Voice teacher reacts to Dimash singing Ikanaide

Музыка

Everyone was talking about this song, so I decided to check it out for myself. It made me go back in time and look for the younger Dimash 0 fascinating to see how he was then and how he is now.

"Ikanaide" (original japanese version) 🔸was sung very airy by Koji Tamaki (original singer)🔸Dimash, as a tribute, used a lot of air as well - at the same time showing a lot of breath control techniques > fading a note into air and bringing in a different note in the same breath etc. A filmmaker&singer said in his analysis that it`s very likely it was filmed & recorded in one take, so it`s as good for analysis as a stage performance. "Autumn Strong" (chinese version) - different lyrics - expressing resigned melancholy > less airiness. "Ikanaide" - different lyrics, meaning "Don`t go", but an unspoken plea, a whisper > more breath. Both metaphorically written as a separation of people in love - they actually express the pain of separating from one`s name and country - the real story of a chinese actress that was deported to Japan when discovered after WWII to have japanese heritage. The song expresses her pain in separating from her chinese name and China. The soprano part is done by Dimash to represent the woman`s internal cry - hence the unstable, unsteady element of it > to express despair, heartbreak, a literal cry. He uses head shaking many times, for emotional effect and emission, like in the emotional beginning of the song "Adagio". The "SOS" you watched was before this "Autumn Strong", same year, same competition, The Singer 2017. He had already graduated Classical (Bel Canto) in 2014. He had also already studied Contemporary for 3 years at the time of The Singer 2017 competition. What you see is artistic choice, more breath or less breath, choosing head shaking at times, clean / unsteady notes. He serves the story behind the songs, and the message of the lyrics. And many of the songs he sings have important backstories. Text-painting and storytelling is his endeavour as an artist. "Fine brush", like you said. And it is why he chose neoclassical, cross-over, to give voice to the wide palette of human feeling through singing, using the widest array of vocal techniques available.

This is not 2018. "Sinful Passion" was 2018. The "S.O.S." you did was Episode 1 of Singer 2017. This was Episode 4 of the same show, and the first time he had sung a Chinese song to the Chinese audience. "Autumn Strong" was the Chinese version of the original Japanese "Ikanaide". The songwriter said that Dimash's recent version was the best he had heard by a non-Japanese singer.

@@teresaz-l2963 I don't understand what you are trying to convey. Are you asking Linor to react to Ikanaide? As excellent as it is I don't think it is a performance she will enjoy. As she clearly says, she enjoys full voices more. This makes sense in the co text of her being an opera singer. Tokyo Jazz is very breathy for much of the song.

Dimash's professionalism is growing! Dimash continues to develop his abilities! I want to note that Dimash never shows his voice abilities just to show off. All the nuances and all the changes are connected with the dramaturgy of the songs. He is a wonderful actor, he is immersed in this emotional state. Stanislavsky would say - I BELIEVE!

This was at the presentation of his concert in Dubai a little over a month ago. He mixed the two, Chinese and Japanese lyrics of the two versions of the song and it turned out a wonderful performance. Those videos that have been published on KZread so far are fancam(s) and therefore don't have the necessary audio quality to enjoy and even analyze Dimash's voice. He's amazing, he did the three concerts in Dubai, Duseldorf and Prague in less than a month and they were great. Dimash: The One And Only.

Dimash is singing "Autumn Strong", the Chinese Mandarin version of the original Japanese song "Ikanaide". The lyrics for these songs are obviously different but it is actually not a translation of the original. "Autumn Strong" is about loneliness and isolation... one's feelings of being involuntarily separated and distances apart from the one they love. "Ikanaide" is pleading desperately to the lover not to leave but stay together forever. Same melody but different interpretations of the song. At this time, you can only watch him sing "Ikanaide" in the video from Tokyo Jazz Festival. Highly recommended!!!

"Autumn Strong" is a Chinese adaptation of the Japanese song "Ikanaide" DImash has performed both, but his performance of "Ikanaide" for the Tokyo Jazz Festival was performed live but over the internet due to COVID travel restrictions; it was also DImash's first performance sung in Japanese. It was engineered and produced in a very intimate style which is popular in Japan for pure vocal performances.

I cannot imagine a singer is capable of meeting everyone’s expectations in his/her performance. It seems impossible in general. Any performance is personal and depicts the singer’s own feelings and vision of a song. That is the reason why numerous covers of one and the same song are so diverse. Even the same singer can perform a particular song differently in various concerts or settings, which Dimash usually does. For example, not a single version of SOS sounds similar to dozens of other ones he has ever sang in his career.

I love all the dynamics of Dimash - the airy falsettos and the non-airy head voices, the belts and the light mixes, the low vocal fries and even distortions in songs like 'Be with me'. I feel if you are too hardcore into a particular genre you tend to be less open to variety of sounds. But Dimash simply incorporates all the best elements of different genres and presents it tastefully. Because in the end music is all about sounds and not just rules of a particular genre. That's why even though I can't listen to typical Blues genre for long duration, I can listen to artists like John Mayer because he takes the elements of Blues and presents it in a tasteful style rather than following hardcore rules of Blues genre. I cant listen to hardcore Indian Classical because the soundscape is very limited but I love listening to songs by Arijit Singh because he uses the sounds of Indian Classical but adds more dynamics in soundscape and so on with every other genre. Dimash is a monster because he can sing a wide range of genre. I would love to see Dimash try Indian Classical and Hard Rock. I haven't seen him do these genres

Autumn Strong was it’s name in the Chinese version he sang at the I Am Singer comp, 2017. Ikanaide, he sang in Japanese, and it means Don’t Go. It is a studio version, I think for the latest Tokyo Jazz Festival, 2021. The one you found is new to me, so I guess it was in China, as he was there on and off for 3.5 years after the initial Comp, becoming a worldwide talent. Yo could watch the SOS from Dimash Digital Show of 2021, as it is about his best, and the staging….. And for more operatic….AveMaria from New Wave 2021 in Sochi….and Stranger….and Fly Away.

