He can sing songs in different genres such as opera, bel canto, pop, rock and rap. He can also sing songs in many languages. His own voice is that of a teenager, but he can naturally switch between the voices of children, young people, middle-aged people, girls, etc. I would recommend his "Time to say goodbye","Golden hour", "China in the light", "The Lonely Goat Herd", "Just like fire", "Think of me" and "Moonlight".

@@Watchamacallit000 It's not metal per se but check out his cover of Unravel from the movie Tokyo Ghoul and the song Ring the Doorbell and Listen to Myself might appeal. The composer waited 20+ years before he would let anyone perform/record this song. He gave permission to Zhou Shen. It's an outstanding performance. You should see the version from Singer 2020. All of his performances on that show are outstanding. Including the viral Da La Beng Ba where he sings in 5 different voices. Other rap/pop/rock performances include those from the show Sing China where he does duets with other singers. Check out his duet with Liang Long and another with Gai on the same show.. He has done some American song covers including Just Like Fire by Pink but I like his Chinese songs the best.

Zhen Shou, also known as Charlie, first became famous for a song called Big Fish from an animated movie with that title. I watched the whole movie waiting for the song and it was the second of two songs that played at the end of the movie as the credits scrolled. I almost missed it. As a young student, Charlie left China to attend University in Kiev, Ukraine majoring in Dentistry because it was cheaper to go there. He changed is major to voice then came back to China. After his appearance on the Super Vocal Competition he really became even more famous and is still very popular there.

Zhou Shen is iconic, unique. He has arguably the highest male chest voice in modern times, but he's so much more. He is 30 now, and is really loved and acclaimed by China's pop music fans of all ages. ShenShen had a rocky road to success, starting with teasing and bullying by teen peers when his voice did not drop at puberty. He did not get accepted to study music at the Chinese university he chose, so his parents sent him to Ukraine to study dentistry. He knew this was not his true path, and turned back to bel canto, training as a leggiero tenor at University of Lviv. In this performance - part of a 2018 Hunan TV reality show spotlighting young men who sing western-style opera and musical theater, a little-appreciated niche in China - Shen sings as a self-taught 16:58 countertenor or sopranist. He struggled with nerves and insecurities throughout the course of the show, but his 35 fellow singers supported him and continued the encouragement after the show ended. @@user-jw1pk3uv5v Thank you for you correction and clarification. I did not mean to imply that Zhou Shen needed "Super Vocal" show to advance his career. He was already well on his way. I noted that during auditions for that show, the producers expressed surprise that Shen wanted to participate, as he did not need the small exposure the show provided. "Super Vocal" was one of the first playlists containing Shen (singing songs familiar to an English-only speaker who is not proficient with social media - I am old!) that KZread suggested for me. An "intro," of sorts. Thanks again! I hope that more old Americans will listen to great music from brilliant singers outside the US and Europe.

Following an established one like Hua Chenyu, and finding Zhou Shen. Then finding Zhou Shen taking me to find Gao Tian He, Li Qi, Ayanga, and others who didn't make it as big, such as the sublime voices of Ma Jia, Wang Kai, Ju Hongchuan. 🤗

I'm glad you got to Zhou "Charlie" Shen. I think he's one of the most talented vocalists in the world.

Zhou Shen started early with singing, joined the school choir and won the first place repeatedly in choir competitions. But when he hit puberty his voice didn't significantly change. Since he still sounded like a girl in middle school he was ridiculed by his classmates and they were calling him names. Because of the discrimination he experienced, he became more and more silent. He didn't sing on stage for three years in junior high school. Fortunately he regained confidence and was able to make his uniqueness his strength. He studied Bel Canto at the Ukrainian Conservatory of Music and today he is one of the most popular singers in China. Zhou Shen plays the piano, guitar and clarinet. He can speak five foreign languages: English, Ukrainian, Russian, Italian and Polish (his French is pretty decent too) and he sings in even more languages. I love his angelic voice. For more wonderful performances I recommend his duets with Sa Dingding (a Chinese singer and songwriter) "Upwards to the moon" and "Flower walking freely", but you can't go wrong with any of his performances. He sings even higher in those duets. For a great spooky performance I suggest "The Song of Heaven Island" (I can send you a link with English subs). For an upbeat, rocky song, check out his cover of "Unravel". "Zhou" is pronounced like "Joe" with the J sounding a bit sharper like the "Ch" in Charlie. BTW, Charlie is Zhou Shen's Western name.

Welcome to Zhou Shen's world. He can sing over 12 languages and use 5 different voices in one song. He graduated in Classical training in Ukraine. If you guys are willing to dig in more about his music. You will be surprised. He is a funny, polite and humble guy even though he is very famous now but he doesn't act arrogant like a lot of singers out there. The softness and airiness of all shades of Zhou Shen's childish female and male voice make the singing very engaging and addictive. Probably Zhou Shen's most emotional song. As he himself said, he always cries when singing this song, because here he sings not only about the cat that was rejected by the tribe, but also about himself, because he was bullied and rejected because of his exceptional voice. With hope, he asks them to approach him and accept him as he is, and he will sincerely repay them with his gift.

