Yes! Thank you! Exactly. I' was a big disturbed fan back when down with the sickness came out..but the choir nerd in me loves real singing like ths... and a comment said he was sick this nite like the flu and 102 temp.. and I can see subtle shifts in the big notes to compensate...but the official version shows his full ability.. those vibrating bass notes that send chills to that upper register effortlessly and powerfully belting the crescendo of song (I think that's the correct term, but the fireworks after the build up that will lead to a softening backing off to end a musical piece) ..I never knew he had that kinda ability. I never thought a genre bending cover would ever top Johnny cash's nine inch nails cover of 'hurt'.. but vocally, well, the league's arent the same(johnny was emotion and lyrics and music and delivery and deep dark notes unheard of in radio music, and his cover was perfect, emotionally so perfectly worded for his life and loss of his wife as he said his final goodbye to his fans, music, and the world to be reunited with his love.. I cant comprehend that it's a metal cover still, bc that song was made for his delivery of it.. a final bow that I cant name a single example that comes close to competing with... and obviously this isnt a final word for disturbed.. but the cover you never saw coming.. and the dark depth and just emotional connection that makes it hard to remember they didn't write it..that its not their biological creation of a musical offspring.. main stream has so few true examples of true vocal ability, even where it exists, it no longer sells.. the dumbing down of vocal talent ..esp from a man, let alone a rocker who dabbled in sceamo vibes... I hope he writes a ballad that shows this sorta range and ability one day so he can get the credit and respect he deserves for our generation, just vocally.. I bet he was classically trained, or grew up with parents who listened to more opera or something classy vibes.. I could see how down with the sickness's abused and angry letter to an overbearing and abusive mother he was standing up to (literally, he does a spoken rant telling us that much...) .like money, snobby, reputation, perfection demanded maybe made his take piano and voice lessons as a kid ..and his rebellion and hate led his to rock and releasing the demons she caused.. as a rocker, it's obvious he can sing.. but he SANG.. been hiding his full greatness prolly steamed from fear of failure or hatred for conforming to the competitive and misguided greed and societal hierarchy that pretends perfection, judges others as beneth them and often hide such horrible secrets that destroy their children .... obviously this is pure speculation based on what he openly shared in the very beginning of their music and success in disturbed... but I bet hes got classical training as a child.. it would tie together his rock ability with the vocal ability he just showed effortlessly here. Sorry , i am just floored I didn't know he did this cover bc this is the kinda song I'll have on my permanent playlist ,bc it hits everything music should. The message, the emotion, the ability, and my personal niche in music favorites.. the curveballs of the unexpected (sometimes it the vocals, or the lyrical brilliance, the ability to suck in the sound/voice but say something so well,so neccessary, so real that it transcends into talent .. and his rocker show never bothered showing us hes not just good , hes damn good. He could succeed anywhere he chose vocally.. Broadway, opera, choral, mainstream, rock actually downplays it and that' itself is crazy. Since rock is the only genre thats popular and has men who sing and play instruments and write their songs still... 😂😂❤

You won’t hear me complaining because honestly I’ve got a life and that 10 seconds isn’t going to affect the rest of my day. That means that their perspective will be different from yours, but good on you if you don't feel it necessary to complain about groping during crowd surfing. What's interesting is that you *do* feel it necessary to comment on what other people should complain about. @@reyrey9458 "it’s hard to see where your grabbing/pushing the crowd surfer".The following might be surprising for someone like you, but women have a working brain that lets them know grabbing from groping, they do very well without your guidance. And if she felt that these touchings (those SHE felt, not you in YOUR experience) were normal human reactions according to the situation (which is your case), she wouldn't even complain. That means you're are NOT actually getting groped man (lol), you're just being pushed and grabbed, ocationally in private parts of course, as normally as it can be in a gig context, that isn't getting groped. I don't wanna describe what it means to be genuinely getting gropped and harassed in a gig, but man, if you knew... you wouldn't be saying such stupid things. What you're missing here is empathy, something that helps you understand "hmm,, I'm a man and she's not, our situations are different, that might mean that the way people grab her might be different than how they grab me", man it's something so basic and easy to deduce that it's almost embarrassing to have to explain it. That being said, I use to go to gigs too, and the chances that you as a man get *genuinely* groped at one, are vey low, but if you actaully get groped (again, genuinely groped), 99.9% chances it was a man, not a woman. And if you were honest to yourself, you would say the same.

This song was about the lack of communication when TV became popular, (and the people bowed down and prayed to the neon God they made). When David sent it to Paul Simon, he was very nervous. Paul Simon emailed to Draiman: “Really powerful performance on Conan the other day.” Since, he has said it is his favorite cover of the song. With his control, chest voice, head voice, face voice, Draiman has had a vocal coach for decades and said in an interview that he could not have sung this song 20 years ago. He wouldn’t have known how. If it moved you, it is art; and, Draiman is an artist 🙏🏻🥰 Yay for vocal coaching making this cover possible!

You're definitely not crazy thinking the 2nd verse has a country feel. I think each verse nods at a different musical genre. Folk in 1, with just the piano, country in 2 as the guitar & strings join, opera in 3 as the rest of the orchestra start to play and David opens up on the vowels and really starts adding power, and metal in 4 as the strings get more complex and the timpani reverberates like a battle drum, while we hear that gravelly rage in the vocals. If you've seen the official video you'll know how important music is portrayed as being for its own sake. It's literally a stunning arrangement of an already beautiful song, leaving listeners speechless and covered in goosebumps.

Straight up the best cover ever made of a song. For me that has been a fan of Disturbed since 2008 with Indestructible, it was the first song since Darkness from Believe of 2002, that really took this kind of acoustic approach, and showed David's incredible range in a more calm way. Don't feel a traitor, Paul Simon likes it too. "In April 2016, Paul Simon endorsed the cover. Additionally, on April 1, Simon sent Draiman an email praising Disturbed's performance of the rendition on American talk show Conan. Simon wrote, "Really powerful performance on Conan the other day. First time I'd seen you do it live. Nice. Thanks." Draiman responded, "Mr. Simon, I am honored beyond words. We only hoped to pay homage and honor to the brilliance of one of the greatest songwriters of all time. Your compliment means the world to me/us and we are eternally grateful."" [Wikipedia]

So, David is an absolutely underrated singer. Yes, his band has been in the metal genre for decades. However, he has an incredible range and vibrato. Early in his life he had surgery on his vocal cords. Also, like others here have said, during this performance, David had the flu. Unbelievable performance even with the slight auto tune. I personally prefer the studio version to this live performance, but that’s just me.

David draiman studied for years to be a cantor, so he didn’t just open his mouth a d gold came out. He worked hard. He’s a really intelligent and very well-rounded musician/vocalist. Well, I was a teen when Simon and Garfunkel came out with this song. And I’ve thought it couldn’t get better. I first heard this version a few years ago, and was gobsmacked! His range, his power, his vocal abilities! And the drums - ooh my goodness! I read once a comment that S&G’s version was a foreseeing or forewarning. More of a gentle warning. While Disturbed’s version is the actual here and now. In all its rawness! The video is also very powerful and is worth checking out. I’m glad you went for it. Dimash is another extremely talented vocalists. But because he has no specific genre, people are reluctant to listen to him. And when they do, they kick themselves for not getting on the Dimash train years ago! If you haven’t heard him, I would suggest starting with SOS, going to the middle with Stranger, and then watching his newest When I’ve Got You. He was only 20 when he was “discovered” by the Chinese The Singer, and will be turning 30 in May.