As the others mentioned Ikanaide is a different version in Japanese, but I'm not sure if you will like it as, we do, bc the beginning is almost only breathy, which you seems to not like. For me it brings the parts who he sings with power to hit way deeper! This one is from 2017 again.. Like sos, same show. He was 22 there! We can all agree it's amazing what he could do back then and how he had grown even more the last years, without resting. So you might be more forgiving for the head shake. 😉

What a pleasant surprise that you are back with Dimash that soon 😃. I hope you will continue with that for a while. I'm so glad that you switched those versions. Actually this was also in 2017. You mentioned his head shaking. I think it was because he was very nervous. This was his very first time to sing in Chinese (Mandarin) and he only had one week to learn it. He said he was ancient that the audience wouldn't understand what he was saying. Have you seen his Stranger? You really should. There, he uses all kinds of techniques and registers, and the best belting you'd ever seen. Hope to see you again soon ❤️

He uses a microphone that is far enough away he doesn't need to hold it and far enough away to see his face the whole song and since he isn't holding the mic he can freely use his hands the whole time like he often does. Then you switched to Autumn Strong, performed here on Singer 2017, which is the song translated to CHINESE as it was in CHINA> Ikanaide is the original song in Japanese. 🎶👱‍♀👗👠👠💓

Dimash is the best singer in the WORLD and there are no doubts about that, his voice is a prodigy of nature and a genetic marvel since his parents are two glories of singing from Kazakhstan since he was 5 years old, he sings publicly and has more than twenty years of lyrical training and graduated from the university of music, he is a singer, composer, arranger and multi instrumentalist, he plays more than seven musical instruments and sings in more than Ten(10) languages, he is also a great performer and a great artist who lives and feels music He is not an imitator of voices , Dimash has his own style and is one of the forerunners of the "POPera" he also has a very pleasant, HUMBLE and simple personality, easy access, which makes it very easy to follow, he always travels with His family and friends is a very educated person and an example to follow, he has become known for his musical talent not for getting into trouble or scandals, It has a very wide vocal range of approximately 7 octaves ,he is a singer with a wide vocal range very versatile is Baritone, TENOR , Soprano, counter TENOR, mezasoprano, everything at the same time is how to have 5 singers in one, it has a male and female voice, also many resources such as vibrato, "melismas", falsetto, Staccato, whistle tone, reaching a( D8 )live "Outside of Piano"at the concert of Gakku in an unforgettable day, at his young age he continues to improve and grow musically to perfection, he has a good physical presence he measures 191 cm or 6 "3", he is very famous and recognized in Asia and now he is becoming known In Europe and America, ALL their songs are spectacular, it always goes from low to high, soft to spectacular at the end, in my almost half a century of life I never heard so much quality and it is the hope of continuity of the classical genre because all the old tenors have already Almost all of them died and Dimash can sing like them but none of them can sing like Dimash, being a Man he sings better than any Tenor and his female voice is superior to that of any average Soprano, greetings and a hug from USA 🇺🇸 "Dears" Forever ❤️ Sorry for copying and pasting my informative comment in ALL the Video reactions to Dimash what I see but I do it with the intention of sharing information about him and what I think that in the music industry there are many artists who have been successful and have no talent and are bad people and they do not set a good example for the youth, Dimash and his music deserve to triumph in America, Europe and the whole WORLD, do you want to have already read my comment please come by without problem there is always someone who for the first time knows this information and I won't get tired of sharing it with all my friends"Dear" around the world, thanks for reading and for supporting Dimash 🙏🏻S.O.S. You need to realize. He's giving the song what he feels it needs. Every vocal choice he makes is highly intentional. Whether he retreats sooner or later is all in his own calculation. It's also a lesson to us Dears that we can't always get what we want from him vocally. If he feels it calls for half, he's going to give half. If it calls for whole and longer, he'll give it all. I respect your tastes, but I also respect his methods to.

Hi Linor! So appreciate you are watching Dimash. As you're probably discovered, this one is really Autumn Strong from The Singer. It's the same melody but a different song than Ikanaide with a totally different feel to it. I think you'll enjoy Idanaide! Cheers from a Dear in Maryland.

Give a listen to Ulisse or Ti Amo Cosi. Both are more operatic with Aida Garifullina, the latter also with Lara Fabian. I think you’d like them. Also, War and Peace, I Miss You, and Love of Tired Swans. The Meaning of Eternity is exquisite. I hope you react to Dimash more frequently.

If you were listening to what she said, you should not recommend I Miss you, or the Meaning of Eternity. She doesn't like so much breath on his vocals. Ulisse and Ti Amo Cosi is excellent choices.

The lyrics are not needed since they are NOT the right words. You can't translate everything from one language into a other becaue the meaning is different.

Thank you for your reaction. We have to understand that this is not an operatic song. If he would do this entire song in chest voice it would loose the meaning entirely. He is a master of dynamic. We need this changes to make the song meaningful and not boring.

Autumn...a time when trees shed to the bare minimum. All the good qualities are gone (for now). Dimash knows this hence this almost "dry" yet unassuming tone in his voice. Also the reason why he came out stronger only towards the end almost like wanting to rid himself of whatever is still clinging...and then "dying out" with that last remaining breath that was as expected very short. Thank you for your reaction, dear. ❤