Zhou Shen is the singer for "Big Fish" or DA/YU. His vocal range is 3+ octaves. His voice is natural and pure. Zhou is pronounced like Joe only with the z.

Zhou is his family name and it is pronounced as “Joe” in Mandarin. It’s just me. I like that from the start people know how to say his name. To me, he’s the best! I’m his international fan.

Not many can sing good in Memory, he sings awesomely magnificence

For my own preference about his voice(s), you can react his “Dalabengba” which over 30M views in youtube! Another one will be “Song of heaven island”, one man horror musical! Besides, fun fact share to you, he just sang Disney song “I am A star” for Disney 100 anniversary movie ‘A wish’. As comment from Disney, Zhou Shen sang 20+ different vocals by himself for this song while original English version was sung by 28 person!

You are right. One of the song composer also said, Charlie Zhou Shen’s voice sounds like crystal.

ZhouShen faced tons of haters bcoz of his voice. He failed thru and thru as a dentistry student and changed his major to vocal training. One of the Voice of China’s producers scouted him as he posted singing videos on social media. Despite his amazing performance, his team coach dumped him half way. Then by chance he was invited to do a demo for DaYu(BigFish), and he became singer of the OST and his voice was heard on a much broader basis. From then on, his singing life changes .

@WhiteIsTriColour, sorry, May I make a slight correction please. Zhou Shen did not fail thru and thru in dentistry. It was basically because the course and all course materials were in Ukrainian/Russian and he found himself having had to do both text translations (into Chinese ) and study, day and night, almost 7/24. He realised at that rate, he would, not only take double the time to complete the course, but also at the great expense of his health. He then decided to switch to music, a global language.

I don't hate his voice but most of the live performances of his I've come across on KZread sound too perfect. Great singers like Diana Ross, Andrea Bocelli, Sade, Mariah Carey sound somewhat different from their recordings when singing live. I've just learned today that Chinese TV uses a lot of post production pitch corrections and sound editing for recorded "live" performances.

An Canadian vocal coach has made many reactions to Zhou Shen and was well known in Chinese society. I love you two the very professional analysis to this Memory by ZhouShen. Keep going please!

The prelude air is a French song from the end of World War II, sung by the famous French singer Edith Piaf, called La Vie En Rose. This song was subsequently covered by the likes of Armstrong, Bing Crosby, Dean Martin and more recently Grace Jones 32 years later in 1977. Born in 1955, 10 years after the song was written,, we could still hear this song on the Mauritius radio station, all through the 60s and 70s. In the late 70s and through the 80s, the Grace Jones version became the most listened to version. Greetings from my little paradise island of Mauritius under the Tropic of Capricorn.

I am so pleased that you enjoyed Zhou Shen’s song Memory. So did I, immensely. He is not only a talented vocalist, but also such a fine person. His life story thus far has been legendary already. Do you know that he can sing at least 10 different languages? He also sings songs in various Chinese regional languages (not dialects, but languages like French vs Spanish). He can sing songs that embody various characters e. g. female, older man, child, witch and the list goes on. He recently sang a Chinese Disney movie theme song, using his natural voice, more than a dozen characters. He is simply amazing. I would love to hear your reactions listening to his songs.

He is the only signer whom I listen to now. Once I listen to his singing, I just can't accept other singers' any more. Zhou Shen's angelic voice really has rescued me from my depression. He saved me.

Great to see you discover Zhou Shen! He actually sings in many "voices" in different genres. His surname is pronounced like the name Joe (with a softer J), Shen is his given name. Please check out his other offerings such as Heavenly Island and Big Fish, also Knock Knock, he's even done some more punk rock things, or rock ballads like Monster. Please go down this rabbit hole! The only comparison to Dimash is that they both are totally unique and so varied in their abilities and able to sing in numerous languages. I've heard native Italians praise his abilities in singing in italian sounding as a native speaker, not to mention Russian, Ukranian, Japanese, etc. etc.

