musicianship are just outstanding... he rearranged this and all the backing tracks were done by him....It was the first year that an international artist had performed/competed on Singer... (Jessie J - and whilst she was fantastic I always felt Hua was more deserving of the win... he came second, Jessie won ) You simply can't go wrong with anything Hua ... his Mars concert was simply epic

Dimash also came in 2nd and sometimes that is its own blessing. These two were already on trajectory to be superstars and I personally think these exceptional types need the challenge to keep striving for their dream. If they win everything all the time the motivation is lessened.

Welcome to the genius of Hua Hua. He is a composer, arranger, producer and the rest of the kitchen sink. He is the most unique artist on the planet and never fears to take different routes, musically, to tell his story. In the early days people referred to him as an alien from mars and out of that, his fanbase, Martians were born. He does not perform outside of China and once a years he holds Mars concerts to connect with his fans. He is an introrvert so music is his way of getting out his thoughts and feelings so please continue to react to him... you will not regret it ! Fake Monk is another widely viewed one. He does a few covers but his own compositions is where you see his genius. The covers.. you have to listen to the original song before seeing his version. A show that he took part in gave contestants 24 hours to rearrange a song... My Skateboard Shoes is a good example of what he does

Love Hua Hua! They definitely need to listen to the original songs like Skateboard Shoes before experiencing Hua Hua's version. This man is a composing genius. To do most of these in < 24 hours. Even Nunchuks, Hua Hua's version is so different. And his voice is an instrument on it's own !!!

Last year was his 10th anniversary debut, and he held 19 concerts for his tour. This year, he will continue touring and has plans to hold concerts in places like Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. Additionally, there will be a special sunrise concert where everyone will sing together from midnight until sunrise.

I came across Hua Chenyu at the same time that I found Dimash. Both sing with their entire bodies and live the songs as they sing them. Both are great at transmitting emotion. Hua Hua is just a little more "untamed" 😅