How exciting !!! You have found Zhou Shen. Fantastic. This was from a most tremendous competition called Super Vocal, for Opera and Musical theatre, classically trained voices. Some top notch opera singers and some still at uni and only 18 years old. The head judge, a world class baritone said Zhou Shen has one of the rarest voices in the world. Other Countertenors have a contrived sound, he has a real voice. As others have said he didn't grow and mature normally, so has developed this unique voice. They call him the walking voice tuner as he has perfect pitch. His bel canto training has led to his wonderful singing style, and you will pick that up throughout his songs. He is now huge in China and much loved by many of us in the West. So special. I can't wait for more. Per your recommendation - you must do Ring the Doorbell and Listen to Myself (performance from Singer 2020) and Unravel (Japanese Performance) for more rock-like performances. To really experience his ethereal tone, you must do Big Fish (I recommend the most recent performance from his Time Concert series) and Lang Ting Xu. You do not know how happy you made me today when I saw that you were reacting to Zhou (sounds like Joe) Shen. He is amazing. His voice is one of a kind. He is the sweetest, humblest person. He was bullied a lot growing up due to his size and voice so he lacked confidence in singing. He planned to be a dentist but a professor heard him sing and convinced him to become a singer. He is mainly self-taught - constantly growing. He did study bel canto in Ukraine. He speaks 7 languages and sings many different genres. He is beloved in China and is now one of their biggest singers/stars. His vocal abilities are amazing. I don't think there is anything that he can not sing. You have to see other songs as this performance does not even begin to show his full capabilities. Again - once you see more - you will be blown away. His Chinese songs are beyond beautiful and sings a lot of OSTs for Chinese movies especially historical movies. His voice is instantly recognizable. He is famous for his bel canto and soprano voice and the ethereal quality of his tone. Check out his various performances in the Time Concert Series - Andy, Big Fish, and Humans Are. Zhou Shen recently sang Chinese version of Disney song called "I''m a Star", he singly sang all different voices. He is really amazing!

It’s amazing, right?

Zhou Shen is a very talented, multilingual and versatile singer, his vocal range is huge. His vocal is just like an instrument and his interpretation of different songs is so fluent, full of emotion and mesmerising. Please react to more of his other songs ( mandarin, English or other songs in different languages and different genres) and you would appreciate and be shocked of this gifted vocalist. The song that brought him to fame would be " Big Fish", his latest song would be the song " I'm a STAR" , with him singing 28 characters' voices by himself in the 100th anniversary Disney movie "Wish". Other songs I would recommend are in mandarin but they are so good you shouldn't miss them: "Moonlight", "China in the light", "Dalabengba", "Rose Boy".... There are other English songs like "Time to say goodbye","Golden hour", "The Lonely Goat Herd", "Just like fire", "Think of me" , Monsters... , "Let it go " in 9 languages, Russian song Baby, До свиданияeven and even an Indian song "Zoobi Doobi" . You will be pleasantly surprised !!

I've watched tons of reactions to Zhou Shen, yours is one of the best, thank you )) I would recommend the song that made ZS famous, Big Fish (from Big Fish & Begonia), there's also Delabengba (up tempo on steroids) and Bloody Love Story, to illustrate the dark side of this incredible singer.

When it comes to Zhou Shen, my favorites would have to be Da La Beng Ba and The Song of Heaven Island. They both shows the dynamic of his voice and his talent.

I just discovered Zhou Chen while chasing Dimash all over China on KZread. There are MANY wonderful singers in this show, or contest, called SUPER VOCAL. Please listen to the song BE FREE AND UNAFRAID as sung by Cai Chengyu and A Yun Ga in the same show as MEMORIES was sung by Zhou Chen. It is so beautiful it leaves you breathless. Listen for your own pleasure even if you don't react to it. The repartee between the two of you adds so much to your reactions. ❤❤

Thank you for reacting to this singer. I love his voice. Zhou Shen (sounds like Joe Shun) is one of my favorite singers. His duets are as special as his solo performances. Check out ones like Big Fish with Guo Qin, Upwards to the Moon with Sa Dingding or any duet with Hacken Lee.

He is one of the best singers in china. Absolutely love his voice, very beautiful. You guys should listen to his other songs ❤

Zhou Shen sang part of La Vie En Rose in French. Look up "The Singer" 2000, 周深《有可能的夜晚》. This is a covered song which the name directly translated to 'Possible tonight'

Ahh. I keep revisiting this reaction. Can’t believe it’s been a month already. I hope you react to more. He just did 6 different shows on New Years Eve and performed a total of 14 songs including his new song Floating Lights which is a must listen to. It’s gorgeous. You have not even scratched the surface. He is a chameleon. So many versions of his voice and so much material. He just celebrated is 9th anniversary of his debut. He does a lot of performances and variety shows. He has almost as much material as BTS to react to. Unfortunately not as much of his materials are translated to English. He is featured in a new show Infinity and Beyond which visits Chinese pop music with an ensemble of singers and backstage antics.

Zhou Shen is an extremely talented and hard-working singer. Some people said that his performance was like "God's bounty", but of course it is more than that. If a person wants to break through his own limits, he needs to practice and hone his skills for several years. This song "Memory" should have been sung by him in 2018. At that time, he was still immature and did not have the confidence and proficient skills he has now. If you listen to the two songs he performed with the symphony orchestra at the Nanshan Music Festival in 2021, you will find his progress. Although he sang "A Love Before Time" and "Only For Love" in Chinese, the emotional expression and use of techniques can be intuitively felt from his performance.
